- After playing one of the better Sonic games, I decided to create yet another video around a game from my favorite childhood being Bakugan Defenders Of The Core on the Wii. This was the second attempt at creating the Bakugan world in the space of a videogame, with a returning cast of characters from the tv show, along with a transformed story from the same show, along with some mechanics that were brand new to this game. Will I enjoy my playthrough? Guess you need to watch the video to find out.

I get that for sure. I felt the same way at first, it just lost me towards the end.
The game would have been more enjoyable in my opinion, if this was a direct sequel to the original game, and we were able to play with Leonidas again as our main Bakugan, instead we just play others characters Bakugan, thing that killed the game for me, the first one let you feel like part of the plot, here you feel like a deus ex machina that exists to be there for a reason

I didn't think anybody would be talking about this game in 2023! I've played the DS version countless times and despite its flaws, I love it. The soundtrack is also an underrated part of the game. Great video.
The worst part about this game is the fact that Andrés from the other class kept telling us he unlocked Leonidas by completing some impossible task like it was an NDS exclusive thing but like I was the only other kid who had the NDS version so the other kids just kept pushing me to try despite we all knowing was a lie but he kept telling us it wasn't and that went on for a while until I 100%'d it out of spite. Screw you Andrés.
I remember searching for chest around the map for hours and spend days just to defeat that Masquerade shit, his Bakugan is like a cheat
I liked this game, but compared to the first one it really leaves much to be desired. I wish we got a Gundalian Invaders game
Baukgan defenders of the core could have been a lot better then what we got , 1st , we play as the same character from the first game, except he’s a little bit older and him and Leonidas are chilling with Dan , second have leonides evolve again and become maximum leonides , 3rd have Marduk and vladtoir help the player defeat that masquerade wannabe (spectra ) and 4 , the keep the gameplay the same from the first game but just add some new mechanics like , we can now use abilities cards as soon as we throw our Bakugan onto the cards ( like in the show ) , we can use multiple ability cards . Here’s my idea for the story , the player and Dan are just chilling and practicing their battle skills in the vr room and suddenly something goes terribly wrong and Dan makes out in time but the player and leonides are transported to a timeline where the vexes have taken over earth and most of the battle brawlers are dead 💀 like Julie , Shan , runo . The player finds a older Dan in his mid 20s and the resistance along with a older Marduk , Alice , Chan lee , billy , kumba and klaus and some of the former enemies of the battle brawlers . The player also learns that most of the battle brawlers og baukgans have been captured and experiment on and I using their powers to advanced technology . They player , Dan , Marduk and even a older masquerade ( yes I know masquerade is Alice ) all team up to distract the vexes and get the player home and make sure that this timeline never happens , the ending of the game ends with the player, making it back to his timeline and informs the battle brawlers of that timeline , Dan informs us that we won’t let that timeline never happens and that we will defeat the vexes . That’s my opinion of a better version of this game , let me know your thoughts and opinions .
To be fair you can pretty much make the same character and pretend that it's the original. Yeah, Leonidas isn't there, but the main characters except Dan switch out their partner Bakugan all the time in the anime. I'd just assume that Leo is chilling in New Vestroia with the other original Bakugan.
They would still remember eachother though, Leo not being there isn't the only issue. Obviously you're right and you can pretend to a point, but the fact that they make no attempt to even reference the first game doesn't help.

