- Abandoned Santisi's IGA Marketplace Girard, OH. Locally owned by the same family for almost all of its lifetime, this store was a favorite among citizens and friends of Girard. Closed because of financial troubles trying to keep the store profitable.

There is no obligation and I'm not asking you to! All proceeds go toward expenses involved in travelling to film for you guys. I do not make a profit. Thank you! - Zábava
As soon as I saw the green I knew what that was and as excited as you were.
This is now a vintage arcade place, imagine that.
I remember coming to this store often when my aunt used to live out in Girard. I'm sad to see it go.
Same
Their slogan was " At IGA we go out of our way for you"
IGA’s are great stores. I actually shopped at that very location. It was sad to see it close.
Cool video that that door high up off the ground 😂😂😂 nice set of shopping carts
I lived half a block up Prospect Street from 1945 until I joined the Navy in 1958. The area where Santisi's is was a collection of about four little stores, Lozier;s Sabino's, a Dry Cleaners, and I think a hair salon.
Amazing that the lights are still on!
Nice office chair:) The customer service desk is nice. Eighties or early 1990's.
Always love when abandoned stores still retain vintage sticker, labels for the Services they provided.
Thank you for your tireless dedication to documenting the realities of the effects that mega-business and internet commerce are having on everyday America. Let's hope it continues to be the wake-up call we truly need. From your friends at Royal Media America and Royal Retail America!
Hm
I live down the street from there that used to be my favorite store but they closed it down GIRARD OHIO
Update. 2022..They're opening a pinball game room there. Looks like a huge undertaking.
Omfg Wallie, those Ames carts always follow you everywhere you go!!
i live here and its and arcade now probably gonna visit it soon since it just opened on the 1st of june
Bubbles would love to have those carts.
Your reaction to that high door was priceless!
Man u make me laugh Wallie!!! Always enjoy your videos...
The door at 8:09 reminds me of the Winchester mystery house in California.
That door was interesting. Speaking of interesting, there is a vent right next to it, so it may be an operations room or something
Mom and I shopped there when we were up that way from Pittsburgh.
I live in girard and I saw u making this video
Wallie amazing video.. Interesting to see that car just abandoned there wonder if the car was stolen and dumped there.. There is a Kmart i know Manny did that was in Dayton Ohio.. You should of took that cart to preserve it at your house
That first step is a whoopsdaisy.
Looks like that was a fun explore to do!
I have an IGA in Norlina that closed back in 2015. Not far from a Abandoned school that I went to. It located somewhere else in the same province.
I know this vid is 5 years old now, but any plans to revisit this place? The building found new life in June, it is now Past Times Arcade, which has tons of old video games and pinball machines.
I would always go to that store it got shutdown which sucks I live right down the street from there
Amazing as always bro awesome video amazing look inside I to have a abandoned iga
Very classy tribute to the family and the store. It's sad so many IGA supermarkets are being destroyed by evil, sterile greedy mega supermarkets like Giant Eagle (who should lay a nasty egg) and the evil WalMart. We had an IGA in the neighborning town of Bayonne for decades before it was bought out to build a Rite Aid strip mall. The locals were furious and the city told them go to the Shop Rite in the middle of town.
Oh if that teal shopping cart was in better condition. Why did they ahve to scrape off the Ames Logo? It wasn't bothering them.
You got the magic, heartfelt touch in your videos bud.
Two reasons this place closed: 1. Always WAY too cold inside, to the point you wouldn't even want to step foot inside. 2. A vast majority of the items were always expired, you would have to dig through the shelving to find something new.
I live in Canada and I love iga they have lovely store
There's a abandoned building that used to be a Kmart in my town and the lights are still on and it's been closed for at least 5 years now maybe longer
Tops was a dept STORE in Springfield mass cool find
great video sir. thank you
Forever, Ames will follow you where you go for the rest of your utube career.
7:50 the door at the top, strange!!!
You have the best abandoned stores CZcams channel, I like your style.
