The Norway Campaign 1940

- In 1940, as typical history videos go, Germany simply invaded Norway, but not much context is given. In reality, the Norway campaign has a much more interesting story. What was the actual reason for the German invasion? Why does no one mention that it was in fact the British who broke Norwegian neutrality first? Why did Winston Churchill become Prime Minister after the failure of Norway despite it being his idea? How did Germany win in Norway in 1940? Find out all this and more in this video.

Churchill never had the makings of a varsity athlete
Odd bloke!
But he was on the drinking team 🍾
Ay Tone, if they was death camps why so many broads havin' babies?
He was quite the fat boy.
I LEAVE DA SOVIET JUINION AN COME BACK TO DISH?!
As a Norwegian I feel like the Brits exploited us big league. I live in one of the mining towns that were a big objective during the war, and the town elders have only good things to say about the Germans. One story I was told involved a Wehrmacht unit leaving their horse carriage outside of a shop or café and they let some local kids play on the carriage while it was put. Sadly an accident happened where a little girl fell off either the carriage or the horse and she passed away, leaving one soldier a sobbing mess. That one story helped humanize the Wehrmacht to my teenage self.
From all I know the British never had scruples to use others and exploit them and to divide and conquer, whether in North America, in India or Africa - they came and destroyed. And they gained power and wealth but never the hearts of people.
The incident you describe adds to what I found out about the reputation of German soldiers in the past - in many places, in Ukraine, in North Africa and elsewhere people witnessed them as kind and fair in contrast to the "liberators" that came after them, Americans, British and Russians. Nonetheless, atrocities happened on all sides - I know that very well but I also know my fellow countrymen and that they mostly have good hearts.
BTW my mother's best friend married a Norwegian man in the late 1950s and she visited her in Norway and always was fascinated by the country....
"They were nice to a kid so they must be good" dumbest thing i've ever heard, and from whom? Never have i heard of any old people who "only had good things to say" about the Germans. I'd say invading your country is a pretty bad thing to do.
@@silasmobhall9587 Probably because you and the elders are brainwashed by post war propaganda and never experienced anything irl.
@@silasmobhall9587I took the comment in the context it was made. ie, of course, it was an unwanted occupying army, but the soldiers, individually, were good ppl.
I live in a silver mining town, and we had german history since 1600's. I can never recall we had anything to do with brits.
Pulsing with truth.
Ok this is so true
Churchill has so much to answer for
He's dead, can't answer for anything.
@@Cyricist001Fortunately judgement doesn't end in this life.
Reading Finland's Foreign minister Väinö Tanner's memoires of the Winter War. The pressure and promises from France and Britain to keep the war going were pretty nuts.
When Finland needed 30 000 men right now they said:
'You'll get 6 000 men in 1-1½ months, just stop negotiating with Soviet Union and officially ask for help from us' 'If you make peace now you'll be on Germany's side' 'we won't help you at all in the future if you make peace' etc.
Best of all few hours before Finland signed the peace treaty with Soviet Union, the British ambassador Vereker told Tanner that "Despite Sweden and Norway denying us passage, our plans are still in effect and are now completely ready and our help will come to you quickly. Don't tell Norway and Sweden".
Swedish foreign minister Gunther told Tanner earlier that "the whole western plan to help Finland is childish, it will drag the whole north into the war. We will not leave a single railway intact."
Thanks for sharing!
Another GRAND video by this throbbing grander
Thanks !!
The Brits and French promised the Polish a lot of support if they fought on rather than making peace. Hmmm sounds very familiar
And then after hand them over to the Soviets. Thanks for nothing
They did the same thing to Ukraine in 2022
@@aAverageFan yep....that's my point
Churchill was a bad,bad man.. A lover of war and others death.. He was a monster from the start, look at WW1.
Taking Churchill's drink from him, then walking only slightly faster backwards than he can furiously waddle forwards
(not relevant to the video, just a funny thought)
😭😭
You just made me die in laughter😂
Thanks! Will watch this soon. Particularly interesting to me as I am Norwegian. There’s a woefully underwatched vid on this called «Churchill’s War Provocation in Norway, 1940».
Oh Lord. I have to also apologise to Norwegians.
I’m really very sorry.
It’s trite to say so, but I feel compelled.
@@Threemore650 Haha.
I think you shouldn't feel the need to apologise, but I appreciate it!
Video throbbs and pulsates with facts. Unrestrained oscillator.
What a compliment!
throbbs
I laughed a bit at your line "...but the brits tended to find that the hard working norwegians had fixed it overnight"
Reminds me of the family guy skit with the amish instantly rebuilding a destroyed barn
Another banger. 👍
Thank you as always my friend!
Norway got to benefit so much for those 5 years. it was damn near perfect.
I haven't got to the occupation yet, how so?
Quisling and Nasjonal Samling’s corporatist economics and fascist reorganization of society. Social democrats even kept the corporatist structures intact post ww2 since they were so good
@@ZoomerHistorian North and south Norway were pretty much disconnected other than by shipping lanes, the Germans MASSIVELY expanded the railways and other infrastructure effort, and a lot of small and medium sized business benefitted greatly from working with the Germans. It seems to be a trend from what I have heard from first hand and second hand accounts in different regions occupied by Germany, I have heard many a time about roads being expanded or fixed, schools and hospitals being built in remote or poor areas etc.
Absurdly different from what I grew up hearing about I'll tell you that much.
Im picking up what you are putting down. Yes much better than the Soy-Norway of today. That goes triple for Germany. Grandad almost ruled the world.. Now? It's the home of Male Lingeire...like wtf?? Sad.
@fresatx yeah that's not my experience. Norwegians are hard working and honourable people.
Yet another banger by the Zoomer, WE ARE SO B A C K !
Let’s go!!!!
love your vids brother
Means the world thank you my friend
What other videos would you like to see? Anything WW2 or really that time period (end of WW1 until end of decolonization I suppose) please post below this comment!
A video on Otto Ernst Remer would be good. I've been researching him alongside Leon Degrelle.
Maybe a look into what the Bolsheviks did to the Christian Romanov family to take power, if that's not too 'on the nose'.
@@Leo-pz5ge Great idea
@FreedomMonkeyNews | Controversial I don't think he's going to be able to do that .
@FreedomMonkeyNews | Controversial bro 😂
Nice vid
Thank you very much Scoob
I always thought that the United States shenanigans was disgusting but d*** i* looks like we really did learn from the best Britain's constant shenanigans is is just incredible
Can I recommend a book by Udo Walendy - Truth for Germany .
Where would you get a copy? Not on amazon

