The Savage Garage I work at VW/Skoda. Some Cars I did oil changes on had up to three o rings still in there. Most oft them startend to leak from the filter. So always check. I spotted it right away :D
Geez I heard you had trolls but SERIOUSLY looks like half the comments are from clueless highschool students. "I think it's a diesel because the oil is black and I can't see the coil packs". Yeah. Never seen an oil change yet WITHOUT black oil. And you don't always see the coil over plug type coils because they're usually under a cover.
When the old engine oil has reached the point of dripping, its worth flushing some new engine oil through by adding it to the oil filler opening, to completely get rid of the old stuff and put the sump bolt in when this new oil is just dripping.
It's great that you are showing just how easy some things really are. Most people can do this but are scared to work on their own cars incase they do it wrong . Great channel keep it up .
Shout out to dad! Well done, you learnt a lot. The manual in the car usually tells how much oil the car takes, just go to the data page on capacity, it tells everything from oil, coolant, alignment reading range. Good to see you happy and using your grand tools.
That looked so easy. Makes you wonder why anyone would pay a garage to do an oil and filter change especially on easily accessible locations like they are on that Skoda. Good video. If it gets too hot again while you’re wearing your overalls just tie the arms around your waist.
Personal Suggestion !! VW Audi group car owners should contact there local TPS store for any VAG car parts. Specially service kit and manufacture recommended Quantum long life fully synthetic engine oils. In price comparison with GSF car parts or Euro-carParts they’re only few pounds extra as it’s always worth spending little extra for OEM parts and peace of mind.
Except all the aftermarket parts for all these European cars have better quality plastic than the OEM. What I have seen from aftermarket oil filters I fully agree though.
For anyone wondering how much oil to put in their car after an oil change it usually says in the user manual or most car oil manufacture websites you can put your reg in and it will tell you how much oil you need, the correct oil viscosity and oil spec . Castrol and Shell do.
If you need to know how much oil you need for the car, Euro car parts put the amount in the fitment details. I have never seen this before, but the reg number for the Skoda and the 5w 30 shell oil came back with the following......Other Information Cap 2.8 ltr, Cap 3.6 ltr. I have never seen this before where 2 oil levels have been quoted. Anyway, I use their oil level guide for other makes and they haven't got one wrong yet!! Hope this helps.
Hey if you want to fly on over to the states I have 3 or 4 oil changes that need done! I think oil changes are one of the most important things to do yourself so you know it's done right.
The colour of that oil was shocking for a petrol car, looks like it hasn't been changed for a long time. If it also has a turbo the owner is asking for trouble. My Leon TDI has the oil filter on the top of the engine. I use a Pela vacuum oil extractor though the dipstick hole, so much easier than getting under the car.
You're right, looked more like diesel engine oil. I've just bought a Leon TDI and I'm going to buy a vacuum extractor. No more taking under pans and sump plug bolts out for me 😎.
Need more love for Skoda on this platform. People still stick by the old prejudices and stereotypes of post-war, pre-Vag Skoda. Wonderful cars to drive; reliable cars, and great ol workhorses. Our 15 year old Octy is still ticking. Less than 100k on er, original headlight bulbs, never failed us and has yet to fail an MOT. My current car, Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6TDI CR (108Bhp) is just as easy to service and fun to drive. They're lovely cars and honestly; why pay the extra cash for a high end Volkswagen when you can get the same, if not more on a high spec Skoda for less. Just a thought; your engine sounds a little rough for having less than 50K. My previous monte carlo 1.2TSI (86Bhp) didn't sound so rough and i was wondering why yours sounds so loud. I mean lifter tick is a given with the engines. It's a sound you get accustomed to. But that is quite loud for what i'm used to. sadly to say Monty didn't get to reach 32K miles before he was wrote of by a box van (funny thing being that the van was in a much worse state than Monty was. He's on the road with a different owner now).
Those overalls are looking good. It is a bit of a bummer in the warm weather but it certainly beats getting your clothes dirty. You should've removed the oil filler cap before draining the old oil but other that that it was pretty much spot on.
You have double sealed the oil filter by leaving the old seal in the housing. This causes the oil pressure to drop and cause damage to the engine and most likely the chain. You need to remove that seal ASPA!!
Good stuff. Halfords want £120 to change my fabia oil, I nearly fell off my perch, it was £60 5 yrs ago Must be the cost of living crisis, I dont think. Someone here mentioned oil extraction pump, loads on ebay cheap, I will get one!
I recently found out that these oil filters have a date stamped on them from factory, only thing is that you need a UV light to see it. Thought that was quite interesting
