Is it just me or does the fact that Enji and Touya were once close make the neglect and abuse more tragic since Touya actually knew Endeavor when he was a good dad before he let his obsession poison every aspect of his (and by extension his family's) life?
He was the golden child. The entire point of his existence was to succeed his father, and at the first sign of weakness, he was immediately shelved. He had some attention due to his 2nd and 3rd siblings being born with the wrong quirk, but as soon as Shota was born and his quirk showed itself, he was then completely discarded. Any attempts at getting his father's attention back were scolded at and then they tried to force him to be a normal kid, after making it clear his father had no love/ time for normality.
Touya was just a kid who wanted his dad's love and attention. As an adult... he'll just settle for attention as he burns his father's world down.
Endeavour projecting his ambitions on touya was also abuse, endeavour was never good father.
@@yldzyldz790 Agreed, but it got worse when he got blinded by his obsession. Toya was the first one to pay for it and then the rest of the family suffered the same fate. Rei was sent to the mental hospital, Fuyumi and Natsuo were neglected and Shoto was robbed of his childhood and left traumatized. So Endeavour is rated 1000/10 for worst father of the year.
To be fair, I wouldn’t say he was ever a “good dad.” He treated Touya as a trainee, not as a son. Still, I think they could’ve definitely healed their relationship if Endeavor realized how awful his parenting was before the situation with Touya’s quirk.

This... just hits. Like, especially at the very end when he prepared to set himself on fire, I felt that. The expressions & body language is so raw and deliberate, it's awesome. So many feels.

Isn't it hurtful that a child had to yearn for his parent's love and had to feel envious for his brother underwent an abuse? He was so influenced by his pure child love towards his parent and wishes to please his father's ambition that when his father abandoned him away he couldn't help but started asking the reason why he even lived! It's really breaking my heart, Touya's backstory can't be more heartbreaking (which I'm sure I'll be proved wrong when the manga will explore more what was really happened at him after that fire in the forest). You really captured that heart-breaking feeling and this song choice was perfect! Well done!!
I don't think Toya/Dabi was jealous of Shoto. He was just hurt after he was tossed aside by his father after having Shoto. And his anger grew more when Endeavor starts to abused his family.
He was mad at Endeavor but he wasn't jealous of Shoto thoughhh....he didn't say or did he?
@@CorcihVerschav I agree with you. Actually, in the official releases, I do not recall he ever said he was jealous of Shouto either. But, so many people jumped on conclusion already and deemed him as only a jealous kid just because from Endeavor's pov we haven't seen him being 'abused' yet while we already know that Endeavor did abused his whole family whether physically or mentally (child neglect and child discrimination are forms of child abuse too). Personally speaking, I also think why would he ever be jealous of Shouto? Why would he have ever been jealous of his brother who was (especially mentally and physically) abused? It would be SO tragic. The point of my previous comment was even if he was ever feel envy towards Shouto, it would be VERY fine because it was only normal that a child craving for their parent's love, it is supposed to be the parent that love their child unconditionally, not just wanting them to fulfill their ambition/goal/whatsoever.

Ho-lee shit. I've seen a lot of Dabi-Touya animatics but this one takes the goddamn cake. Your style, your depiction of Touya's backstory, the song's lyrics and fast pace tying it all together, the flashes from Dabi to Touya throughout, I love it. I'm particularly weak for the transition at 1:12. Also, the final panels, where Touya's attempting to set himself on fire, I-that hit me, it made me fucking *feel*. Dude, you're a talent. Props to you.

As someone who relates to Dabi's character on a visceral, horrible level, (I mean murder is wrong but if it was dear old dad-) this is incredible. The body-language, the pacing, the art! It made me cry a bit, thank you

This style of Dabi is also now my favourite. The animation was smooth and you managed to capture emotion extremely well, especially the two types of anger Dabi expressed when he looked at the big screen and first saw his father then his brother and in the end, Endeavour's horror. My favourite times was at 2:07 and 3:29, especially the latter where Touya transformed into Dabi.
I also love how you captured Touya's slow spiral into madness and just why he snapped. Also Endeavour's own spiral into his obsession to beat all might.
Agh, there's not enough words or time to explain this masterpiece. Very well done.

Agreed...this was a really good animation. I don’t know much specifics as I’m not much of an animator but I did feel the emotions. I felt they were captured really well in this. I’m surprised it’s not everywhere yet. This was in my recommendation so I’m glad a saw it:)
This needs to blow up with how amazing it is and how it is canon. Like don’t get me wrong I love the idea of Touya being a good brother but with him hating Shoto it makes so much sense. The drawing skills are amazing! I can’t stop wondering how you do it.

This is one of the more accurate ones because a lot of people portray Touya as the big brother who protected Shoto from Endeavor and loves him very much when really Touya resents his younger brother for stealing his Dad’s love away from him. Really great job btw! 🙃
The difference between those two scowls really sells it for me- rage and hatred in the first, jealousy and despair in the other. He may want to hurt both his father and his replacement, but for different reasons.

