TEVI is the long-awaited spiritual successor to Rabi-Ribi, made by the same guys.
Rabi-Ribi was really cool because it's a metroidvania that combined 2D action-platforming with bullet hell dodging, and really pushed what was possible with bullet hell boss fights in this format, making for some of the most crazed and impressive boss fights I've ever seen. But don't just take my word for it and see for yourself (spoiler warning): • Rabi-Ribi: Forgotten M...
Only two bosses in this demo though unfortunately, but you can fight buffed versions of them afterwards. These then get buffed a second time after beaten, which is where most of the interest lies. I did the normal and hardest versions for this video, the other version is like barely any different from the harder version and feels superfluous for this video.
The old Rabi-Ribi demo had like five bosses, so hopefully the ratio between boss and stage is better in the full game. Rabi Ribi gave you a boss like every 30 minutes.
TEVI so far seems like it basically takes Rabi-Ribi but improves on it and pushes it up a notch, giving you a far more diverse set of abilities with crazier challenges that accompany it.
Probably one of the biggest differences so far is that you get a lot less options to induce i-frames (though the trailer seems to show off a few more), which makes these bosses at least a lot harder.
In terms of story this game is a lot more serious and dark, which is a whiplash after Rabi-Ribi and might not gel with everyone.
One aspect that made the bosses pretty unique in Rabi-Ribi is the combo system, where you do more damage the more hits you chain. This damage boost could go up to +75%, so maintaining your chain was quite important to keep doing optimal damage, especially on higher difficulties.
TEVI steps this up a notch by making certain powerful moves and abilities only available at high combo ranks, making it even more essential.
The Malphage boss victory runs ended up being super boring because I just got all the super easy attacks. :(
Pattern difficulty balance is definitely a bit wack on this boss. It randomly chooses an attack from a pool of six attacks and three are hard-ish, two are literally free and one is impossible.
This demo is currently only available for select content creators, but anyone can apply until the 16th for a key to the playtest period that starts on the 21st.

I swear this boss has the attack shown in the thumbnail.
I legitimately have never been more hyped for a game before.
Rabi-Rabi was quite possibly the best game I have ever played.I know it’s common to exaggerate things on the internet- which is why I try to refrain from saying things like "This is the best ever X!!", but I *legit* believe, it might just be, my personal #1 favorite game ever created.
Thank you Jaimers from bringing more exposure to it’s spiritual successor- I admittedly didn’t watch too much in order to not spoil myself, but I have no doubts you aced it as always.
Omg it's Flariz!
Rabi Ribi is also my favourite game by a massive margin. I didn't think anything would ever top it until, well, GemaYue makes another game!
The best Rabi-Ribi player is here! Hope to see you play Tevi when it comes out.
Yeah, Rabi Ribi is easily one of my fave ganes ever too, the gameplay is an absolute masterclass in boss fights and the structure of the world and progression is the most versitile I've ever seen in a metroidvania being able to progress in so many differnt ways, being perfect for achievement hunters and challenge runs, and even rewardinf sequence breaks.
Rabi Ribi is a one of a kind gem of a game, and thankfully it's going to be two of a kind once Tevi releases fully!
igual mi juego favorito
2:56 bullying
The Rabi Ribi tubers awakening from their slumber and already destroying bosses 💀. With how more in depth the combat system is, I feel like this game is going to be harder than Rabi Ribi.
"...Where you do more damage the more hits you chain...", just like in Distorted Travesty 1, huh. Also, the playable character's moves are similar to Sword Kirby's.
A man of culture I see.
I had no idea there was a demo. Gonna sign up for the playtest and hope I get in!
Years of doing I Want To Be-style games gonna pay off
Also, still need to fully complete Rabi-Ribi, so thank you for the reminder xD
I love Rabi Ribi!!! I might try this too
Vena = Cocoa with a gun
The game is out, waiting for you to play it!
That's is a very interesting game.
Yeah, I'm not sure I'm gonna be into the plot. My least favorite part of Rabi-Ribi's plot was a certain revelation near the end that has waaay too dark implications given the rest of the game's tone. If this is consistently dark, and the story is interesting enough, I won't mind, but I still think the character design and art, especially the pixel art chibis are gonna clash with the tone really hard. I also hope they don't kill off a lot of major characters, because that would be the worst.
That's a whatever personal gripe though. I'm mostly really excited for Tevi. I don't think the gameplay could possibly let me down. Thanks for reminding me about the game, Jaimers.
Yesss finally more rabi-ribi esque game! Somehow I feel like the music is a lot less excited this time... I hope they turn it up a notch in the final release. Rabi-ribi's music was earlier windows touhou levels of catchy... actually I hope this doesn't go the same way as touhou where the newer games' soundtrack just doesn't click for me and I'll never feel the magic again
this game has some hotline miami kind of music in it outside of bosses (in the demo)
The art is way better but the boss attacks don't look as thoughtful or intense as Rabi-Ribi's. Hmm... Hopefully the game turns out better than I expect~
So how does it feel compared to Rabi-ribi for now? (asking since I can't play for a couple of days)
Very similar but also very different, I'd say the biggest difference is you having way more melee abilities to constantly juggle.
Yo can I get the build you're using for Malphage. They're giving me a real headace in expert mode and those bombs look like there working wonders.
NVM I just used every bomb charm I had, and after a few tries I got it. Thanks for the idea.
Jaimers can you do all bosses in Rabi Ribi no hit?
Wait you can just slide under the Malphage zigzag attack?
this looks okay as a spiritual successor but i'd love a real rabi-ribi 2
This game looks interesting!
You should definitely give Rabi Ribi a Try. It's possibily one of the best action game ever made.
Don't let the "metroidvania" tag scare into thinking it will be slow, you can get straight into the action if you really want to, and most importantly you won't be wasting time wondering where to go as there's a boss in every single area and you can go in any order you want, you can get straight into the action in less than 2 minutes specially on the highest difficulty.
Sus
hopefully its easier than rabi ribi.
What are you talking about. Rabi-Ribi had like 6 difficulty settings. Are you saying the easiest difficulty was still too hard?
Why? Should people who enjoy challenging themselves not have games for them? These games are designed with a hardcore dedicated audience in mind.
If they're too hard for you then that's what all the variety of difficulty modes are for, just play on one of the lower ones, on it's lowest settings of Casual Bunny Heaven the game becomes an absolute sleepwalk, and it's got like 6 main difficulty modes with like 4 or so modifers and countless ways to play it.
Looks cool, hopefully it doesn't have the weird creepy stuff that Rabi did. Dropped that one very early in because of all the creeper stuff...
you missed out on a great game, one thing you can do is to play in speedrun mode, that hides/skips all the cutscenes, CGs, dialogue and portraits of the characters automatically.
well, I have bad news 4 u lol
