    Really enjoyed watching you ride. Very light touch on the bars and controls. Just sipping on the fuel , riding the wave of torque.
    Definitely a rider with some skills.

    You are one of two people who I’ve watched review this bike and actually show it filtering in traffic….many talk about it, but none actually show it….so as someone who is looking to get this bike and would be filtering with it, thank you soooo much for capturing it on film!!
    Ps flip up headlights…yeah they were big back in the day hahahaha…now it’s all about LEDs that are so bright they blind other traffic lol

    The '82 Katana 1000 is the famous one that collectors are looking for. When it was released, it was a total game changer for motorcycle styling. I think the new Katana's styling is based on the '82 Katana.

  • @winchester92stevebrook44
    @winchester92stevebrook44 Před 10 měsíci +5

    I had the original 1100 Katana, the styling was very different to other motorcycles at that time. The riding position was more aggressive than the new version, with clip on bars and rear set footrests. It didn't have the pop up headlight, like the example at Frank's, and looked nicer (in my opinion). There were also two false switch positions on the right hand side panel, (the circular choke was on the left panel). It was a bike you sat in, rather than on, with it's low sculpted seat and stretched over the tank. Fast for it's time, I thoroughly enjoyed riding it, taking it out 365 days in my first year of ownership.

    I had a good pal who bought one of those 750 Katana’s when they came out in the eighties. It was based on the GSX750, rather than the GSX1100 of the early eighties. Suzuki also made a rare GSX 1000 Katana. I like the new Katana. I have no trouble imagining how much better the chassis and brakes are from any previous models!

    I was actually in my local Suzi dealership today and sat on a new Katana and liked it. What I didn't like, was the very slim handlebar grips coz, as soon as the weather gets cooler my Raynaulds kicks in sooner. Nothing beats a Harley grip. Although I liked the first edition Katana very much, i'm tempted to say the newest edition is very appealing, especially in this colour. I'm sure you'll give it a high score on your final assesment. Long live Suzuki!

  • @exothermal.sprocket

    I've noted the difference between twin-cylinder and inline-4 cylinder engines, especially on bikes that don't weight that much more. The feeling is of more mass and stability. Mostly that's due to heavier crankshaft, flywheel, heavier wheels and tires. It all adds up to a sense of more mass to move, whether revving the engine, steering the bike, transitioning from side to side.
    Featherweight bikes are actually more fatiguing at speed due to all of the movement the wind and road imparts on the lack of mass. Any wind that buffets your shoulders and arms will also input steering into the bike and that adds to fatigue with light bikes.
    Inline-4 engines might seem a bit bland to some folks, but they are the better highway engine for elevated speeds. You can wake them up with an exhaust system.

  • @Stevo73660
    @Stevo73660 Před 10 měsíci +1

    As mentioned below the original Katana was a whole new concept and had the marmite love or hate about it but the engine was a very grunty and powerful engine which was popular on the drag strip in various forms. This new version does look a nice bike although looking down on the controls could be mistaken for an adventure bike. Looks good though. The old one definitely was a true muscle bike and would rate higher in its time. If you know what I mean. Those old 16 valve air cooled engines were very tough.

  • @Dan-56
    @Dan-56 Před 10 měsíci +1

    As an “Old Fart” that drooled on the originals in the showrooms, I have just a couple of nit-picks. The windscreen should have been a little taller, (The factory accessory parts did list one 😉.), and likewise the bars just a bit lower. Also I think it would have looked better with the tail section extending beyond the end of the seat like the original and not a “hugger” behind the tire. That said, I looked into buying one here in the US in 2022 but they were no longer imported 🙁. So in 2023 I ended up purchasing the GSX-S1000GT, same power plant, different bodywork 😉.

    I like it. The original was before my time but it's an icon, so I've always known about it. One of my first toy bikes was the 1000 Katana. Over the years I've been impressed by many Katana custom builds using GSXR parts... looks like Suzuki felt the same way. I rode the K5 Gixxer thou' this is based on, a more modern superbike icon. The quality of those K5 underpinnings will always stand out. The amazing gearbox you felt strsight away, aided by the new quick shift will be a joy to use. Proven suspension and brakes and most importantly that engine is just excellent straight through the rev range. It's shit you can't show any footage playing with the higher revs! Laws suck😢.
    80s angular 'futuristic' styling is gonna be a weird one to recreate for modern times. I think lots more new retro bikes will be this flavour in the coming years. I'm very happy about it!! Cool and different -kinda oddball. But underneath that's a weapon in a funky 80s retro outfit. And Suzuki's new high end build quality and finish continues to impress. Yoshimura exhaust and a tail tidy and a Simpson bandit helmet are all I think I'd need to own one. 😎🤘🤩

    The Katana is like the ginger step child of the Suzuki range. To be honest I really like the styling although it divides opinion. The biggest bug bear for me as a daily commuter is the tank size / range, it would drive me mad keep filling it. I actually cannot remember seeing one in the wild.

    I think Suzuki absolutely nailed it with the new Katana. Like the original, it has styling that is gorgeous and that sets it apart from all the other bikes on the road. Compare that to, say, the new Honda Hawk, Suzuki GSSX-8S and Yamaha MT09, which are so similar that you have to really squint to tell them apart. Plus they got the 80's neo-retro sauce just perfect.

      What do you mean when you say ‘full power license’? I’m looking to start learning to ride and after looking RE and HD stuff have decided to go with Suzuki. I don’t plan on riding loads of different bikes, but ideally get one bike and keep it until I’m too old to ride (at the mo I’m thinking Hayabusa or this Katana….I just wondering how many tests and how long I have to wait before I can buy one and legally ride it? Are our UK bike licenses based on the power of the bike or something? (Sorry for the stupid question - am clueless about bike licenses lol)

      Re the actual breakdown - thank you sooo much. I think we have something similar here but its confussing for me to work out exactly what bikes I can and can't ride one whatever license. I dont want to start out on say a 125 and then spend a few years on that, then sell it and repeat on a 250 and then all the way up to say Katana. Ideally I just want to get the bike I want as soon as I pass, learning as I go on it and keep it until I get too old to ride. Just had enough of doing that with cars - where I've owne a lot over the years and now just want to ride for pleasure and the odd commute into the city. Thanks again for the info, much appreciated 👍

    I've never been a fan of Suzuki bikes except the original Katana. This new one is still true to form.
    I've all my life been fascinated with the industrial machine not to mention bikes and as such, fully faired sports bikes just don't do it for me. I love the performance, but the looks are just too much plastic hiding the machine. Having said that, you'd think I'm a big fan of naked bikes?, But not really. The modern ones are mostly all function and little form and that's what's always made the Katana such a unique and beautiful bike. I'm chuffed Suzuki has brought it back.

    I had the original 1981 Katana GSX750S and GSX1000S wich were the original hunchback super bikes . The modern Katana is more in keeping with the 83 pop headlight model which we thought more of an American style bike with it's high bars and sit up and beg seating. The original Katana had clip on bars and rear set pegs and you sat in it rather than on it. Suzuki ruined it with the pop up headlight model.

    I don't like the short back end on the new bike and the we-have-to-put-something-behind-the-back-wheel thing. A friend of mine borrowed his cousins "tuned" Katana in the late 1980'ths. The police stopped him and started to measure the noise. They had to move away from the area where people lived and into an industrial area to complete the measurement. 130 dB was not OK...

    • @tomboyabit
      @tomboyabit  Před 10 měsíci

      I think that back wheel thing has to do something with a number plate level for cameras. Another annoying ‘regulation’.