I think Touya's story is very sad, imagine what he had to go through to question why he was born? This is too sad, I think we will have several flashbacks but counted from the point of view of the Todoroki brothers other than Touya himself, I think it would be interesting to see Natsuo's point of view
I originally wasn’t going to click this video and ignored it in my recommended twice, thinking it wasn’t going to be good and going about my day. To think I almost made the biggest mistake of my life by ignoring it again, because this is fucking amazing and the music is also fucking fantastic, omfg. Good work, man.
Holy crap.. I could literally hear Touya's scream at the end, literal chills. This is literally one of the BEST Dabi animatics I've ever come across. (And that's saying something considering I've seen almost everyone on CZcams.) You're style, the animation, the emotions you portrayed on Dabi, all of it is absolutely beautiful. You're such an underrated artist and I really hope more people see this because DAMN does it deserve more attention! I'm definitely subscribing, I can't wait to see more animatics from you in the future!
Dabi doesn't look like a villian in this aspect and I love how you focused on the backstory and what happened BEFORE he ran away instead of during or after it makes this so much more special ❤

I listen to a very wide range of music and recently fell in love with this song and then the manga reveal happened and it was just a perfect coincidence :)

I'm a simple person. I see something underrated, I like it, I subscribe and turn on notifications, and I watch it a dozen more times after leaving a comment for a beautiful artist.

This is absolutely great. As much as I love other Dabi animatics that try to paint Dabi as regretful of what he does and not resentful toward Shoto, they just don't feel right when I'm trying to think of what Dabi's mindset is. This showed how he fell into madness. Not running away because of physical abuse and no love toward Shoto. Dabi hates Shoto. And the body language he had, starting so happy and upbeat, slowly becoming less happy, more slouched, his facial expressions less and less, it's great. And the moments before Touya set himself on fire *chef's kiss*. I could really feel his pain and hear his scream of pain and sorrow. He felt useless. I love how it showed that when he saw how happy his father was to see a baby Shoto, a half and half child, it literally shows how insane this makes Touya, how upset, how scared. Shoto, in Touya's mind, literally took away any chance at ever becoming what Endeavor wanted out of him, and that crushed him, which drove him to do what he did. So does this deserve more attention? Yes. Is the underrated? Yes. Do I love it? Yes. Have a great day you great human being :)
I love how this really shows that at an earliy age. When Touya was young and before he hade any siblings. How much he wanted to please his dad. And then the part we get in the futrue and we see his angry.
the transformashion at 3:24 is awesome! and it fits with the song. I would have loved seeing this colored since I think it would of made it cooler. But other then that is everything perfect.
The two dislikes are from Enji and the "can't you see?!" kid.
I wanted to do a funny but i also want to praise this because god Damn its so good so here we go. GOD IM IN LOVE WITH THIS. The way you took Touya's story and expressed it through his perspective, the way you expressed his emotions, the way its scratchy and rough but that fits so god damn well with Touya's story. The part where he set himself on fire, the pure anguish coming from him was palpable. The hair dye coming off and the horror on Shoto's face and the regret and shock on Enji's is amazing. God, and the transitions. The way you showed his relationship with Enji transforming. His relationship with his siblings. The way he reacted to each of his brother's births. Him seeing the news broadcasts and the rage and jealousy at Shoto and the hatred at Enji. The way shotos birth affects not only touya but Natsuo too. The footsteps at the beginning and end tying it all together. Even the song choice created this environment of sadness and hope and betrayal and story that just fits. It feels like youre watching his whole life unfold, seeing every defining moment in his life, and its so amazing to watch his transformation from Touya to Dabi. Just. Everything. Every little thing. It works so well. Amazing.

This is gorgeous. Half of the villains in my hero academia aren’t even villains. They are victims of trauma which heroes didn’t help them with. Heck Davi is the way he is solemnly because of Endeavour and nothing else. The way you captured it is incredible, I rewatched it 10 times and nearly cried every time. Thank you for making this ❤️

You are underrated as hell
Touya didn't deserve anything that happened to him, the pain he must have been through both physical and mental is horrible. I hope we see his story from his perspective eventually and I want him to have a redemption of sorts but its unlikely.
I don't really think he's gonna get a redemption arc, but it's for a good reason. Like if he just stays insane and dies with that same resentment for Endeavor and Shoto, it's an excellent example of what's gonna happen to a kid if they're abused, neglected or have expectations set way too high. Like, if he stays crazy, it'll speak more about the real world so, my guess is no redemption. But I agree, I wish he would be redeemed but Idk if he even wants to be at this point

