Her soul? Easy … You’re On Your Own, Kid, Mastermind, and Dear Reader. I truly believe Midnights is the most personal and self reflective album she has ever written about herself. A lot of her albums are about her in relationships (romantic, friendships, her fans, or business), or how how they made her feel. This is the first one that centers around who she is as a person.
Man, I love midnights so much. And I agree, this album touches my soul. When Calvin, Carmen and I went to the Eras Tour movie, I teared up during You’re on your own, kid. For some reason, seeing that performance hit me hard.

Eric’s Challenge: A lot of artist write about love and romantic relationships and things in that sphere, that’s why I think Marjorie is a perfect song for him to listen to because so rarely do we get songs about familial relationships especially one’s grandmother

In 1989 specifically, those messages form a whole story.

This is my new favorite crossover experience that I never in my wildest dreams thought would happen, so so so excited that y'all are continuing to look at Taylor's music.
As for Eric's challenge, I would suggest in general songs from Folklore and evermore. It was these albums that made me a swiftie, the song writing and story telling (mostly about other people) is next level. If I had to pick just one, I'd say Marjorie because it's one of my favorites and always makes me think of my own grandma I lost at the same age Taylor lost hers.

The most Taylor song for me is probably 'My Tears Ricochet', with Jack Antonoff-- her producer-- even saying it 'might be' her best written song.

never i ever thought u guys gonna react to taylor swift, but this lowkay a win for me😆. i think my tears ricochet (from album folklore) might be perfect candidate for a song from the soul. plus with 1989 taylor's version release being closer, i think the song might explain the situation related to her decision to rerecord album. i recommend to watch folklore: long pond studio sessions since she also explain a little bit about each tracks from her album which is folklore.

One of my favorite taylor swift songs. I was literally sitting here thinking "I wonder if they'll react to blank space or all too well or..." and here you guys are.
From the heart huh. All Too Well 10-minute version is that. Dear John. It could be a good 2 for 1. The emotive in-the-moment Dear John at age 19 juxtaposed with Would’ve Could’ve should’ve , a song written about the same relationship but at age 32 reflecting back as an adult & what she feels about the relationship now. So one song in the present and one sing 13 yrs later reflecting back.
Would’ve Could’ve should’ve has a lyric in it that to this days makes me shed tears..ugh... that will be a hard one to do.

I think 'Nothing New' is a very personal song, but it's not a music video. 'Cardigan' or 'Delicate' are music videos which could show her 'soul'.

I'm going to respectfully disagree about going straight to the ten minute version of All Too Well. I understand why people want you to do that version - it's (rightly) their favorite and they want you to experience the most complete version of the song.
BUT I think there's an important component that people maybe don't consider. Part of the joy of the ten minute version is having heard the original release, loved it and sat with it for a while, and then hearing the expanded version, and appreciating the differences. In one important way they're almost different songs in that while they tell a similar story, the point of view they take on that story changes. I can't explain that part more without spoiling it, I'm afraid.
Consider this: Serenity is an ok movie but you're doing yourself a disservice watching it without seeing Firefly first. My opinion is that the different versions of ATW are the same thing. If I were going to recommend an order of operations it would be to start with the 2014 Grammy performance of the original song, and then do the ATW short film which features the ten minute version (slightly longer there because the film has a few sections where the music pauses).
