PROGRAM NOTES
Crossroads (2019) is a marimba and cajón duo composed for award winning percussionist, Bryce Turner. At times, the cajón player is asked to simultaneously play deskbells with feet.
The piece is an intersection of rhythmic complexity and melodic simplicity. Throughout the piece, the two players share complex unison rhythms, requiring focused attention to groove and time. This is underscored by the addition of simple melodic figures, adding another element for the players to navigate. The goal is to create a blitz of tight rhythms and grooves while also bringing clarity to the simple, often times singable, melodic ideas. This juxtaposition makes Crossroads one of the most technically and musically demanding pieces I’ve written.
Coincidentally, Bryce and I were both born in the small Texas town of Victoria, known as “The Crossroads” of South Texas.

Another unmistakable Ivan magic marimba miracle moment! Love this performance. I never tire of his music!
Ivan is seriously the coolest.
Just got to perform with this man, gotta say, he is seriously cool. Thanks for the experience! From AJB
That bells melody is almost exactly the same as the one at C in Shared Space
Way to go Bryce! Great piece Ivan!
Yet another great piece by Ivan Trevino! I love your compositions. Can't wait for more in the future
This is too sick, Ivan!
Amazing groove!
This is awesome! Definitely on my list of music to learn!
I’m playing one of your solos for school and I just wanted to say that it is super cool

I so want to play this.
Bryce!
He teaches at my high school as of 2ish years ago :) I got to chop out with him in our pit warm ups. Reckon he’s taught at your school before?
Also, Frank!
@@nicolasibanez3191 Hey, what’s up dude!
I was taught by him for a bit because he was one of the pit techs for Violet Crown 2020
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Absolutely fantastic! What kind of mallets are being used?
What are those bells called?
Correct me if I'm wrong but i believe they are the Chomanotes Desk Bells.
You’d be great at writing movie soundtracks
what time signature is this in?
All of them.
A lot of it is 4/4 but the syncopation can make it sound out of meter