When you started you engine up I can hear the timing chain rattling. If it keeps doing this on cold engines you should get it inspected as you can total your engine. It could just be due to low oil pressure.
With petrol Vauxhall Corsa Bs and Cs some not too loud rattling is somewhat normal when the engine is fully warmed up (the oil just thins out when hot and the tensioner does what it can), but a rattling cold engine definitely needs some immediate attention.
when ordering your oil filter from euro car parts online it tells you how much oil the engine holds, and that's does sound like a diesel and not a petrol
Hey there nice video! I sport a Skoda Fabia myself and I enjoy your videos! I just wanted to ask, would you try and jack the car up where you put the jack stands? I am not sure whether it would be a good idea because the lower control bushing seems to be right above it. Would you use a block of wood for that? Cheers!
I'm thinking of buying a skoda Fabia estate for my first car a 1.4 TSI because I need a car that will be able to tow a trailer and carry a good amount of grass clippings and various other stuff in it for the job, cheapest estate to insure I think I've looked around and i never thought I'd say it but it's clunky looks are kinda growing on me
Why not get the plastic bag seat covers with the logo on them also, you’ve kept your clothes clean by wearing the overalls but then sat on the seats after rolling around the tarmac😉 great video as always by the way👍
Please Please buy a funnel lol, I see you pouring oil in like this in most of your vides. Still, I've been enjoying them. I've just done an engine and gearbox oil change on my mini JCW this week. New break fluid to go this weekend.
On these Oil Filters, the Top O-Ring gets Stuck in the Filter Housing. At 4:57 you can see an Old O-Ring from an Old Filter Stuck in there. The Oil-Pressure will get lower than it should be. Seen Cars with 2 O-Rings stacked on Top! These Engines are notorius for Timing Chain failure, this will make it even worse. You can hear it rattling when you started it up. Also, if you reset the Service Light with the Buttons on the Cluster, you will only get a 15k km and 1 Year Intervall. To get the 30k km and 2 Year Intervall you have to reset it over a Scan tool. You should correct this!
GEMC I never saw any problems when I was researching engines before buying my 1.2 Ibiza. VAG obviously preferred it since the later EA211 TSI engines have belts, but never saw people complaining with the 1.2. I think a lot of the chain problems were on the turbo and supercharged 1.4s, more so than just turbo ones
TSI is turbo. I am sorry, but WHY is the oil that black? It is definitely not supposed to be that colour. How many KMs / years did you drive with the oil?
Oh shit dude!!!! You forget the o-ring of the old oil filter. Dont drive with it. Your oil pressure will be low and the engine can be damaged and also the oil switch light goes on. !!!!!!! Listen to me im working in vw service. You forget the o ring of the old oil filter my friend!
ss rami My firend has a Peugeot 208 it has the 1.2 3 cylinder engine and it sounds horrible. I have a VW Bora with a 1.6 4 cylinder engine and the sound isn't unpleasant. We're both 18 and live in England hence the small engines.
I did own a 2008 for 12 month and the practicality was brilliant however the engine just wasn’t fit for purpose. Then it strange noises began to appear from the engine bay lol. czcams.com/video/X11l3gKpPBU/video.html
También tengo la misma duda ,, yo tengo un skda Fabia 2014 ,,. Que filtro es compatible , el que tiene el vehículo dice W 712/91 ...le hace el 93 o 94 .?
Heres a challenge i changed the battery on my 2.0 tdi vauxhall insignia but now my mileage on the dash board has gone its reading this -------- how do i get it back reading the mileage👍
1.2 TSi engines are horrible, especially when they decide to spit the timing chain off and destroy themselves. Or even when they decide to burn oil for fun
I’m a mechanic by trade, you should never fill oil to the full mark on the dipstick as it can cause other lights to come on, always put enough oil in so it’s just over half way as that will be enough. If you put to much oil in you can get a light coming on saying oil level to high meaning you’ll have to start all over. Also why did you check the oil level before running the motor, that will give you a false reading as the oil has not circulated
When I service my cars and can’t remember how much new oil I need to put in, I tip out what I’ve emptied into a 5ltr screen wash bottle and can get a good rough gauge then of how much I need to put in 😊
Thas not how a 1.2 Petrol engine sounds like and thats not an oil from a petrol car. That is a diesel engine 1.2 TDI 3 Cylinders engine. Thats way the oil is so black. If you pull out that oil form a Petrol car, you have a problem with the Piston seals.
Seriously? It says TSI on the top of the engine and you can clearly see the four HT leads going to the coil pack. It's the 1.2 I4 turbo petrol, they all sound like that, it's a small engine.
Guy...First mistake...dipstick Out...second mistake..No nee seal on the oil screw...third mistake ...den oil liters are listed in the Manual in the glovebox... sorry but this ist no good work
To anyone that commented about a double oring situation, you were right and I have since corrected it, check out my Instagram for pictures - thesavagegarage