Before this was an IGA, it was a Sparkle Market. This building was built in the mid 70s I think, because Sparkles used to be on Liberty Street in Girard. That location has been used for several smaller businesses. They divided and renovated the inside of the original Sparkle Market into smaller stores. The north side was a liqure store and the south side became a dance studio. I have not been in there for years so I'm not sure what may still be operating in that building. The old IGA, was the "New" Sparkle Market when it first opened. I do not recall when the name was changed over. I wish they could do something to preserve that building. It's definitely a good size for another grocery store.
Also IIRC, when this store closed, many saw this as a hardship to the community. If I may add, thank you for your service to our country, Mr Santisi.
Charles Mandus shut the fuck up
John C ????
Charles Mandus what you don't I know how to cuss
I want to thank him for his service in WWII and to his community.
Charles Mandus well you didn't say he was in World War II was I wouldn't be cussing at you my deepest apologies
Wow that Ames cart find was crazy, but there was another Santisi’s IGA store in Austintown Ohio next to the old Kmart. It closed a few years prior to this one but it was completely remodeled into a new store.
There used to be a Topps in Boardman in the shopping centre behind Wendy's years ago.
Warren company Berk Enterprises bought the retail space in Girard in 2020. Sounds like that deal went through.
It did. Check out my comments above. It's now a pinball museum. One of the largest in the country.
Those doors are definitely for a plantroom which houses hvac equipment and refrigerator units for the cold produce fridges. I see this alot, it's quite common. Most of the time they have a steel I beam "RSJ" sticking out the top of the doors so they can hoist equipment in and out. They have a lifting hoist on a set of wheels that they can run along the beam to get stuff in and out.
a couple recommendations

Hi Wallie. I use to go there as a teenager with my Mom when it was a Sparkle market back in the early 80's. Nate checked out the Sparkle in Niles which is about ooohh 10 miles away. A lot of people relied on that store. Yes it is sad to see it go. Thanks for checking it out. I never knew it was closed till I seen your video. Thanks Again. Take Care my Friend.
Love your intro as always!
It's crazy that they leave the lights on, makes the store feel like it's still in business, which is just genuinely eerie
Did you know IGA stands for independent grocer association
I live close to there and that place was so freakin expensive
I would’ve taken the Ames cart anyway 😂
My town had an IGA in the 80s and it was convenient to get milk and eggs after my church softball game, but someone intentionally burned it down over 20 years ago. I don't remember the police catching the person. It was next to the car museum.
I have heard of Giant Eagle, but in Illinois and Iowa, we had Eagle grocery stores, based in the Quad cities. There was one in my hometown of Ottawa and other surrounding communities, except Streator. We used to shop there all of the time when I was young. They went bankrupt in 2003. At the time, Walmart didn't have any supercenters in the area. But, at least in Ottawa, there was a Krogers, which the Eagle turned into, now there are two Krogers in Ottawa, a population of about 20,000. There is also a place called Handy Foods which is an IGA store. Now Ottawa, Streator, and Peru have Walmarts. There is one Eagle grocery store left in Dubuque Iowa, but I think somebody bought the name to keep it alive. Great video. That up in the air door was funny.
We used to have an IGA in Wooster (Young's) - my mother worked in their bakery in the '80s. It closed around '94 or '95, was used as a Heilig-Myers until around 2000, and it's now a Save-A-Lot. The only IGA left in Wayne County that I know of is in Rittman - been there a few times.
Kevin Baker We use to have a save a lot but they closed it for aces hardware store to make it bigger and btw I use to call save a lot..save a slut.store..
Good collection of shopping trolleys.
Timothy Simpkins Yeah
yay! a iga
There was 2 food lion carts
Awesome video thank you
Another great video Wallie!!!If that Ames cart still had the lettering that would have been a gem. Wonder why that door was so high. Probably would have been interesting to see the inside. Anyways keep up the great work!!!!
Tops used to be in Northeastern Ohio, but they closed in the 90’s-or at least the Tops near me did. We still have IGA up here, though.
The old Tops in Niles is now a Gabe's and the one in Warren is still empty. Looks as nice as the day it closed though.