That's fair, definitely one of the things I did like about the game.
I only had two problems with this game. The voice actors were not the same as the ones from the anime/BB game, so they often felt awkward and, personally, some VAs did not suit their roles whatsoever.
The other problem was _that_ daylight battle in Egypt. The one with an army of metal fencers and their laser beams which you can’t block and always send you flying across the map 😭
I love this game, I got this game when it first came out and played it multiple times even to this day.
This game is such a pain to play, to this day I’m still stuck on the same level that I will never beat.
I 100% this game when i was little cause i loved the game a lot. But when i tried the game a couple years ago i realize how clunky the game was. Honestly i think the game has a ton of potential if it was remade
I really loved this game as a kid on my PSP, still do love it for all the issues it has, and if nothing else really love the fact that there are cheatcodes that work. My only real problem is that its not a continuation and that they at the very least didnt give us Leonides in the first game even if they werent connected and just repeated the same arc with him.
For me I think the game would've been fine as it is with the story changed a bit to fit Leonidas and our character, but I think it would've been just that much better had it followed the original completely. Gameplay and all.

Yeah. Honestly I think had this game tweaked the story, removed the overworld or just added more to it, and kept the same gameplay style of the first, this one would've been great. The changes are just disappointing.
Loved this game when I was a kid. Even though I raged at it I still went through and unlocked and maxed out everything
I like the game, it maybe hard but the plot is what got me to get into it, just like the show . Lol shadow the hedgehog scene is perfect for the shadow brawlers
Honestly, one of the things that I enjoyed the most was the overworld, having to do this lite-Metal Gear-esque sneaking around... shame that that's about all that the Overworld had to offer.
And yeah, it honestly WAS a shame that we didn't continue straight off from the original game, Leonidas and all.
I wish the game was a little more fast paced like the first one, but at the same time I understand why the decision was made. Also yeah, that was the worst offender for me, but at the same time again, thinking about how the first season of the anime ends I guess the decision makes sense.
@@ShadyPst It also sucks how New Vestroia and Gundalian Invaders didn't get full games... or really, none of the Bakugan series' got a full game, but I mainly bring up NV and GI because those two are my favorite seasons.

So bakugan new vestroia (season 2) it terms of the anime series marked one of my biggest annoyances in this hobbyani/game ani type genre as I grew older, and its a problem that has persisted throughout Bakugan from New Vestroia all the way to the beginning and end of G2, that annoyance is when the show doesn't follow the rules of the game its based on. This was an even bigger problem in the G2 series run where G2 had an entire TCG that the show from Battle planet all the way to legends, never advertised.
And defenders of the core, despite being a big part of my childhood, is kinda the personification of this problem I've had with with how the bakugan shows handle things, basically just trying to become the Pokémon anime when really they should be trying to follow the yugioh anime, because despite all the BS that yu-gi-oh characters pull in their duels with their anime only effects and dark magic, after duellist kingdom, they at least follow the basic rules of the game.
(bakutech did fix these problems but that was japan exclusive)
I'm not going to lie.I did have fun with it when I was a little kid. But I do agree that it would be better if Leonidas, was our main bakugan and also, be able to battle alongside with trap bakugan. Also able to combine with some trap bakugan too.
I agree. As a kid I had a lot of fun with it, it's just not as good as I remembered. Especially compared to the first game.

It was pretty fun, and it was decent enough as a battle game. Not great to be sure, but it worked. And it only cost $30.

Despite the exclusion of Leonidas as our starter/secret unlock Baakugan, the game was a banger of a good time and was a great introduction to fighting games for me as a kid (even tho there was Street Fighters IV: Arcade Edition but... I don't talk about that 👀)! The graphics be of AA quality so, I'm not complaining much and mechanics/objectives were a nice breath of fresh air from the adaptation of the tabletop game itself rom the first game. Overall, even tho it had no reason to exist... I'm damn glad it did UwU
I'm sure they can make a good game with all the stuff in the OG game along with the new content like story, bakugan and their support bakugan

It was more a "war of the monsters" than a bakugan brawling game. I stopped playing when I finished the game and unlocking both maxus dragonoid and helios. I wished they just focus on battle brawlers (2009) gameplay if they can't follow or understand the Vexos/New Vestoria game rules which only 1 gate card can be played from either players turn and if your 500 life gauge reaches zero you lose.
Completely agree. I would've been fine with the game if they used the same gameplay as the first and changed the Bakugan, it just sucked to me that it's a completelty different game.
Hell this game came out during New Vestoria's second half where they wrnt back to the old rules

Personally, I have to say Bakugan New Vestroia was my favorite of the four series. But this game was not what I was hoping for. Still better than Rise of the Resistance being Bakugan Tower Defense, but not much better.

