All those lead actors in the original movie deserved an Oscar; and we all know it!
Every Single One!!!!
Such a great movie!
No doubt, Oscar worthy!!! to all who starred in an amazing movie!!!
She so FAKE!!!
Yep
I love how Whoopi is unapologetically herself. So down to Earth.
Harpo the only husband you ever had❤. Steadman step your game up.❤
*NOTHING beats the original but the 2023 REIMAGINED version that premiered today is an instant classic in its own right. So good!*
Wow. And yes they are the original. I love this movie. I can't wait to see the Color Purple on tomorrow. Every show was sold out.
This movie today definitely beats the old one celie and shug just kissed each other on the forehead and if f&t don't do more than that in this movie IM DONE
Well said!
I love the new one. The classic is good and watched last night. But the new one…amazing.
@@BrandonShow I'm gonna take your word for it can't wait to check it out when it's online
“I’m the only husband you ever had!….”😂
Great movie saw it today . I laughed , I cried , I sang , I danced
Does anyone else occasionally go back to watch Oprah interviews like me ? Cause i truly love how she interviews ❤
I've never done that but thank you so very much for putting it on my mind! It'll be a HUGE treat. Especially to take time away from the current programmed hosts. 🎉😊
Thank you
I do.
@@youuuknooow7699 it's actually quite insightful watching some of her old interviews .you are welcome
@@tulsacaupain2882 isnt it so cool her style of interview is so masterful
@@KyeyuneBatuma She does it with so much ease. I love it. I hope we can enjoy the new version and enjoy it without all the pitting people against eachother. Love from Amsterdam and I hope 2024will be good to you.
That movie!!!! The remake!!!! The ending song, and all of the cast just in general!!!! Fantastic! I took myself today and it was amazing! Fantasia poured her soul into this film.
Agreed!
@@Nay7373 *i know nOthing about a remake..?*
Can't wait to watch it!!! 💜
@@BoobooPie_91 *this oprah thing and the ellen shows are OLD though*
Margaret showed up looking as BEAUTIFUL that day as she was in the film. 💅🏾
Wow..I never realized Oprah had never acted before.. brilliant acting!
That’s what makes a good director. Both fantastic
Academy award worthy performance.
It was her acting debut in the original movie.
I thought she had already done Women of Brewster place.
@@davidpintor5084 That was after The Color Purple
I’m 41 now.
I watched this film as a young child and have watched it thousands of time since.
The first film to make me cry and no matter how many years later I watched - would still cry (the return of her sister/children scene).
This film touched me. Touches me and as I write this I will declare this is in my top ten film of all time .
Each time I watch I’m at a different age/stage in life and I see/feel different themes-messages - an historical visual document which I hope inspires so much more for many years to come.
….. I’m 42 and my daughter, who’s 18, and I watched it for the first time(together) last night. I of course have seen it a million times but the older I get the more I get from it or see something I missed when I was younger. I still get emotional also. We plan on seeing the new version today.
I felt the same way I grew up watching this as a child but , now as a 41 year old woman with life experience.. the story resonates differently and deeply. I enjoyed the reimagined version . They did an excellent job
"NEEEETIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE!"
"Celie..."
Steel magnolias is the movie that always makes me cry. Especially the scene where they're at the cemetery
Harpo: The only husband you ever had
😆 😊
24:26 when the actress who played Nettie didn’t come hug Whoopi she looked at her like an auntie and gave that “girl you better come hug my neck” look 😂 love it
I saw that!!!!
Yup. I peeped that too. They gave each other a long embrace that look from Whoopi😅
Noticed that too!❤😂😁 she took herself right on over there! Much Love!
This film has played such a huge part in millions of our lives. The Color Purple is Film/art/literature royalty. Black talent has defined American culture from the very beginning.
Whoopi, sorry for the loss of your mom🙏 The Color Purple was absolutely wonderful and I cried, laughed and rejoiced thru the film. Thank you all for this priceless remake.
My favorite lines are: "I gotta go to school." And "Lord Ms. Ciely, when I looked up and seent yo face, I knows there is a God." That was a beautiful moment.
Just imagine Whoopi, at such an age, still manages to act funny in front of the biggest interview that many celebrities would love to be on and still looks all cute with her humorous mannerisms is so satisfying to me.
