  • Joker 2019 brings us a brand new (ish) take on the classic Batman villain. It will explain and explain a new origin that borrows from some classic stories including The Killing Joke as well as elements of other stories like Batman 1989. So let's get into as many of his known origins as we can from the comics, the Heath Ledger Dark Knight version, the animated series and more. Thanks for watching.

    I've always enjoyed "fell into a vat of chemicals and went crazy" for its comic book simplicity.
    Is he motivated by past grievance? Nah, he fell in a vat.
    Was he twisted by a long and complex life of trauma? Nah, he fell in vat.
    Is he a reflection of some dark thread in modern society revealing that *we* are the true Jokers???.........Nah, he fell in vat.

    That Pale Man shit doesn't really work for normal Joker, but for an alternative take, it's kind of amazing. The idea that he's more a spectre than a man - honestly, that really gave me the chills. I think the Joker can be _scary,_ sometimes, especially when you lean into the more violent aspects of his personality, but he's never _terrifying..._

    The theory of the Dark Knight Joker being ex-military is really solid, other than what’s said in the video, he’s shown to have experience with explosives, mentions a “truck load of soldiers” that blows up to Harvey Dent, and he even says “I know squealers when I see them, and...” when he first meets the mob leaders, hinting he’s been apart of “enhanced interrogations”. Nolan’s Joker is probably an army vet who suffered from PTSD and he used the persona of the Joker to cope with the psychological pain.

    There was a cereal ad in an old Gamepro magazine where this kid is VERY angry about getting some plain Cheerio's or something and the kid's face suddenly cracks into a demented smile while his skin bleaches itself and his hair grows out quickly all green and shiny. It was terrifying. The idea that The Joker is just this unstoppable spirit of cereal madness that could seize hold of you at any moment, any age, haunts me to this day.

  • @NoConsistency
    @NoConsistency Před 4 lety +5

    Joker is best with no origin. It makes his entire existence a juxtapositional joke on Batman. Batman wears a mask, modulates his voice, and takes other extraneous actions to hide his identity. Despite this, many characters in including Robin, Alfred, and depending on the storyline, other select individuals in Gotham and the DC Universe know his secret identity. But the joker doesn't do that. The Joker wears no mask, no costume, The Joker presents himself as an open book. A man with no filter who does and says anything he wants. Yet we know nothing about him. The joke is that we know almost everything about Batman, despite his efforts to keep it concealed, and we know nothing about The Joker, despite his outward, unchained personality. When you give the Joker a definitive origin, that Joke on Batman is ruined. It's all part of their perfect duality.

    Here's a Joker cinematic origin theory. Joaquin Phoenix is the original recipe Joker in the Snyderverse that ends up killing Jason Todd, then Ben Affleck's Batman kills Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, and he's Batman's first kill. Later on Jason Todd is resurrected in a chemical Lazurus pit, and Jason Todd becomes Jared Letos Joker.

    This isn’t an origin, but my prediction is that Arthur Fleck dies at the end of Joker, but his effect on society is so big he inspires other people in the future to become The Joker. Always preferred a joker who had no clear origin or at least told different origins to different people. It maintains the sense that he is just some crazy, unpredictable guy.

    The Joker was a comedian who was Batman’s biggest fan when he murdered his own parents and hired a kidnapping just so BATMAN would save him and when he was rejected he was forever mad at batman. he fell into the wrong crew and turned out a thief when he fell into the acid trying to steal from the acid place, that’s when he got all the makeup

    Everytime he says Fathah (Father). I think of the shark from Finding Nemo. "He doesn't even know his fathah"

    I quite like the theory that all the parts where Arthur is the Joker.. it's a Hallucination like the movie 'The King of Comedy"

    The Joker was a Clown at the same Circus where the Flying Graysons were performing, and when they died, so did Joker's family. But when Dick Grayson was adopted, trained, and loved?; Joker instead was left on his own to be taken over by his own depression.

    Don't know if it's my favorite, but the Telltale origin was very interesting and quite different than most.
