As a French Catholic, I've always dreamed of going to Paris and visit the Cathedral of Notre Dame. And if i do go, I'll attend the daily mass. And enjoy Paris also.

I can't believe we are currently watching this beautiful lady burn beyond all recognition. It will never be the same again. I'm so grateful I got to see it in all its splendor many years ago.
Already went, it was a pleasure trip, I loved it and want to go back.
I got to go inside of this historic church at the end of April 1980.
I am sad to see the devastation caused by this fire yesterday. I am thankful that many parts have survived. Accidents are part of life.
God is in control. Thankfully no lives were lost, Praise God.
Many people are now donating money to help rebuild what was damaged. This money would not have come had it not been for the fire. The church was under renovation, but only about 1/3 of the money needed was raised.
It is amazing that something good could come out of these ashes, but maybe it will. God willing it will.

It's very sad that the spire is gone but geez people, it's not like its a pile of ashes yet people are on here saying its gone. It's been renovated before and it will be again. There is still so much intact thanks to the efforts of fire fighters

I don't understand why I'm so obsessed with Notre Dame. But, if I ever go to see it, I can picture myself standing in front of it and crying. I don't know why, but I can see the same with The Opera House as well.

It's not completely gone. The Facade and even the stained glass is intact, Very brave fireman were saving the bells. Amazing....

And it's now on fire.
So tragic seeing all of this breathtaking, icon destroyed. The sheer scale of the treasures lost is most heart wrenching. Before the fire is out it's easy to see many of the stone walls will need to be torn down and rebuilt because time has not been kind to the stone itself. The soft stone was saturated with moisture from the elements. The heat from the fire is causing the stone to explode as the moisture expands rapidly. Before the night is over walls may fall without the support if the roof keeping them from falling inward.
Luckily the fire crews have, at this point kept the fire from destroying the bell towers. There is fire and water damage to the towers. However they've been saved from total destruction. We may still hear some of the bells ring Easter Sunday. It will be a blessing if the bells toll Sunday.
Thankfully many priceless treasures were saved thanks to the help of hundreds of first responders, the faithful, tourists, and passersby running in and out of the building as fire raged above them.
As of now 11:30PM local time the fire is close to be contained. Fire crews are in the towers tending to hot spots and stopping flying embers from catching the timbers alight.
My heart goes out to all, like me, whom cherish Notre Dame not just as a religious icon, but as a stunning example of seemingly impossible architecture shrouded in the rich history of France and the world beyond. Let's us all do what we can to rebuild this iconic beacon of Paris for future generations to admire and learn the role Notre Dame has played in over 850 years of history. The mighty can fall. The people can help the mighty rise up once more.

These pictures don't do that beautiful cathedral justice...once you see it before you it takes our breath away. The outside was so detailed I was so fascinated by those gargoyles which you can see clearly if you climb the tower. To me it was absolutely unbelievable that this fire was real and I was watching it on the internet however, as their president said 'It will be rebuilt!'.
Was supposed to see it next month. Not anymore. 😞
