This is the sweetest SUV on the market right now.
BTW it does recognize your foot waving underneath it instantly. It has 'n few seconds delay so that you can step back and not get hit in the face by the tailgate.
But if you buy polestar software car becomes a race car. Trust me. I have 2010 XC90 and stil 3.0 tdi audi q7 cant beat me. :D

Oh man , why not review the inscription.... With the B&W sound system and beautiful wood trim, it is one of the best looking interior on the market.
The car he was reviewing, the Momentum it seems, didn't have it.
And Carbuyer never seem to get the top of the range models IMO

I have been waiting for this car to be reviewed by you guys for ages. I think this is one of the few cars that could touch the range rover in terms of its luxurious. This is just the best family car to be released this year.
You seem to have done the only review that shows how to use the seats etc! Excellent review as usual, love this car...... will order it as my new lease car

finally! ty, i´ve been waiting so hard for the rewiev of this new volvo. I would really appreciate a review of the hybrid version, which has the highest trim level and must give (i think) a totally different driving feeling, performance and fuel efficiency.
Matt, so how good is the standard leaf spring suspension? Is it good enough to not warrant the extra cost of the air springs?

it's a handsome car. hope the new xc60 looks like a smaller version of this when it comes out. I don't really need a 7 seater. but I'm in love with this car.

It's a nice car! Volvo have really improved their image in the last few years IMO. Though if I was in the market for s car this size I'd get a Range Rover Sport. My dad has one and it's an amazing car, very capable indeed. It's also extremely quiet, comfortable and surprisingly good on fuel!
It's amazing how the XC90 had one of the most dated interiors on the market, but now has one of the most modern

The sensor to wave your foot under is more to the left than the center. It's nice to see a "cheaper" trim level for a change and a D5. Until now most of the reviews were those of T6 Inscriptions.
i would liked more if you tested xc90 with its full equipment so we can see all the luxury inside, but it doesn't matter because it is still the best
Polestar upgrade and box in sport mode im sure will cure some lag problems

I was waiting for this review. too bad it wasn't the T8 inscription though.
Many are confused now when Volvo is owned by a Chinese company, some think that Volvos are built in china and stuff. But really, this Chinese company helps Volvo make fully Swedish cars, with no Ford parts. The other cars Volvo build now have Ford platforms, that's about to change, soon they will replace the V70/S80 with their Scalable Product Platform they recently designed.
***** I bet the Chinese made Volvos are good to, Volvo have to train them and use the same materials so in the end it's gonna be fine i guess, the Chinese wont mind atleast and thats the main target, the Americans are a different story.

Volvo will import Chinese built cars into America, something that hasn't been done before.

Really like this car, a real nice, classy alternative to the X5 or Mercedes ML. I think some buyers may even move from their previous gen Range Rover to one of these

I come from a family where German cars are king, we've had a lot of Mercs over the years including a 64 reg ML but I would have one of these XC90s over an ML, Q7 or X5 any day of the week.

I don't know why but I really like SUVs, especially this one. Because some of these are just really practical, something you won't hear in many sports cars. Don't get me wrong, I love supercars, hypercars, muscle cars. But they should stay in the virtual world for me. Also, before this review I had a goal of buying the Land Rover Evoque (or something like that, I forgot the name :/) but now it got blown away by this XC90! Good job Volvo!
You could just put the parcel shelf in the "secret storage" section in the boot

This is just tank or panzer. It is a compliment who needs such a vehicle. If I have such a big family, a Ford galaxy would be a very sporty car.

Foot waving is slow because you're doing it wrong... how about learning before complaining. The sensor is just under the left exhaust tip and your foot should be led forward/backwords, not to the sides. Thank you.
this version has an amazing little diesel engine which delivers terrific performance.

A bit uninspiring for car enthusiasts perhaps, but a very good premium people-hauler overall, packaging and interior being the strongest points. To me, this is much more successful generation change that Audi Q7.
Amazing car
Hired this car, and was quite impressed, however in the corners your body moves with car, which was not very comfortable. The set-up was not very stiff

An excellent family SUV in terms of design and performance.
I have a burning question. How does the 4wd on the the T8 work? Is there always 4wd all the time? Are the front wheels powered by the 2 liter upfront and the rear wheels powered by the 80hp electric motor in the rear? What happens when the electric motor runs out of charge? My understanding is that there is no mechanical linkage between the front and rear. So i am not clear on what happens when the electric motor runs out of charge
Ralph It never runs out completely, theres always electric for the AWD which is electrical.

I really like the XC90 as I could try it out already.
Funny thing is, how people still complain about certain features and compare it to BMW, Mercedes etc. saying 'German' brands are still superior.
I just don't understand it, because it simply is not true.
I mean, I am German myself, but how can one be this stubborn?
For example I've seen a test where the safety systems of certain brands were tested.
Despite being compared to the newest cars from BMW, Mercedes, VW and Renault, the new Volvo XC90 was the only(!) car that managed to warn of an obstacle in front AND break in time to avoid a collision. The other cars as well saw the obstacle but could not avoid a collision.
Grow out of your brand fetishism people...

why do you only review base model volvos and other cars with a bunch of upgrades, this really makes it hard to pick between cars.. please review cars that are representable in the real world

Maybe it's just because I'm a slight technophobe but I really don't like that huge touch screen in the middle of the dash.
I would worry about people being distracted by it.

If Ford had patented that foot wave to unlock the trunk feature, they would be rolling in money. Look how many companies copied them on that. Then the automatic rear folding seats with a push of a button that first appeared on the 2004 expedition, another they should have patented

Shame you only get 3 engines, in portugal we have a great D4 AWD with 190HP and its arround 22 thousand euros cheaper than the D5. =D
Lets be honest. You don't buy this to charge around. You loft in it, and you can be positively sure that your family is safe in one of these.

i find the interior very nice but i think the outside is a bit on the weird side
It's typical Volvo affair. Super comfortable, safe but IMO a bit boring on the outside.
There is an hybrid coming up with 400 HP
So review that one when iT comes out Now you're just being negative about acceleration
