    Finally! It's so hard to find a specific space game between 90/00 when you only remember vaguely the UI...

    The engine is incredibly smooth, but, and I know this will ruffle feathers, to me it doesn't have the same cool, dusty space frontier vibe I loved so much from the first game.

      @reloaded_  Před rokem +4

      Same feeling, also the game is completely unrelated to the Wing Commander universe and that doesn’t help atmosphere-wise. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great game in its own right, but it’s no Privateer.

      I was really young like 11 or 12 when this came out but I remember it feeling really foreign to me I got it because I was really into Wing Commander 3 and 4 at the time but it was nothing like that

      @@reloaded_ As far as I know, the "Privateer" in the game's title was an afterthought for marketing reasons.
      Fun fact:
      WC: Arena's Star*Soldier manual retconned "The Darkening" as a fictional story written by an author within the WC Universe called Rein Ertrobs, an anagram or Erin Roberts obviously.

      The (sort of) irony is that the story and game world interactions, and even gameplay in Privateer 2 are more reminiscent of the Frontier games.
      It's just that the aesthetic in Privateer is kinda closer to Frontier than it is to Privateer 2.

    • @Aquascape_Dreaming
      @Aquascape_Dreaming Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@reloaded_totally agree, which is a shame because Privateer 2 could have been released in its own universe under a different name and been very successful. It's a mild outrage that it wasn't originally made to be set in the Wing Commander universe. They loosely tied it in after the fact, but the glaring inconsistencies were too apparent to dismiss.
      Can't help but feel like we fans of the Wing Commander and Privateer universe got shortchanged, somehow.

      You're welcome, and thanks for watching.
      Yep, it's a great game, but it's funny to think that, when I bought it as a kid, I really hated it... because it wasn't the real Privateer sequel that I expected.
      I haven't touched it for years before giving it a second chance, and appreciating it for what it is.

    There's a bug you can exploit to get money very easy, by changing several hundred tons of something cheap into the same amount of tons of something expensive.
    1. Get a freighter and buy 1 ton of something to occupy the first cargo bay
    2. Buy many tons of something cheap to fill the second cargo bay.
    3. Sell the first cargo bay to empty it
    4. Go into the Bulletin Board and change your freighter (simply hire a bigger one or the same one again. Cargo space must be sufficient).
    5. Go back into commodities and buy something very expensive. Your second bay which was previously filled with many tons of something cheap is now filled the same amount of tons but of that expensive commodity.
    6. Sell and repeat
    By rearranging the cargo bays when switching freighters, the game only sets the commodity of a bay to "none" but it doesn't set the amount of tons back to 0. So you basically still have several hundred tons of "none" in your second cargo bay. If you buy something to fill that bay again, it changes the commodity and adds the bought tons to the existing ones.

    Faldari Mk2? That ship is a DEATHTRAP! Better fly a Heretic, better price, better speed, WAY better hitbox.
    Don't get me wrong, the Faldari looks really nice, but asna fighter, it SUCKS!

    • @reloaded_
      @reloaded_  Před rokem +2

      I actually like the Faldari Mk II, I think it has a nice cost-performance ratio, and due to its slimmer shape/geometry the enemy AI will miss quite a few shots, especially during frontal attacks.

    • @larnregis
      @larnregis Před rokem +2

      Correct, the Faldari MK2 is way better than the Heretic. The very short and slim hitbox makes it almost impossible for enemy ships to hit you, which more than compensates the slightly worse shields.
      With the MK2 you can even slip through 2 consecutive shots (including dual turret lasers). When lasers move, they jump locations and the enemy laser shot may simply appear before your ship and its next movement step will make it appear behind you.
      The Jincilla Skull or Aurora also have such small hitboxes, why they also work very well, despite their rather weak shields.
      The Heretics hitbox is pretty big. Yes it's flat, but still very long and wide. So any shots coming from top/bottom will most likely hit.
      IIRC the MK2 hitbox excludes the wings and only includes the cockpit. The Heretic hitbox is the entire ship including the wide wings.

    • @sim.frischh9781
      @sim.frischh9781 Před rokem

      @@reloaded_ But the Heretic is faster, in fact it's one of the fastest ships in the entire game, only one or two (playable) fighters are faster.
      And still counts as a meduim ship, not sure whether that has any practical use though.
      The one big advantage of both Faldaris is their low repair cost, which certainly is an important factor.

    • @sim.frischh9781
      @sim.frischh9781 Před rokem

      @@larnregis the Duress is also tiny, but sadly only has two gun hardpoints.
      And at the end you usually fly either Danrik or the Freij Prototype.
      I usually went Straith to Shaman to Skecis Mk2 to Heretic to either Danrik or the Freij Mk2.
      The Drakkar also is good someone told me, but i haven't tested it as of now.

    • @larnregis
      @larnregis Před rokem

      @@sim.frischh9781 I changed my Duress and gave it a 3rd gun slot (Priv2Editor on wcnews can edit a bit of the exe). With 3 Kraven MKIV it rocks. Fast speed, strong shields, small hitbox, a nice little ship.
      I don't like the Danrik since she costs a lot while having far weaker shields and armor than the Freij MK2. Its narrower gun slot positions are nice though.
      Drakkar is too big for my taste and once the strong shields are down, it has almost no armor.
