    I find it incredible that you actually live in a part of the world where you can find such historically significant marvels that are still available with just hopping on a bicycle for a ride. You appear to be completely surrounded by a huge world class museum. It is amazing and an absolute blessing that your country takes such great measures in order to preserve its history. I really enjoy the journeys that you share with us. Take care and keep your enthusiasm for life my friend. See you on the next one.

      I dunno Martin, there's a connection to the past in these old places as people from the past would have congregated there but all that happened in days gone by. I would love to experience something esoteric but can't say I ever have but I do show due reverence and respect. Love the old places thats for sure:)

    Great video Sandy, love the views of all the Thatch roofs. they still amaze me that there are still so many in use today. In all of Berkshire County here in Western Ma. New England. I've only seen one Thatch roof installation. Our winters here are really severe. we can see snow falls of 2ft or omore and cold down to -40F is not uncommon. So between the snow loads and the cold. I fear Thatch roofs lives would be short lived. thanks again for great video always a pleasure to see them and you. 73 agn Sandy. and we'll CUDTL OM???? de Ellis WA1RKS

    I appreciate you're sojourns into the history of the deep south and its pagan past. Being from the northern regions of Caledonia, we were but savages at the time. Yes that area of England must have been a paradise for early human settlement, so fertile and no doubt full of game.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Před 3 měsíci

      I doubt there were many savage's in the past, thats just a term that was hoisted upon some folk when a new regime took over. Humans are humans no matter where in the world they come from and adapt to that environment just to survive. I think thats how it is? There would have been a lot more forest, deer, wolves and bear in the UK many years ago

    Just a note on health and getting older sandy, from time to time we are carrying many viruses and are bodies can take a few weeks to shrug them off especially as we get older.
    During these periods it can seem are health is in permanent decline but energy levels will return but obviously age related stuff has to be considered and we won't have the same energy we once had..
    My own opinion is im in my 60s and have never been in hospital or been vaccinated, from time to time energy levels drop and rather than taking medication and plowing on i take it easy giving my body time to fight any infections ..
    Take it easy sandy and only do what you can when you can.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Take vitamin D and you'll be fine Frank. Most people are low on vit D. I shall do what I do til I drop and then I will stop. As for energy levels I can't say I've noticed much decline from my 20s til now in my 60's, I can still cycle up every hill today that I ever did 40 years ago. Viruses are everywhere and they always have been. My goal is just to remain fit and active not drink in excess and eat a sensible diet and to have as much fun as possible

    Love to see the broad swathes of yellow when the oilseed rape is in flower. Fascinating feature that barrow as they usually seem to be in very open and exposed sites, so to see one plonked in a settlement, or at least a settlement has grown around it, maybe someone out there in the know can give some reasoning why

    Shame the churches have to lock. I guess there’s those that will and those that won’t. I visited a solitary standing stone recently and there were coins and other small items of value tucked into the various cracks and crevices… why would one touch even those things? They are someone else’s acts of worship, reverence, whatever. Sacred, as far as I am concerned, in the rudest form of the word.

  • @geoffw8565

    Great video Sandy. Shame the church was locked as I do like a bit of a Saxon/Norman church. Maybe another time ? Beautiful countryside we are blessed with in the UK and we must fight to protect and preserve it from those that would be quite happy to bulldoze a church or any ancient/historical site so they can bung up a few hundred properties for profit.

    Nice one Sandy, next time I'm down South I'm going to visit some of the burial mounds and long barrows featured in some of you videos. We have standing stones and cup and ring sites up here, which are also interesting to visit to immerse yourself in the past. I think you have made a great choice in the Planet X On-One Bootzipper, which you show is a geat adventure bike without the need for suspension forks which are a pain when climbing, unless you have remote lockouts. I'm interested to know if you dry the bike with warm air after cleaning it, as I'm concerned parts still go rusty unless you do? As always thanks for taking the trouble to film and take us along on your adventures ATB Big Dave Scotland

      Hi Dave, I store the bikes in my conservatory at home which keeps them warm but the motorcycles I do have a drier and always dry them off before parking them up in the unheated garage

      I know where it is and vaguely recall seeing it once but never made a point to film it. I shall have to go back, there is some nice riding along Red lane and Whiteshard bottom all the way to Aldbourne, and then the high path along the bridle way back to Swindon would make a lovely circular ride.One for the future:)

    Did you have any joy getting a helmet waterproof cover sandy? Are you seeing a lot of fly tipping around your way? There is a lot of garden waste being dumped in ditches then people wonder why roads flood, we altogether a lot of sofas for some reason people think wildlife need something to sit on.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Lewis No I've not looked for a helmet cover. TBH I think it would restrict air flow. I don't really mind getting my head wet whilst cycling.
      As for fly tipping, there's a lot of it happening at the moment!

    Sandy, no disrespect, but, although you seem to have been prevented from entering a building reputed to be a house of God, bear in mind that the bible says, 'God does not dwell in a house made by hands.' 'The Creator made the earth we walk on, and the sky above and the water and all that is in them. Jesus came to lead us away from religion and back to where we should be, in a personal relationship with God Himself. He told his disciples, 'Behold, the kingdom of God is within you.'
    That was a lovely video. Thank you for taking us along. A lot of history there in the UK. Canada is old too, but it was preserved by the Indigenous into such a natural environment that one English Explorer called Canada, 'A pristine wilderness.' That is high praise for the First Peoples of North America; they lived thousands of years here and did not pollute the land. The civilized Europeans did that.

    Hello Sandy, great vid and I like the route! Question on your BootZipper, I recall you had a problem with yours and had to return it, can I ask what the problem was? I ask as I have a 2 1/2 year old one and the Bottom Bracket (BB) has just gone which I’m busy replacing and wondered what your issue was?

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Frame was the wrong size for me. Apart from that the bike has been bulletproof and has over 3K miles of quite hard riding on it.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Před 3 měsíci

      ps Sram bottom brackets are known to fail, I watch Keep smiling adventures and he had a bottom bracket fail. Fairly easy replacement though and it is a wearable item

      @@WiltshireMan - so it seems, they knocked off a few quid so I cannot complain and will have the correct tool in a few days as well. The reason they gave for using that BB is weight though I suspect it’s cost as it’s not and never will be a light weight bike. It rides well though and, BB apart, it’s been bullet proof… just wish they’d fit a decent BB like my Thorn or Spa that have lasted years! Thank you for the response and keep having fun!

    That church door is locked but the Kingdom of God is still open to all who will come. Jesus said “ I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except thru Me.” John 14:6. Jesus is the Way. The door is open to you

    Very good as ever - though I joined originally way back due to the cw ops . . .
    I see you say 28 miles, but noticing the increase in passing shots I guess you must be doing nearer 35 miles and it must take half as much time again with all the ones which don't make it into the final cut.
    It all looks so easy - which is great, but I think about the set up and extra pedaling everytime I see you zoom past . .
    Of course from my point of view its worth every ounce of your effort - but it shouldn't be completely "un-sung" because it not right to just take it all for granted.
    I'll shut up for another 4 years now - so I hope in the meantime you can keep going out, and also enjoying it all as much as your subscribers do.

      Another inspiring one, Sandy! I so wish I lived somewhere that had all those byways and bridle ways available but all the old paths here in the US are mostly gone or paved over and swamped with traffic. People are too busy with their commute or paying attention to their phone whilst driving and it makes it too dangerous to ride on most roads these days. In past years I would ride as much as 50 miles in a day, but no more. As far as the church being locked, they probably wouldn’t let me in anyway as I prefer the pagan mound😂