Why your insta is private? :/ also you should change crush washer on oil drain plug.
they are not crush washers on these, you have to change the complete bung.
Remember, remove the filler cap first, or a vacuum air lock will develop inside the engine as it drains, retaining some if the dirty oil inside.
When the old engine oil has reached the point of dripping, its worth flushing some new engine oil through by adding it to the oil filler opening, to completely get rid of the old stuff and put the sump bolt in when this new oil is just dripping.

I have a 2009 Fabia and I love working on it. Easiest car in the world to work on.
I love Škoda’s, they are my all time favourite brand of car, and the only brand I will choose when replacing my car!.
That looked so easy. Makes you wonder why anyone would pay a garage to do an oil and filter change especially on easily accessible locations like they are on that Skoda. Good video. If it gets too hot again while you’re wearing your overalls just tie the arms around your waist.
Loving the channel I work in a garage myself and it’s good to see some one who knows what they are doing
Good old dad 👍

I have a piece of hardwood with a groove on it for the sill and o put the trolley jack on it and it never slips or damages the sill.
For anyone wondering how much oil to put in their car after an oil change it usually says in the user manual or most car oil manufacture websites you can put your reg in and it will tell you how much oil you need, the correct oil viscosity and oil spec . Castrol and Shell do.
Good Job! Great Simple to follow video! Nice one Mr 'The Savage Garage'..You a Star making it so easy to follow...
I like those overalls! You should definitely start selling them!
If you need to know how much oil you need for the car, Euro car parts put the amount in the fitment details. You left the old oil seal that fell off the old filter in a Skoda tech so something I spot
brendan mark someone else said this.. which part are you looking at as I can't see what you're on about?
Good video mate and what a cool present from your dad the overalls look great!
When i change oil i put a spirit level on the scuttle and jack the car up until its level. saves me moving it to check the levels.
Well done Skoda for allowing such brilliant access 👍
VW
@@sismofytter still the first euro car I've seen that wasn't a complete ass to work on. Although the 80s volvos were good.

Love where oil filter is thats brilliant couldn't get a easier service if you tried haha and love the boiler suit dude 👍

Chris Moore yes my friend i agree with you. I said that also but i think he doesnt read the comments
AlpaginoMC I think you're wrong I do!
Someone else said that.. which seal? Nothing came off the old filter that I could see? They looked identical next to each other
The Savage Garage i think they are trying to say that at the 4:47 mark the black circle in the oil filter housing is the seal from the previous filter
faz7862 the deal came off with the old filter so that must be a seal from even before the previous filter change! I'll look into it
Good stuff.
Halfords want £120 to change my fabia oil, I nearly fell off my perch, it was £60 5 yrs ago
Must be the cost of living crisis, I dont think.
Someone here mentioned oil extraction pump, loads on ebay cheap, I will get one!
write the date you changed the filter..on the filter... :)old skewl backup to the computer thingy.. and just in case some knob just resets it....
neil2015999 I agree ,I always write the service date on diesel filter on the vans or underside of bonnet
yep us good guys do it.. we know to check the filter for a date... :)
I recently found out that these oil filters have a date stamped on them from factory, only thing is that you need a UV light to see it. Thought that was quite interesting
I guess thats when they were manufactured Thanks for that info..