Whoopi you are one of my greatest favorite boldest film star of all times
@@barbaramignott7920 say that again Maam
I watched the original Color Purple and it was so touching with Whoopie Goldberg. I have not seen the new version but I hope it was good also. I am so glad that Oprah had Whoopie on her show and they were very cordial with each other, God Bless u both.
I have always felt that Whoppi as genuinely herself...then rehearing the teaching of her mother encouraging her to be herself and people may think she's weird or strange... re-enforces that feeling.
Going to see the new movie in 45 minutes. I bought tickets for my mama, brother and my 11 year old niece.....that is what brought me here to this clip today. I have loved this moved since I was a little boy at 7 years old in 1985, now I'm 45 and STILL love this movie.
This movie will always be engraved in our hearts! Epic!
Akousa gave regal princess energy in that movie so makes sense she really is.
Quincy has been behind aaaaa loooot of building black Hollywood, making people seen.
I can't wait to cry at the new one
I was shooked to find out that she’s a real princess from Africa even more amazing
The original Color Purple will always be the best! Period!
As I prepared to watch 'The Color Purple' (2023) on this particular evening, this reunion held a unique and heartwarming significance. For those who haven't had the opportunity to experience Alice Walker's 1982 masterpiece in literature or the 1985 film adaptation, I wholeheartedly urge you to do so at your earliest convenience.
"Did I ever ask you for anything? I never asked you for anything, not even your sorry azz hand in marriage."

This whole cast should have been involved during the new movie premieres. Because they are the originals.. This new cast is amazing...
I just saw the new 2023 version of the movie. I laughed, cried and felt so much joy!! What a new classic!! Thanks to all the crew that made it happened!!❤️

Nothing can touch the movie The Color Purple. I enjoyed the remake, but it wasn't as good as the original. I hope someone gets an Oscar because the Academy robbed the original cast, and their careers were stunned.
Period
I like Whoopie in movies but not on the view
I just love Whoopi 😍🙌🏾
I'm so glad when I was young my mother sat us down and we watched The Color Purple as a family. It's still a top favorite of mine to this day. ❤❤❤
I just watched the original movie for the 1st time 3 weeks ago. And im 30. Ive known about this movie my whole life, saw all the memes and all. Just never had time to sit and watch it. But im glad i did. Amazing movie. ❤
Same watched the original for the 1st time as well enjoying this interview.
All actors and actresses are one of a kind. I love Whoopie's Mansion.
Had the opportunity to see the movie on Christmas Day! Such a beautiful and inspiring remake! Several surprises with cast I had no idea were a part of the movie! Everyone did an amazing job in their roles, but if I had to nominate someone to receive an award for their role, it would be Danielle Brooks as Sophia! She was very powerful and gave a strong, convincing performance!
So she lived up to Oprah's version of Sophia, which was gigantic in itself and put some Respeccct on it!
Totally AGREE, she stole it! She was AMAZING! She was AMAZING in "Mahalia" too! I hope she wins an Oscar!👑🦚💜💜💖💝❤️🩹🌹💎🎭🎬🎞
@@ericadobson8445 That DID it for me! Absolutely brilliant piece of acting!💜💜👑🦚💖💝❤️🩹🌹💎🥂🎭🎬🎞
This is not current but still fun to watch. Would love to see them now all together.
That spirit of division is so bad in the black community. I pray for healing so we can come together. ❤🙏
There is no black community. Wise up!
Agreed -- since the days of slavery and the infancy of colorism. I suppose it will never end until the Lord's Second Coming.
Been looking for this reunion for a long-time. Remember watching when this aired!! Such an amazing reunion!!!
The NEW Movie; is absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!! PERFECTION!!!
Wow ... I can't believe Oprah's monologue was ad-libbed! That's my favorite monologue in the movie! That's the point where Sophia comes back to life.
