Nicola Guerra was born on May 2nd 1965 at Naples and died on February 5th 1942.
He studied with Aniello Ammaturo, one of the best students of italian Carlo Blasis, as well as french August Hus. It's said that Aniello would make him put weights during the dance exercises and also to hold the legs in the air for longer periods of time, to gain strength, stability and balance. According to Leopold Adice, this kind of teachings can be traced to Filipo Taglioni and originally to Carlo Blasis.

In 1929 in Paris, Nicola Guerra wrote a text delineating hsi method for teaching the first two years at the Opera.
