      Shari B Brazilians are diverse so that's not really saying anything. Most Brazilians are mixed or black.

      It doesn't matter what most Brazilians consider themselves, and most do not consider themselves white. Brazil has the largest African population outside of Africa, in the world.

      She looks Brazilian, in a way foreigners think Brazilian girls look. Like the models Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bundchen or Izabel Goulart for example (which is not the "typical" look for most Brazilian girls I think).
      But yes, she does look South European or Mediterranean. I'm Greek and I can confirm that. :)

      joanna_k you can't "look" Brazilian lol. Brazil was created like the United States so the populations are exactly the same

      Cameron Enoch I didn't say that at all. I said she looks like some famous Brazilian models that a lot of people consider "the female Brazilian look". I know a lot of different looking Brazilians, so I don't think there is a certain representative look for all Brazilians (in my mind most Brazilians look either mostly black or mixed, and some are whites, but I live in Europe so I don't say I'm right).

    I believe that one reason for why the results are so vague is because countries used to have different borders and of course intermingled with each other as each empire took over. For example, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India used to be all one "country". However, now you can see how different their blood is due to them being separated by borders and mixing with other people. I do believe though that ancestry.com/scientists can get more accurate. They just don't want to tell us.

    Ancestry's categories are imprecise. Great Britain does not cover all of Great Britain, it's mostly from eastern England. There is no category for Wales, and being Celtic, Welsh ancestry generally shows up as Irish. So some at least of what they have told you is Irish ancestry is quite possibly Welsh.

    The "Irish" component in Ancestry is probably an older/broader NW European component, it peaks in modern Irish population but most British populations have a good chunk of it as well.
    you can see this on AncestryDNA blogpost here:
    blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2015/03/16/what-does-our-dna-tell-us-about-being-irish/
    So 24% Irish might also come from partial English/Welsh ancestry (mixed with partial irish ancestry) etc.

  • @LovingSoul61
    @LovingSoul61 Před 7 lety +1

    Nationality when it comes to DNA means very little. It's more important to try to trace the history of your ancestors. This is where it gets even more complicated because history is often one sided because the side that wins the war writes down what happened, who was there and why and all that.

    I don't know if anyone has pointed this out and by no means am I an expert but we receive 50/50 of our dna from each parent. While native american didn't show up in your match, it could come up in a sibling. Basically, the 50% you get from your mom might not be the same 50% given to a sibling meaning that no two relatives would be identical ..outside of identical twins I think. The potential to get certain traits are based in that ( light eyes, dark skin, curly hair, I think the chances of certain traits pop up if both parents share them.
    Thoughts in Randomness: I am not sure if these companies can break down percentage wise what equals a person. Meaning if you are 2% random ethnic group how many ancestors does that equate to? Thoughts to ponder for another day.

I havent checked it since because it keeps updating results. And i got something weird im hoping someome could explain to me. I got countries from Africa then with US southern states (like NC SC GA etc) as if there was somw sort of traveling but im not sure how they would no that or what it even means.

    I've sent my dna to ancestry dnaland and gedmatch and they were pretty much the same. Each company focuses on different areas but the results shouldn't be off that much by percentages. also there at geneticists that can also do this work but it runs in the thousands of dollars. Scientist/geneticist spencer wells did a study here in ny with national geographics and it was amazing. As this field of science grows so will the information get better.

  • @cathkails
    @cathkails Před 5 lety

    Actually, there are genetic markers that overlap for Finland/Native/Polynesian/asian. Especially in small percentages, there could potentially be confusion over which one is coming up. Also, sometimes there is actually just "background noise" that doesn't really represent any of your DNA, and is better ignored. These are some of the reasons why there are such discrepancies between varying companies. Also, some companies report the "noise" and others drop them entirely. Most calculators that I have tested with have given me some percentage of Asian, and several with Polynesian, a few with Native. But when uploading my raw DNA to My Heritage it just said "white," basically. Lol. 100% European, mainly French/German (49.9), English (29.9), and then they called a portion Scandinavian--20.6 (I think this is an incorrect labeling, but that's a separate rant.). I have a paper trail for my family's heritage, so I'm sure of most of it (mainly the French, German, and English) but I have recently discovered a variable in regards to parentage of my grandmother and that my genetic great grandfather does NOT have a paper trail. The odd bits I received on the other sites are an appropriate amount to assume they came from a single great grandparent. Also wanted to note, my French/German is nearly 70% on FamilyTreeDNA--the site I actually tested with and used the raw DNA from to upload to My heritage. Personally, I find FamilyTreeDNA more accurate based on what I know of my family, but it's likely some where in between the two companies (and between other companies I have tested with.)

    The Nth Russian ancestry has most likely come down through the Vikings that colonised that part of the world back in the 8th Century. They mixed in with the local Finno-Ugric peoples and spread their genes when they moved further down through that part of the world. You should actually try and trace your family tree. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you have some connection with the founders of Kievan Rus. If that is the case, you have a direct line running back over 1200 years :) You could even have another link through the Baltic nations like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

      While this may not invalidate what I said as a whole, depending on how well you think I qualified my original comment, this link does provide more context. blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2015/06/23/ancestrydna-the-viking-in-the-room/ And speaking of context, something I forgot/neglected to mention is that my understanding is that there's either no distinct genetic marker for Scottish DNA, or that Scottish DNA is virtually indistinguishable to that of Irish DNA (which appears to have some kind of unique marker associated with it). As with anything, it's good to consult experts. My intent here is only to try and clarify and correct my original comment as best I can. I'm not an expert.

    On the "North West Russia" - if it's the ancestry test, then that's actually "Finland and North West Russia". I don't know why people keep focusing on the Russia part of that. Especially since when you look at the map they provide for that, like 90% of the covered area is Finland. And most of the part of North West Russia covered USED to be part of Finland.
    I myself was somewhat surprised by my results - I knew I was going to be mostly Finnish, but I got 99% Finland/North West Russia. And a strange 1% from Central Asia. :D

    A lot of people don't understand biology, dna or genetics.
    People assume that if you're light skin - that you're white. I know several people who have one parent or even a grandparent who are a person of color, and often the critics never believe them when they say they're mixed.
    And as you've said in your previous videos - you've never claimed to be black or brown but said you're MIXED. And that is your right to identify as such.

    You look Spanish but if you mix white and black you tend to get colouring of the Mediterranean folk.

    The Vikings account for the Russian genes that show up in Western Europe or the Russian Jews that fled to Western Europe in the 1800s.. The early Kiev rulers, i.e., Ivan the Terrible were Nordic or Nordic/Slavic mix.