I'm... in absolute tears. Never before has an animatic made me feel this strongly. You dont rely on the lyrics to drive the story. Instead you rely on the story to drive the lyrics and gosh damn with the smoothness of the transitions???? im...wow
Has anyone else commented on how well this animatic has managed to capture Dabi's sass in spite of how heavy it is because I got to say, I appreciate that a lot.
this was amazing, I always feel for both Dabi and Shigaraki, they weren't truly evil...just broken. sometimes you live with monsters long enough that you become one and start to resent anyone who's happier than you
This actually got me to listen to this song and I've been replaying it ever since. So beautifully animated, and the song is unbelievably accurate to what I imagined Touya feeling. "But I never really had it in me, did I?" just such a powerful line for how desperate he felt, and how worthless he thought he was because he wasn't built for what his father wanted.
THIS IS INCREDIBLE- IT HAS TO BE JUST ABOUT THE MOST HEARTBREAKING ANIMATIC I’VE EVER SEEN! It seems like you whipped this put so fast after the chapter but it’s still so well made- the expressions, the animation, and the story are all just beautiful. Like the way you build up the relationship between Touya and Endeavor and his heartbreak at being abandoned just hits so hard... an added bonus is that this fits like all of my headcanons, particularly that his ‘death’ was intentional because the signs were there and it was never explicitly stated that it was an accident. Anyways. I will be saving this and rewatching it religiously. Thank you so much for pouring your talent into such an incredible work of art.

I- I have no words. This is absolutely amazing. The way that everything from how Endeavor would have been a good dad at a young age to the kind he is now, and how Dabi slowly just went mad in a way, is absolutely amazing. I have literal tears right now.
Ok, on top of the perfect song choice, on top of the smooth as butter animation, on top of the perfectly drawn facial expressions, can we talk about how well they aged Dabi? I have no clue how they did it but teenage Dabi looked exactly like grown up Dabi 20/10
we never got a better explanation on his backstory but you really made it perfect! I think thats exactly how it happened! your work is amazing and in my eyes its the most canon thing ever thank you so much for this masterpiece its sadly very underrated but I really hope that changes!! (I literally can't stop watching it on repeat)
I know I'm extremely late but here is thr back story for touya to Dabi:Enji was training touya to be #1 and to beat all might because his flames are hotter and stronger that Enji. When Rei was pregnant with Shoto Enji finally notice that his flames was hurting him and stop training him tell him to go be an ordinary kid. Touya was already spiraling down a mental instability due to his reaining,bad parenting from both and not really getting along with his siblings ( not on the sister part because she tried). So when shoto was born touya tried to kill hik because of jealousy. Fast foward to 4 years or so and touya was secretly training his quirk which was against Enji wishes because it was hurting him and ask Enji to meet up at his secret training ground to show him his process that he made on his own. Enji didn't show up and touya upset by this let his quirk go out of control burning himself to the point where his body has som irreversible damage. After everything all for one doctor found him patched him up and that's how we became the dabi we know. There is a lot of information and small parts I skipped over but this this is the main gist of it.
Now that these chapters have finally been animated, I find myself once again coming back to this animatic. The very first time I watched it, having just read the chapters of the manga, it was incredibly emotional for me. The combination of the melody of the song and it’s powerful lyrics paired with the breathtaking animations brought tears to my eyes. Now that I am watching again 2 years later, I feel the exact same emotions. This has got to be one of the most beautiful and powerful animatics I have ever seen. The way the artist conveys the emotions of Dabi/Touya and his whole story through their animations is simply awe inspiring. I hope to enjoy watching this incredible animation for many years to come! ❤❤❤

I love how you represented the love of young Touya towards his dad, that later becomes hate towards Hero Endeavor and Little Shoute, whose only crime was existing. And Endeavor? I adore how he is a good dad until he isn't, until he wants more and more power and how Touya and his siblings are affected by that. Endeavor is a controversial subject and you represented it here perfectly!
Oh, and the animation is sooo smooth and I looooved the part of Dabi smile at 2:06 in comparison of those when he was little Touya... heartbreaking.

I loved the way you captured the emotions that Touya feels, both in his backstory and his motivation as a villain. He really does just want to be seen and acknowledged, and it really sucks because a lot of this could have been circumvented if the family had just communicated more.
I absolutely LOVE the facial expressions in this. Touya's emotions are displayed so perfectly.

OKAY I KNOW I JUST COMMENTED ALREADY B UT. I actually saw this the first time last week and I JUST. It's soooooo good!! but I just wanted to point out some specifics! the scene transitions and movement and stuff I'd wax poetry about if i had the energy and also was a poet, they're amazing! and just also wanted to point out I love how you drew the specific character with such defining facial structures and eyes and builds. I love how you portrayed them. all of the characters, but a good example is how squishy and energetic you drew him small (bonus points for that scene where he notices his hair changing and his little dismissive gesture at it, I rlly liked that) then his gangly, pointy, kind of long, teenagerness was GREAT, and then the way you drew Dabi! it's all just really great..

And!! I don't even have words for the Touya-Dabi and Dabi-Touya transition scenes. ESPECIALLY the end , I just-!! like the eyes and moving lines in the hair showing his color hair changing and just! everything! sorry if this is a little incoherent lol you're work is just so great and has a lot of great thought put into it