I remember as a child ,Our family had movie nights ,Dad would go to the video store and ask us shall i get a whoopi ,excited for dad to walk in with the movie! her movies gave me so many happy memories 😊x
38:58 “Harpo” had the best response 😂💜
This reunion had me laughing and tearing up. The entire cast was awesome. I saw the original Color Purple when I was 16 years old. It was on a family night with my parents, sister, and first boyfriend. I cried so hard during the movie and I was furious with Danny Glover himself because I thought sure that couldn't be just acting. 😮😅 Years later and this is still my favorite movie. Danny Glover and all of the cast were remarkable in this movie. So I look forward to seeing the remake with Fantasia, Taraji, and Danielle. I am totally excited about the new movie "The Color Purple".
My favorite lines might be when Mr. Adolph was going off after he got the special water on the porch. He just randomly goes off about the chickens roaming free and laying eggs all over the place. I was a kid when this came out, but this just tickles me each time I watch it.
Danny Glover telling us about them partying prior to dinner scene is hilarious 😂 Now we know why Sophia didn't have food on her plate 🍽 during a take.
Wow , Whoopi Goldberg, I remember her in a movie Sarafina, she was brilliant in that movie.
This was and is the MOST MAGICAL cast 🪄
Those are grown-up ladies moving on and keep enjoying their lives !!💞Thank you, Harpo, for this episode
YASSSSSS. it was breathtaking!!! ❤😊
I saw the newest version yesterday and I was so emotional! Spectacular performance
At the first showing this morning, I was so moved by, The Color Purple. The story line remake was all that I needed to know it’s all in Devine Order!
The reunion was amazing!!!!
Merry Christmas! I watched the musical movie this morning and was completely satisfied! Absolutely great 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💜
Thank U for posting this! I’m home sick in bed so I couldn’t go see the new Color Purple today. I was so looking forward to it! I’m wearing my purple robe too! I loved this reunion! Whoopie & Oprah together! Everything Q & Steven touches turns to pure magic. Love & Blessing to all! 💜🙏✨
Bless you beloved. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hope for you a speedy recovery.
Get well soon! Thanks for supporting!
When you do go see the NEW remake you are going to love it! IT stands on its own!❤❤❤❤
Glad for reconciliation, communication is the key, 2 Beautiful women....run from All the negative voices. 🎉
lol This took place years ago.
@@RestorationEdenMinistries; They’re still cordial; they just live in different States & May not necessarily be close but still maintain mutual respect. It’s the media totting lies about them
Beefing!!!
Well now why are they beefing NOW? Why did Oprah make Whoopi cry backstage at the View?
I was a young teenage boy 13yr and my mom & her sisters took me to see The Color Purple and gave me the book after. The book was so much better & I still have my copy.
Finally this episode is now available on CZcams
I loved this movie my side used to hurt laughing and saying this is the one for me. Some of us actually lived our lives as these people so we all know I enjoyed this movie a lot.
💐💐💐 to ALL 🤣 of nostalgia as I was 18 when the original 1985 The Color Purple debut. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Thank Y💜U ✨️Queen Alice Walker✨️ and creative souls Black Men & Women for sharing an element of our African American Diaspora of perseverance Sankofa experience with LOVE & UNITY🫂 Watching this special

Wow!.. I was 17 and the memories still impact me as if the movie came out yesterday 😉
Akosua has not aged at all. She looks beautiful.
I definitely enjoyed the remake i just watched it but Oprah keep making it all about her in this interview 🤣
The Color Purple is The Best Movie Ever...Full of Hope for the Whole World 🌎 It is Stellar and Positively Brilliant...Thanks to Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones and all the cast members for their 😂Great Work...Thanks Actress Catherine Jackson 💜 💜
Yes! By far the best story ever written! It’s brilliant.
God bless you Whoopi! Sorry for your loss. Thank you Oprah!
Whoopie looks good after all she's been through health issues. She really looks awesome.
My tears flow everytime I see or hear about this movie I just saw the new version Nothing will ever take its place in my heart than the original . What a powerful and amazing movie it was . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤😊
I'm crying now
And what???
It was great seeing this. I wish The Voice behind all of Shug's songs in _The Color Purple,_ Ms. Táta Vega, had been included in this reunion.
You! woman from Ghana you are astonishingly beautiful. I appreciate all of the cast members but Akosua baby you were making a statement with your melanin skin. And I love it
Mr. Q Jones made it happen forreal..They all look good🎉
I literally was looking for this about 5 days ago. 💜
This was my mother's favorite movie. Classic film.
