I was fortunate enough to get a few lessons with Dave twenty years ago. He showed me some techniques and embouchure exercises, overtone stuff and other things directly from Allard. Absolutely invaluable to me - life changing! I am deeply grateful.

Its because I heard Dave Tofani play lead alto with the Dave Matthews band that lead me to Joe Allard. Manny Album brought the band down to Glassboro State College (Now Rowen University), and I couldn't believe Dave's sound. His sound had so much depth, it had center, roundness and edge at the same time. I went up to Dave and asked him how he got that incredible sound and he said Joe Allard and gave me Joe's number. I studied for 7 months with Joe, but he was at a time when he was forgetting. and then he got sick and recommended me to Lawrence Feldman who unlocked Joe Allard's methods. It totally changed my life....Can't thank Dave, Joe Allard and especially Lawrence Feldman. Within the last 2 years, moving out to SoCal and studied with Harvey Pittel who is a great teacher and reminded me of Joe's techniques.

Very interesting interview with another of the great woodwind studio players. And how cool to see the clip of Joe Allard performing “Rhapsody”.
