So I’m a lefty and broke as hell so I bought a $275 white strat style guitar so I could paint it. I got a picture of the original and flipped the image in post and created the first left handed Rocky Strat. I had so much fun doing it and i think it looks great :).

Haha... I did the same. My wife is a graphic artist and an absolute genius at matching colors. I took my 1993 American Standard (originally black) and she hand painted the mirror image of Rocky. Came out absolutely stunning. So much more authentic than the Fender finish because its not a perfect even glossy body -- it has real texture. Bumps and valleys in the paint just like George's. You can only get that by hand painting.

So glad to Fender finally tackle this one. I did a version of Rocky myself using a Squier SE model (full thickness body and neck) and it turned out great! I used the big photo in the Tony Bacon Guitars of the '60's book as reference as well as someone's screen grabs from the George Harrison guitar app that Dhani showed off a few years ago. I wasn't concerned with getting every color super exact but I approximated and got it good enough for me. And yes, man are there a lot of colors! Including Pattie Boyd's sparkle green nail polish! The hard part is that the day glo neon colors aren't as bright as modern neon which would look too weirdly bright to me. I simply sanded down the original finish, sprayed it white (for color pop), sprayed it Sonic blue, and then did the custom artwork. I also added a three ply pickguard painted as well. It was really fun to do and I enjoyed it a bunch! Be-bop-a-lula and go cat go!

I suck at drawing and had to do a lot of tracing, and I didn't even try to get the hardware and pickups exact (though I had a pickup winder and a lot of possible wiring diagrams off the Internet. Long story short, I gave it to a friend at Christmas and he liked it a lot. Later I made another. The guy was happy and I put the profits toward a "Chibson" copy of George's red Les Paul, which was what I REALLY wanted.

Like Hendrix with his Monterey Strat. And Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce of course, who had their G***on SG and Fender Bass VI painted by The Fool Collective in the Netherlands. So it was a common thing in those years of Psychadelia and Flower Power. 25 Grand? C'mon, it's only a repainted Strat...just my 2 cents...

I guessed $10,000. So yeah, 25 is overkill. I like the idea of a replica, but not at a non-replica type price. I worry that Fender is raising their prices due in part to the Game Of Thrones line. Then I saw the Limited Edition Strat and Tele with the cool fretboard for $2500, and I started thinking Fender is losing their way. Especially when you consider their flagship line is less expensive. They seem to be charging more money for less guitar these days. I hope whomever is making these decisions will stop and revert to how they were pricing 2 years ago. Fender is my go-to, but if they continue down this road, I'm not sure myself and others will stay. Fender is the "working-class" brand that also makes custom shop guitars. I'd hate to see it leave that position. I'm all for innovation and custom work, but it shouldn't mean a price hike across the board and sacrificing bang for the buck in the non custom lines. I'd love to see more options in the mod shop (like a curved heel), fancy fretboards, things of that nature. Maybe some custom package options like an era reissue with period correct guitar, amp, and pedal packages. Those two ideas would generate a lot of great revenue. I love the company, the innovation, the R&D; all of it. I just hope they don't forget us.

Old news but remember the story of one of George's doctors at the end of his life asking him to sign a guitar for his son, which George did saying, "I'm not sure I can write my own name anymore." Sure, George was very witty but still says to me he was very sick. POS doctor sold it. Family sued to get it back. If I were Olivia or Dhani I'd spend whatever it took to get it back just for the pleasure of burning the damn thing.
