VIRGIN AMERICA Airbus A321NEO (now Alaska Airlines) // Rejected Takeoff Test, Takeoff & Landing

- On April 7, 2017 the first Virgin America Airbus A321neo performed its maiden flight with takeoff and landing at Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport. This was a milestone in aviation history as this was the first A321neo delivered to a customer. It is powered by two CFM International LEAP-1A engines.
This video features the RTO (rejected take off test), the takeoff and the landing. Please excuse the bad sound quality caused by the stormy weather conditions.
Virgin America took delivery of this aircraft on 20th April 2017. It is now registered as N921VA.
SInce the purchase of Virgin America by Alaska Air Group, the aircraft is now wearing the Alaska Airlines livery.

Klasse Video. Da warst du ja wieder bei einem historischen Ereignis in vorderster Reihe dabei. Ab 1:55 und 2:07 kann man auch gut sehen, dass es an dem Tag sehr windig war. Daumen klar nach oben für diese tolle Dokumentation. Gruß Unimedien.

quick question...why is your company still taking new aircraft in light of the merger with alaska airlines and rumors saying your brand will be discontinued by 2019...alaska also has an all boeing 737 fleet and likely will stay that way in the near future...

These first two we receive will be in Virgin America livery, the three we receive later in the year I believe are planned to be in Alaska colors.

These first two A3210 NEO aircraft were planned in the Virgin America colors already. The merger plan was to grow so this fits right in. The airline will be Alaska Airlines when we obtain our single operating certificate, any planes received after these first two 321 NEOs will more than likely be in the Alaska livery. Our 319 and 320s will be around until at least 2020, and the 321 NEO being a truly revolutionary could change minds about being all Boeing. Thanks for asking!

Danke Dir! Es ist super, dass der erste A321neo jetzt bald ausgeliefert wird. Für Air Astana steht auch schon einer in Finkenwerder. Es dürfte also interessant bleiben in nächster Zeit. War nur schade, dass das Wetter mal wieder so mies war - der Wind war schon brutal. Aber da muss man dann bei solchen Highlights mal durch. Gruss aus Hamburg :)

Wurden die nicht von Alaska Airlines gekauft und trotzdem noch Virgin America als Livery? Wow, was für ein Takeoff .... sieht wirklich beeindruckend aus.
Danke fürs Anschauen! Virgin America soll als Marke wohl erst 2019 verschwinden. Aber die haben ja 10 Stück bestellt. Gut möglich, dass einige davon dann schon in der Alaska Livery ausgeliefert werden. Der hier wird wohl irgendwann umlackiert werden.

Da ist dir wieder ein schöner Fang gelungen. War bestimmt kalt und zugig da aufm Turm bei dem Wind. Der Start sieht steiler aus als sonst oder?
Vielen Dank! War wirklich verdammt ungemütlich da gestern - hat wenig Spaß gemacht mit dem Wind. Der Takeoff sah mir auch ziemlich steil aus, die wollten wohl schnell raus aus den bodennahen Böen.

Ich danke Dir! Meine Spekulation, dass der gestern fliegt, war ja zum Glück aufgegangen. Aber die Bedingungen zum Filmen waren mal wieder miserabel - extremer Wind auf dem Turm und auf dem Hügel. Aber dabei sein ist ja bekanntlich alles :-) Gruß aus Hamburg!

I think it is very likely that they will be painted in Alaska livery sooner or later.

It is a common procedure to land without reversers on these test flights. It is done for testing purposes.

Isn't Virgin America merging with Alaska? Why don't they paint in Alaska Airlines color to avoid having to re-paint the plane.
As far as I know Virgin America is already part of the Alaska Air Group. But the Virgin America brand is continued as an independent brand until it will be retired sometime in 2019.