you can easy overfill, many small engines with oil. fiat grande punto petrol 1242 ccm , 2,6 L oil on max !
VW group cars are really easy to maintain and repair. That's why I love my Audi A4.
Overalls are wicked. Well done Dad.
I live in Poland, so we have lhd cars. Is that normal in a UK spec car (rhd) to have an interior hood release on the PASSENGER (left) side?
No, it's not normal !
Hey there nice video!

I think it’s a diesel car, I didn’t see any ignition coils and it sounds like a diesel plus the oil was black.
Show me an oil change where the oil ISN'T black. You never see coil packs when they're a coil over plug style setup that sits into the rocker cover.
Hi just done mine great help but service light trick wont turn mine out lol.
Blimey, that was an easy service,i wish all cars were like that LOL,i do like the overalls, well smart.
Thank you I might have a go myself now
Omg fabia get in 😂 only because I have one
Why not get the plastic bag seat covers with the logo on them also, you’ve kept your clothes clean by wearing the overalls but then sat on the seats after rolling around the tarmac😉 great video as always by the way👍
Sounds like a diesel 🙈
Fool, fool, fool. Your obviously used to hearing the word. Maybe that’s what your mum should’ve named you 🙈🙈🙈🙈👍👍
3 cylinder chain they do sound like shit
Lifters are noisey in that its a common problem on VAG engines they are hydraulic and get blocked up.
Please Please buy a funnel lol, I see you pouring oil in like this in most of your vides. Still, I've been enjoying them. I've just done an engine and gearbox oil change on my mini JCW this week. New break fluid to go this weekend.
Sorry harley guy over here. We have 3 holes on the bigger bikes. Only one oil hole here on the fabia when doing the 16.000km service?
The timing chain sounds noisy on startup to me
Kia Picantos 1L engines take maximum 3L of oil.

It's the 1.4 TSI that's prone to timing chain issues
Kieran Yarwood Done a Lot of Chains on the 1,2 aswell

1.4s were definitly the worst of them.
There is even a Special Tool from Volkswagen to Check the Chain for Stretch on both Engine Types
Someone else said the same.. which oring are you point to as I can't see any oring in the video?
Just google how much the engine takes?
Nice job.... All newer VAG vehicles have similar.setup....even a VW Tiguan :)
TSI is turbo. I am sorry, but WHY is the oil that black? It is definitely not supposed to be that colour. How many KMs / years did you drive with the oil?
5W30 oil so i guess it's some kind of long life change. Anyway the darker the oil gets, the better it's keeping the engine clean.
Nice. Get yourself some blue roll though save your mums kitchen roll!
It sounds like a law mower. Also is it just me or should cars have no less then 4 cylinders?
Many cars have 3 cylinder engines. The Peugoet 208 and the 2008 for example are 3 cylinder 1.2 PureTech petrol engines, with 81bhp
ss rami My firend has a Peugeot 208 it has the 1.2 3 cylinder engine and it sounds horrible. I have a VW Bora with a 1.6 4 cylinder engine and the sound isn't unpleasant. We're both 18 and live in England hence the small engines.

