Hey there, wonderful video! Quick question, I have the gamma X-ST 6 point machine. Very similar to yours. I notice the side supports get very loose on their own, and I’m not sure if the silver knobs underneath are supposed to be tight or should I leave them loose so they can swivel freely. Thank you!!

Definitely looking forward to your next comparison review before I upgrade my stringer. In particular, I was seriously considering Revo 4000. I was reading this old post in 2006 that suggested that Gamma does not manufacture their own stringers; rather it slaps its name on a product made by another entity. If that is true, then there is an added cost just for the name. The Alpha Revo 4000 is priced a bit lower than the comparable Gamma. It would be interesting if it had slightly better features. In any case, I will stay tuned to what you have to offer next on the topic. Thank you!
I would keep checking ebay. For example, I have a Prince Neos 1000 with a Wise tension head and a Babolat Star 5 Electric with 360 rotation and swivel clamps. When I bought them I was teaching full time and stringing several racquets a day. Since the pandemic started I have strung just a few racquets, mostly my own. Babalot stopped making, selling and supporting stringing machines. So if my (4K) Star 5 breaks down I have no idea what to do. The tennis store I bought it at gave me a number to call. In my case I am going to hang onto them since maybe I will move to a better tennis area than the one I am in. I know a lot of people are in the same boat.
You will not go wrong getting the Alpha Revo 4000. I have mine for almost 2 years now. I’m very impressed with Alpha’s overall ease of use and its build quality. This machine is robust and very heavy. It keeps consistent tension through out (I calibrate every 10 racquet stringing with Gamma calibrator). I mount my machine to a heavy duty cart so I can move it freely around the house and for easy storage when not in use.

wow,this is just what I'm looking for. Just quick question,for this type of crank stringing machine, do I need to set a few lbs higher in order to get more precise tension? For example, if my goal tension is 52/50, do I need to set, say, 54/52 in the machine? Does that make any sense? Many thanks!

In place of a starting clamp, would a extra flying clamp do a similar good job to serve the same purpose?
When doing a badminton racket, how tight should the bracing be? Seems like the racket always pulls away in one direction or the other. Thanks

Awesome video, very well done. A couple of noob questions. 1) are you tensioning 3 strings at a time? 2) Would an Alpha Revo 4000 be a good crank machine to start with?

1) In this video I am tensioning every individual string by themselves, when I mention 3 strings it was for the fact that I do not tension more than 3 individual strings on one side of the frame to equalize pressure.
2) It is a good crank machine, however I would still say to go with something like a Gamma Six Point Fixed Clamp Drop Weight machine. They have this both in their Progression and X models, crank machines give non constant pull tension (which is fine just not typically what people look for) and have more chances of being imprecise due to human error when in operation.
@@racquetology Ignore the operator errors, you would still prefer the drop weight over crank machine?
I tried to type a really long explanation of how I view the differences, but it kind of dragged on and seemed like something that would best be articulated within a stringing video. I will make one describing the differences and showing some of the results I find on my different stringing machines. I own 5 different Lockouts (out of my total 12) so I think its a decent sample size. Sorry I'm not that good at typing and fully making it understandable and coherent, please stay tuned.

It’s a Gamma 5003 (2000 release). They have about 4 other versions of the Gamma 5003 with more upgrades. Mine is technically the original base version with some upgraded clamps. Hope this helps!

One of the best videos.. I have same tensioner missing gripper adjustment screw and spring. Gamma won’t reply my email. I’m guessing m3 socket head screw. Do you know what size of screw will fit?
Sorry I can’t tell you the size of the bolt until beginning of April. I’m currently at the Miami Open stringing but once I get back to my machine I will gladly send you the sizing info.
Can it Also be used for badminton stringing?
When calibrating I get some inconsistent tension. Most of the time I'll hit the target of 60lb but other times it will be 5-10lb less. Do you have any tips on how to be consistent with the crank/tensioning?
Yeah I have that problem too, what I've used recently to double check after a few racquets was one of those scales for luggage because I know those are very accurate vs the stupid gamma calibration tool. I was like 5 lbs low before I adjusted my lock-out Alpha stringer, but when I did it with the luggage scale it seemed to be more accurate out of the gate.
After you release the string from the machine, your clamp moves back a few millimeters. Is this normal? This could be losing tension. For example at 8:37
ok guys 2 questions, whats a good cheap restringer, and what would else would I need, and can this work for racquetball racquets?
Hey Emanuel, if you are planning to use it with racquetball I would stick with machines that have fixed swivel clamps for the fan patterns. My recommendation is to spend a bit more money then one of the super cheap ones and get the Gamma Progression II 602FC, it has a great base to work with and upgrades that can be made in the future for a cheap electric machine with a stand.

How much string i need to string a racket?
Is there a way not to correct the strings with the screwdriver so they are straight and do not fall down? I thought that there is a way I saw on tennis spin
Hello Jakub, there are some ways to minimize the amount of string straightening that you need to do after you finish. However I have never seen a method that was able to make them as straight as someone placing them in position after stringing. Also the tool that I was using is known as a straightening awl, blunt awl, or off set awl.
For a starter how much time would it take to string this ? I currently use gamma drop weight and it takes me 50 minutes
Most people can string a racquet faster on a crank machine then a drop weight. But there are other trade offs other then just speed, you can do a quality job on either but if you simply want to go faster the crank may be more unstable due to the human error involved in pulling tension at different speeds. I am still working on videos and some of these questions will be answered in more depth then.
I have drop-weight and crank machines. I’m way faster using the crank machine. I think the reason being drop-weight uses ‘floating clamps’ which slow me down whereas the crank machine uses fixed clamps which I think are more efficient.

With the 2 point support, my racquet move from side to side about 1/8 inch when pulling the cross. Is it normal or because I didn't tight down enough the racquet at first ?
Do you mean the whole racquet was sliding back and forth during the crosses being pulled or that the racquet compressed 1/8 on the sides?

Then yes I would tighten the mount more and make sure everything is in place properly. What type of machine are you using?

Ok I also own that machine, there are some different pieces that you can change for the throat if you have them try to make sure you have the proper one for what model tennis racquet you have. Happy Stringing!
I have a similar gamma machine where the shoulder supports move independent of each other. I have an issue where no matter what technique I use to start the mains, the 6 or 9 center support loses contact with the frame. If I don't retighten, it will be super loose by the time I get to the last few crosses. I've been stringing for 20 years and never encountered this. Any ideas or suggestions? I called Gamma and they didn't have any suggestions. Thx.
Does this happen with all frames or a specific frame?

@@racquetology hi... In sorry I didn't see your response from 2 weeks ago...I appreciate you following up. It happens on all frames. If you have the time, I'd be very appreciative of any help. There's a lot of "play" in the shoulder support arms, but Gamma said that is by design. I guess I could be mounting incorrectly, but I don't believe that to be the case. I even did a zoom call with Gamma and they didn't think I was causing the issue. Thanks!!!

When stringing the crosses can you use a flying clamp to hold the end of the string outside the hoop? thanks
Hmm perhaps I’m not understanding? Are you saying there is something different in comparison to the technique that I used in the video?
Sorry just looked at the comment again and realized I didn’t read it correctly. I personally would not recommend using a flying clamp it can be bulky and possibly block other grommets that you have to maneuver near.
