Last week I wax coated underneath my new Ford Ranger. Did it just a day after driving it home from the supplying dealer, so no dirt. Firstly fitted grommets and stop-ends on all holes in chassis sides facing the wheels and then waxed the inside of the box section before thoroughly coating all surfaces. I used aerosol product from a company called Bilt Hamber for ease and convenience of application. Also used a Shutz gun off an air compressor to blow some Dinitrol wax up to hard to reach places like the rear deck floor. I was surprised that Ford had factory waxed inside the sills and door panels. A full wax is a £250 factory order option but mine did not have this as I only waited about a month for a dealer’s stock order.
Waxing is well worth doing because only today I was under my 2014 other Ranger [to replace a faulty evaporator in the exhaust], which I treated with exactly the same product and care when it was new, nine years ago. Never looked at it since and it gets covered in cowshït all year round and salted roads for three months of the year. It still looks great but could do with a spray of light oil to reactivate the wax about now. I know of other Rangers that did not get waxed that were red with rust by their third birthday, so yes, it is certainly worth it if intending to keep the vehicle for a few years. It cost me less than £100 for a vehicle that is actually bigger than a Grenadier with a much longer wheelbase, counting the six aerosol cans [only five used], a tube of flexible rubber adhesive for capping some of the holes where the eBay grommets were a loose fit. Had the Dinitrol wax in stock so no extra cost there and used very little.
I also waxed the unseen side of body seams, beams and metal body parts under the bonnet and inside the tailgate and bonnet leading edges using the long tube with spray nozzles that came with the Bilt Hamber heavy duty wax aerosols.

Good morning from South Carolina. Just wanted to say thank you very much for these videos. I watch them all and find them very interesting. Todays video was great, my first close look at the underbody after solid usage. I look forward to see how Loki holds up over time. Here in the U.S. we will only have the BMW gasoline power train available to us, no diesel (will this be the weak link over time?). My wife and I have owned many BMW’s over the years (and BMW motorcycles). Although the BMW power trains are typically very good and last a long time, it’s all the service/constant maintenance issues that concern me. I am hopeful materials have improved. BMW is the only vehicle brand I have experienced oil leaks from before 40,000 miles (and yes we are talking brand new vehicles). I wish Toyota powertrains were selected for the grenadier 🤷🏼‍♂️. Anyways, I will stop rambling, thank you again for the great videos. Looking forward to the continued series.

May I ask which engines you used? my previous bmw engines perfomed fine...yes they start "sweating" a bit but in my case at higher mileages. I hope they will be reliable enough for this vehicle 🤞🏻

      @@grenadier_exploring let’s hope 🤞
Sure…I am 58 and owned my 1st BMW in 1982. 320i, silver, black Recaro seats and gold and silver BBS wheels. She was a beauty I had zero issues with that vehicle for the time I owned it. My second BMW was a 318i, also zero issues in terms of leaks and such. Then in 2005 we purchased a new 325XI for my wife, fantastic vehicle and that’s when we started having oil leaking issues…same for my 2008 535i, my 2010 535XI wagon, 2011 335is. They all leaked oil from the oil filter housing, valve cover and eventually the bottom oil pan. The worst one was my wife’s (purchased new), 2013 (last year of that model), 135IS M sport convertible. At 38,000 miles it started leaking oil 🤦🏻‍♂️. We also have a lot of electronic and electric gremlins, starters, failed lighting issues with computers, but overall fantastic cars just a ton of expense and maintenance.

@@grenadier_exploring The result of the tax ( like in DK and NL) vehicles will be driven longer. Depending on economy and income perhaps lead to Cuba effects. I ordered a Fieldmaster with Rough Package, 2nd Battery, etc in Mushroom. I left out the rails. I consider the vehicle as "multipurpose", in particular towing and forest but with some comfort. What will be added is an aux heater. This option should have been on the options list from day one. The majority of daily ride however is performed by a normal car.