I used to ship there when I was 13
The building is scary& creepy
Yeah, especially the flickering pot lights that have been doing the flickering for a year and a half, well probably now,3 and a half years!!! 👻
Wallie they also had a store in austintown oh which they sold in 2012. Tops was also in Girard/niles about 4 miles up the road they closed in 2008.
IGA that was Great Supermarket to bad
Its funny how the Ames carts just randomly show up at different places lol
Way cool. Those local stores are quite fun to check out
Wallie, Your videos are high quality. Your content is even higher quality. Your intro on the other hand needs an HD update. Keep up the good work.
The second window that you checked out with the blinds with the counting room where we cashiers would get our drawers ready to go out to register. The door with the small window next to it was the cashier's office where the safe and stuff was held. The small "Santisi's sign you walked up to next to the main doors used to be a corral where the stock clerks and bag boys would put the shopping carts at the end of the night. Crazy that the owner's son auctioned off just about everything in the store. Never seen it so empty before! I'm used to seeing it full lol!
I'm.so surprised the carts was there and intact. Maybe because it was hidden there. Please get me the green one. Please ship it to NY. Lol...
they have alot of lights on in there, i thought i be on night light power but thats alot of light on
Another great video
Hmmm, wonder if this store was owned by a long lost family member.
Great video
There used to be a Tops store on root 422 in Niles. I think Gabe’s department store is in the building now
Les W yea, that’s where Gabe’s is now there was also one on Elm Road in Warren but it is still completely abandoned.
Tops used to be in Indiana too. I remember going there as a kid. I enjoyed your Urban exploration. I am sad for this one though. It shows how the little guy is getting squeezed out.
Cool store :)
My local iga’s are still open
Some at the gas and electric companies just dont turn it off and there is no-one to bill so they leave on and charge the rest of us. Sometimes the power is on for decades
Update on the old IGA Grocery Store. I found on CZcams that "Past Times Arcade" is moving into this facility. There's an official announcement that was posted not too long ago. It will have all sorts of games, plus maybe a food section for snacks and other sorts. Those of you that live in Girard Ohio can check out the link below about the "New" Past Times Arcade" facility. I'm so glad that this building is being used for something well worth preserving technology history.

Cool video 😎
wallie and are you going back to the abandoned sears in rossparkmall if its not something new there
cool video 👍👍 thanks
Citizens of Girard wish another grocery company would buy that place and put another business in there. But the owner's sons are asking too much for it. Plus the building needs a lot of repairs made. So companies feel it isn't even worth it
Nice one man
awesome
Did u eat at jib jab down the st, its so good
WallieB26 I had to give up my orange Phar-mor cart when I left Pittsburgh:(
It's now Past Times Arcade
Let me know if you find yourself in the Minnesota region, I can give you some insight on some abandoned places to visit!

Liked your video but had a question I hope you can help me with I was looking for your video of a building I see you filmed at the beginning of this video at 0:30 please let me know where that building is thanks
Good video
The cart with the broken handle looks like a Farmer Jack shopping cart
Dude! I live block from there! Used to go there all the time. It finally got bought like a couple weeks ago. Don't know by who or what they plan to do but we definitely need a neighborhood grocery store.
thats an everyday no prices lol
Looks like wallies on a nother adventure today!
why is a Ames cart at a IGA? i knew it was a Ames cart as soon as i saw the green cart.
We had at least 2 Tops locations here in Trumbull County and they shut down about 10 years ago
Is the old IGA build for lease in Girard?
Great video Wallie!! Can you do a video on the abandoned Kmart in Fremont, Ohio? I saw it as I was driving through there to go home and thought you might want to check it out.
Manny Quacioua I checked it out and I really enjoyed it!! Hopefully Wallie is able to do a video about this Kmart too!!
Helluva trek up the Ohio turnpike for Wallie an hour for me and I live in Sheffield Lake.Going to find Mannys videos now🔎
There is a abandoned coal tipple with an attached mine down the street and off the bridge from there btw.
