Once EC was "God" - now he's just richer than God. I've always admired his artistry - and some of the money he has is mine that I gladly sent his way. BUT - these celebrity "tribute" guitar and amp promotions always make me cringe - owning a "Lucille" won't help you play like BB any more than owning a Lennon Casino will help any of John's tone or creativity rub off on you. The celebs they pick out to endorse these cynical marketing ploys always lose a bit of my respect when they take the money and blow smoke. If they needed the $$$$ it would be one thing, but they don't - so why prostitute yourself?

Tablature Butler while I can totally appreciate that about putting your name on a guitar, I have to ask: have you played one of these classics? some of these repros are phenomenal copies of guitars that we mortals will most likely never see, let alone play. guitars like this one, while being a limited run, are a shot at owning that sound. and while im neither old nor young anymore, I love old guitars and own a few, but nothing like these. so they open a door for mortals to have the sound.
but the ability? yeeeeeaaaaah, ill stick to rhythm, thanks. :-) happy playing!

Actually, I do play a replica guitar, in a manner of speaking. My prime guitar is a Tokai Springy Sound strat that is one of those "lawsuit" guitars, modeled in this case on a '59 strat. I sure couldn't afford the real thing either, but this one comes close enough to be a collector's item on its own merit. All the best...

+fishy paw Yes, a simple technique, more known back in his day of the late 60s for the "woman tone" as Lucas says above. A lot of younger players go full shred on the treble today, particularly piercing and not so pleasant when distorted, fuzzed, overdriven, etc. Roll back the tone knob a bit to lessen the treble, folks, it sounds so much better, rounded and smoother.

I wish people would stop banging on about this "old man" This man is one of the greatest stalwarts for the electric guitar, it's evolution and continuing popularity, we all get old I'm afraid -- even the Who and they didn't want to! I used to live just down the road from EC, fixed his classic car one time and even shared a Pub gig with him, he is nicest celebrity I've ever met, more than happy to share a chat with the ordinary guy/girl in the street. When in his younger days he was a "Guitar God" even Jimi befriended and admired him. He's kicked the fags and the drugs and still plays brilliantly today. If you love the electric guitar please have respect for Eric who has brought so much pleasure to so many people for decades --- and still does!

The truth is that were it not for Clapton, half the butt heads who denigrate him would be waiting tables. Oh, excuse me, they are.
He has his flaws, and I'll jump on his case for those in a New York minute. But before you bare your ass bad mouthing him, look at the track record, the concerts, the albums, and the money he has made.
Making money isn't easy, especially for a guitar player.

    • @Pun2404

      Agreed.
He sold his guitars to literally fund the drug and alcohol rehabilitation of the islanders of Antigua, where Clapton of course has Crossroads Centre and has had a house there since the 80s. He is one of the nicest guitar gods out there.
And he'll be the first to admit that when he was drunk he was an asshole, but after living the life he has and having close to 30 years of sobriety will bring a person a lot of perspective and humility, not to mention the Crossroads Centre that's continually working toward changing the lives of thousands of people from around the world every year from the throes of addiction. Eric is the man.

I want a pristine canvas that I can put my own dents and stuff into. At least I'll know where it came from and have the memories that are attached to them.

That’s why they do them in the VOS finish as well usually, those look old but they don’t have every ding of the original. I like when people like Fender do relicing because it’s always different with each guitar. Gibson usually just recreates someone else’s.

The messed up part is they were bros so its kind of rotten. Although i will say george was forsure cheating on her while they were married most notably with ringo's wife lol. I should also say in their defense it was the 60's and 70's... you know, free love and all that jazz lmao. But it's not much of an excuse since both Clapton and George at that time of their fame could of gotten damn near any woman they wanted.