Damn, the Germans even used small talk as a weapon
Have you heard about the Venlo incident? I just recalled it when you mentioned the Netherlands in the beginning of the video. Could be something worth mentioning in a video or even making a video about.
Yes actually, I'll mention it when I make a video on the Netherlands/the war in France

Thanks large bear man
Very interesting.
We're not even taught about this here in America.
In Europe its taught that Germany invaded Norway but anything else you wouldn't need to graduate history at an university.
Kids aren't even taught that the Southwest was taken from Mexico
I was wondering about this one as I just saw that movie about norwick. They didn’t play it entirely as the Germans being bad, as the English were bombing without civilian discretion
👍
Hello Estonian man
dads when you sent them europa last battle 👍🏻
We in Scandinavia say Motherland not Fatherland. That shows our old religion is still here. No christians or muslims will ever win our hearts. And the germans did some shitty stuff in Norway like taking the food from the inhabitants and leaving them starving. They also sent ppl to KZ. So it was not a mutual thing the occupation of Norway. We who have family who remembers know the truth.
What are your sources for this video? Because this is historical revisionism at its best.
The history you learn is revisionist aka sweJ why don’t you use some critical thinking
Research yourself. A tip. Dont search out info with the goal of proving anything. Just dates and events. This history isn't hidden. What they do is try and confuse you as to why these things happened. That's the trick
If you find anything that's factually wrong, you should just point it out rather than complain about "revisionism."
If Norway never allowed England to park their warplanes here so they could attack Germany from the North then they wouldn't get bulldozered by Germany. The annexation is their own fault and in no way were they neutral like this.
Yep and we see countries behaving as the same useful idiots today
Norway didn't have British warplanes stationed on their territory.