Watching this reunion I immediately remember being a child watching it with my Grandmother and Grandaddy. My Grandaddy love this movie and would tear up at the end of the movie. The scene when the guys are building the railroad tracks and the foreman is singing to keep them digging at the same time. My Granddaddy would tap his feet and smile at that part. The Celie character had to endure so much verbal and physical abuse. I remember wondering why doesn't she run away with her sister. Leave Mr. who obviously doesn't love her. She had such low self esteem she couldn't seem to make that first step. I felt her pain all those years she was miserable she felt like she had no where to go she was stuck. God bless all these people who made these beautiful characters come to life. I miss my Grandparents so much especially around the holiday season I would give anything to see my Grandaddy smile and sing along one more time.
This movie was hands down my favorite as a child and even to this day. When I think about it I am not sure why I loved it so as a young girl...meaning it's not really a children's movie per say. I watched this movie until I knew line by line. My cousin would come over and we would watch it over and over and do the hand games Ceiley and Netty did together. This movie is part of My childhood and the acting was superb so.much so that us as children were gravitated to it. I thank you all for this masterpiece.
Amazing casting. So proud of you guys ❤
Rae Dawn Chong & Oprah's back & forth sending me 😅😂
Yeah, Rae is hating on Oprah, imagine that..
@@cleopatrabonz Na... that's deep-rooted. She attacked Oprah as soon as she hit the stage. Oprah is just good at trying to cover up what she does. What's even crazier..we hear👂🏽all the things Oprah is doing.. Allegedly.
& some ppl still support her.. now imagine that 🤷🏽♀️😉
@@CraftingGuidelines I don’t agree. Rae has always been that way, she always thought she was entitled because of her father Tommy Chong..she said nasty things about Oprah’s weight and looks, I’m quite sure Oprah would never say those terrible things about her.
@@cleopatrabonz I do not know Rae personally but that wasn't an entitled situation privilege between her & Oprah. She did not treat the other cast members like she treated Oprah. She was wrong for talking about Oprah's weight and looks. Oprah's punchline put a stop to that. I do know ppl do not treat ppl like that for no reason at all. The common denominator aka the truth hanging around there somewhere.
@@CraftingGuidelines Maybe so, or maybe not. One thing I heard about Rae, she does not think she’s Black, even Chris Rock made a joke about her thinking she’s not Black.
Margaret Avery/Shug is beautiful. So is the actress who played Nettie.
Ooh yes❤
I love this reunion so much and everybody looks stunning! This was my mothers favorite movie and she watched it around the Holidays every year until she died and now I picked up where she left off.
Color Purple….absolutely beautiful. Just saw it today….life changing.
The original is my favorite movie. I cry so hard at its beauty -- every single time.
The original is my favorite movie as well.
@@renealexander2703 the end when Celie meets her children and they are crying - the actor and actress had only a couple of words and I still think it is the best acting I have ever seen. I cry so hard at that part.
The “Original Color Purple” is my favorite movie also!
This short reunion was wayyyy better than the color purple remake.❤
This is so special. Thank you for this, Ms. Opra.
My favorite line and I still use it today when getting ready to clock out at the end of the day,,,,,Time to go.

Remember when movies were “in stores now”
I have enjoyed every version of The Color Purple, the book, the movie, the play and the remake of the movie. Im about to re-read the book, watch the original movie and perhaps watch the new movie again.

To see these Two together Wow, I just love these powerful Black Women. Brings joy to my soul. One Love ladies❤️👍🏼🙏🏼.
Ray dong was throwing shade and O sat her right down lol.
I just thought the same!
I know Rae had the nerve to think she was a bigger star than Oprah at the time and that Oprah was jealous of her looks, where is Rae now, no where except in the 1980’s, where Oprah is a major superstar!
Such a great book, movie, and musical. ❤️
Harpo is hilarious and the princess is absolutely stunning!
As we all age, more and more movies (and there have been many) will be remembered and showcased... and I look forward to all the reunions like this one. We all want to emotionally remember times when we were younger and all the great movies (and music) from the 70s and 80s are ready to return to an older generation.
Merry Christmas. It’s crazy to watch this [again] after learning about the new Color Purple drama between Taraji and Oprah. I’m going to see their movie today