Corsa c 1.0Lhas 3 cylinders . Noisy pieces of shit. So so slow and so heavy
You wouldn't believe it from the sound but that's an I4!
What about the covers for the seats you don't want any greece to get on your friends Skoda Fabia car nice overalls . How much are the stickers
Fourth mistake... oil Change with cold engine...If the engine is cold you dont get all the old oil out of the engine 🙄
Yet you only saw him do the FILTER with a cold engine.
smart its good to help others also good to keep your hand in
You replaced 712/94 with 712/93. The gasket seals are different. 712/94 for this engine according to MANN.
Tsi engines are beautiful when running sweet but problems are in the horizon
God that engine sounds rough
Active cylinders and loud AC. I've got the same engine in mine and use good oil and mine sounds rough on idle too
I thought the same - sounds like a 200k diesel
1.2 TSi engines are horrible, especially when they decide to spit the timing chain off and destroy themselves. Or even when they decide to burn oil for fun
That 1.2tsi has a timing chain problem you can hear it on start up.
Bare in find it is 3 cylinder and the engine never sounds the same on a camera....
Awesome videos as always, keep it up ;)
I don't see a o ring in it or am I being blind good video anyway James keep up the good work
Cold engine??? Engine should be hot when draining oil.
Also why did you check the oil level before running the motor, that will give you a false reading as the oil has not circulated
if you don't know why he checked the oil level before running the engine you must be a pretty shit mechanic
Well I work at Mercedes so obviously ain’t that bad am I
You don't work for Mercedes, you work in a Mercedes dealership. Most dealerships have at least one idiot in the workshop.
Like how I’ve only been there a month and I’m doing some of the biggest jobs what dare you know all you seem to post on her is dog videos
You know nothing about me, if I was an idiot they would have got rid of me surely
When I service my cars and can’t remember how much new oil I need to put in, I tip out what I’ve emptied into a 5ltr screen wash bottle and can get a good rough gauge then of how much I need to put in 😊
I knew this was in Britain when I saw ur driveway
Hey man, I've got a Corsa C and I'm wanting to install a touchscreen head unit with built in sat nav and Bluetooth etc. You got any recommendations?
What's the difference between shell helix hx7 and shell helix hx8.
Next time use aluminium foil to channel oil from filter to drain pan.
Oil filter only with hand?no tool?
Did you take the oil cap off the help it drain faster?
big shout out to James dad mega present 👌👌
I’d be worried that there wasn’t much oil in that
Not bad couldhave done better. Thought it was a 1.4tdi for a second.
Sounds very noisy for a petrol??
Overalls are awesome buddy, happy belated birthday 👍🏼
What year make is this? I have a 2010 I want to do this on :)
You should definitely start selling them overalls
Ging by your accent,I'd say you were from Ipswich or thereabouts?
What camera do you use to record your videos mate?
You’ll never get a true level of the oil with the car sitting on a forward slope. You need to add oil and then check it on the level.
did you even watch the video
Detecting Cornwall I did and the car still wasn’t on a flat surface when he checked it at the end...
Mmmm, new filter looks exactly like old one...
8:33 reset service light ...
How's your dads trike getting on?
cool overalls .......keep up the vids dude they are very inspiring.
Ah ye a Norfolk boiiii?
What trolly jack do you use?
did it take 4 litres
I have a 1.2 Skoda Fabia Petrol no turbo.😢
sayem akhtar also that engine only takes 2,9 liters oil if I’m right (the 1.2 HTP petrol engine that is)
@@pbakker yes
Can you please buy a fabia
That engine sounds really awful, ever worse than my 1.9 TD100 engine (by Fiat).
Sweet overalls
Thas not how a 1.2 Petrol engine sounds like and thats not an oil from a petrol car. That is a diesel engine 1.2 TDI 3 Cylinders engine. Thats way the oil is so black. If you pull out that oil form a Petrol car, you have a problem with the Piston seals.
Seriously? It says TSI on the top of the engine and you can clearly see the four HT leads going to the coil pack. It's the 1.2 I4 turbo petrol, they all sound like that, it's a small engine.
Bogdan Buse it is petrol. You are clueless!
How many times have you changed oil? It gets black in petrol engines too, it just takes a longer time before it happens.
Guy...First mistake...dipstick Out...second mistake..No nee seal on the oil screw...third mistake ...den oil liters are listed in the Manual in the glovebox... sorry but this ist no good work
Freshyyy🤑
Shame it's the estate, those Mk2 estate rear ends are fugly.
4.2 litres
Oil change without the engine warm up? 😂😂😂😂😂Nooo 😢😢
