Overkill are an OG thrash band worth checking out - particularly songs of their incredible 1989 album The years of decay: Time to Kill, Elimination, I Hate (amazing guitar tone on these songs produced by Terry Date who would go on after to produce Pantera’s 90’s albums)

  • @reedallen4613
    @reedallen4613 Před rokem +1

I really like how this singer sounds SO similar to Bobby 'Blitz' Elsworth from Overkill.
And from what I remember reading in several online articles the band's (Exodus) management AND record label had to get special permission to shoot the video 'on location' on an ACTUAL aircraft carrier. Granted, it WAS a decommissioned aircraft carrier, but it was STILL Naval property.
And the song, including the title 'War is my Shepherd' is essentially about military personnel. They are TRAINED for combat, and WAR, and thus go where the combat (WAR) is. A PERFECT example is part of one line that says "praise the lord and pass the ammunition".
But that's just my opinion about the song's meaning anyway.
But regardless, great reaction video as always dudes.

I saw Exodus live back in 91. They were playing with Wehrmacht and Suicidal Tendencies. Unfortunately the concert was at the Memorial Coliseum, where they were used to hosting Michael Jackson concerts and basketball games, so (after forcing us to stay in our seats through Wehrmacht) when we all started moshing they thought that we were rioting and bouncers started chucking kids out one after another. I made it until the 2nd song from Exodus before getting booted out. By the end of the night there were riot cops on the rooftops and all around the building... and I never did get to see ST.

Exodus is a great OG Thrash band, but not my favorite. I much prefer Overkill over Exodus, but that's just a matter of personal taste. Some other OG Thrash bands that should be considered in the Big 4 are TestAmenT, Demolition Hammer, Sodom (Germany), Kreator (Germany), Sepultura (Brazil), Mortal Sin (Australia), and Hobbs Angel Of Death (Australia).
The Big 4 is American bands only, but there was some amazing Thrash bands abroad in those days that should definitely be recognized at the same level as the Big 4.

Bonded by Blood (Exodus first album) was supposed to me released before Kill' Em All (Metallica's first album), but there were problems with the record company so it was released not much longer than Kill Em All. Greetings gentz! always damn skippy to see one of my favorite genres in my rappers react alerts.. so I'm going to feed the algorithm here a bit by making a comment and drop a little history because I was around for this particular era. Exodus are definitely OG, especially considering that Kirk Hammett from Metallica co-founded Exodus before he was in Metallica, and the vocalist here... Steve "Zetro" Souza was the vocalist for Testament early in their career when they were called The Legacy. Sousa replaced original Exodus vocalist Paul Baloff (R.I.P.) on the second Exodus LP "Peasures of the flesh." I've seen Exodus a bunch of times back in the day and they never cease to deliver... now that thrash is starting to Boom again, with young bands playing in that old school style, Exodus has had a whole resurgence and they've been putting out killer records non-stop for 35 years now. You are going to get dick- smacked with requests for a song called "The Toxic Waltz" here in the comment section and with very good reason. it is a thrash metal anthem highly recommended. cheers gents and have a great day.

Everybody always talks about the Big 4, right? ANTHRAX, METALLICA, MEGADETH, and SLAYER, right? Well, to be honest, it should have been the Big 10. The other 6 include EXODUS, OVERKILL, TESTAMENT, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, and DEATH ANGEL. The whole Big 4 thing came about because of how early those bands got started in the Thrash Metal arena. All of them, but Megadeth got started in 1983, to then which they debuted in 1985. But then both Exodus and OverKill debuted in 1985 as well. Flotsam and Nuclear Assault came out in 1986. Then Testament and Death Angel came out in 1987. So you're only looking at a period of like 4 years (1983 to 1987) where the entire 80s Thrash Metal scene was pretty much set. There were a few other bands that popped up here and there, but none as big as those 10. And I would classify those as big because of the amount of Merch they had. If you didn't have Merch, nobody but the die-hard Metal fans had ever heard of you. Like there's this one band, whose album cover I kinda remember, but I can't recall who it was. I wanna say ASSASSIN, but in couldn't swear to to. But anyway...like yeah, in those days, where people wore Merch T-shirts like crazy...I mean you could not walk the halls of your school without seeing dozens of band T-shirts. If 80s fashion was anything, it was band T-shirts. All the crazy spandex and neon-colored shit you see now for 80s Night is total BS. Nobody wore that shit back then. At least not in my small town. Maybe in Hip coastal cities like L.A. or S.F. but not in the Midwest. But anyway...the first wave of Thrash was very cool. It was the anti-culture of the time. As it was a bit more extreme than the Hair or Glam Metal stuff that dominated the total culture, which helped with the collapse of the Rock scene in 1992 with the onset of Grunge. God I hated that shit. Thank God it only lasted about 5 or 6 years at most. NuMetal hit the scene in like 1998, 99...but Power Metal came back hard around 1997. Then Thrash Metal had a revival in 2007. Never thought I'd see a vibrant heavy metal scene again after the GAWD AWFUL DECADE of the 90s. MY God did I hate the Music industry in the 90s. They replaced cool and fun music with boring, cheesey mellow music.

Past wars in ancient times were generally speaking, over different religious views. All the great empires/world leaders like ancient Greece, Rome, Babylon, etc... were divided in to two opposing parties within their own empires/countries and they eventually fell to the ground due to all these leading events. As people say history really does repeat itself. There are other countries in recent history that met the same conclusion as these ancient civilizations did.

Exodus should have damn well been in there their record company screwed around releasing their album it would have been out before Metallica's and Kirk Hammett was the guitar player and Exodus and then went to Slayer

Bonded by blood was delayed for sure but kill ‘em all and ride the lighting were both recorded before bonded by blood was ever recorded so theirs no way it would have came out first. Great bands either way

I love Kirk hammet, but he has not made riffs and solos this fire and that go this hard in a long time, especially not when this album came out in 2004. Also Kirk was never on an exodus album

Hardcore is Hardcore Punk rock, thrash bands don't consider themselves punk rock. Thrash and Hardcore Punk rock is called crossover. With bands like DRI, Cryptic Slaughter, SOD, and the Crumbsuckers🤘

yeah, Metallica and Exodus were basically the same time. As far as being formed, I think Exodus came one year before Metallica

Whenever someone defends the fact that Metallica has gotten slower and watered down over the years, by saying: "Well, they're a lot older now", I only have one word for them: Fu*king EXODUS!! They've been at it just as long. In fact, Kirk Hammett was a founding member of Exodus before he quit to join Metallica.

The Real Thrash Metal Big Four is 1 - Slayer; 2 - Testament; 3 - Exodus; 4 - Overkill /,,/ Metallica is to much pop now a days and Anthrax sucks, I don't like them.
P.S.: Listen to Clickbait from Exodus!

Kirk Hammett started Exodus in 1979 and left the band and joined Metallica in 1983 before Exodus released their first album Bonded By Blood in 1985 so Kirk Hammett isn't on any of Exodus's albums. Even though Exodus didn't release their first album until 1985 they were around as a band when Metallica and Slayer were first starting out. The big four should be the big five and include Exodus. some people say that Testament should be included, but they were formed in 1987 so they weren't around when thrash was first coming out.