I never played it, that's most likely part of the reason I feel the way I do about this one. This is the last one I played so it ruined the setup of the first game and I dipped.

While I appreciate the nostalgia aspect of this game, I personally dislike the story. Leonidas did have a bit of a fanbase so a sequel of sorts to the first game makes more sense than a fresh story. I did like the ost for this game but it would have made more sense for the game to take place in New Vestroia in my opinion. Plus, I would have loved to have seen the next evolution of Leo too. Oh well 🤷🏽♂️
I do wish i had Leo
As a kid I spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house. When I went I always played this game to completion on my PSP every time I went. At some point I had 100% the game like about 20 or more times. The story was fun the bakugan and character designs of new vestroya have always looked cooler to me. The combat also was better and more engaging (apart from the objective protection like that one mission you have 3 objectives but one dying means you have to restart). I always loved the this game more as a kid since I only had played this one but watching videos of the first one always made be doubt my love for defenders of the core. DOTC is objectively the more fun game to play but BB is absolutely better because it creates a fantasy that is lacking in DOTC. I always wished BB was the way to market for these franchised games instead of what beyblade the metal series,or bionicle or like DOTC is where it's just a promo to sell more toys.
In conclusion: Selling a game earns you money. Selling the fantasy of a universe earns you diehard loyal customers. PLAY THE DOTC THEME SONG AT MY FUNERAL

I like the game but you should've been able to use the 4 ability card + being able to set trap bakugan yourself. Maybe instead of destroying the tower you overtake it. Lastly, just cut down the mission using the actual character should help made it less bloated and boring

See I’m the opposite though season 1 was amazing season 2 was my fav idk why and I loved defenders of the core just beating up bakugan as a bakugan is dope though if they made a actually good story this game would have been way more liked plus no actual post game besides 100% game which I’ve done on 3 diff consoles

The voice actors are the annoying part for me especially when everyone except shun and shadow are the only ones that have even a slight similarity to the anime

I mean it's just a simple fighting game with a plot. Rewarding players for playing a new game+ is an odd complaint
New game+ isn't the issue. If they made you search for all the evil team's Bakugan instead of just giving the rest to you it'd be one thing. It's the fact that they make you play the same game and seach the same overworlds again which were both mediocre the first time to get one Bakugan.
The second game definitely wasn’t as good as the first one. I remember willingly getting all the achievements in the first game but got stuck with 10 perfect combo breaks in the second one and gave up on it
while this game is flawed and not even close to as good as other fighting games but it is also fare from the worst fighting games out there trust me you will find some real stinckers in there if you look for them, i would even say that it is better than godzilla for PS4, it is not as repetaive as that game and is alot more fun,
it's still is pretty solid, nothing amazing but not bad and still scratches that itch for giant monster beating the crap out of each other ,it reminds me a lot of godzilla save the earth one of my all time favorite fighting games and while it's not even close to as good as that game, if you can remind me of that game you have done something right,
it has annoying parts but the gameplay is fun and enjoyable overall despite its flaws, multiplayer is a lot of fun if you just want to beating the crap out of each other,
it's no masterpiece and there are much better games in this style out there and i found it sad that they drop what they were going for in the first game and we never got any more bakugan games in that style, it would have been fine it they made another game after this in similar style to the first one or if they tried to mix them and in some ways or just make 2 new series of bakugan games and maby experiment with one of them to see if they could have been mixed together in one game.
they should have brought back leonidas that would have helped a little bit, they hade a good thing going wiht him but wasited him after the first game, it would have been awesome to be able to control him in the battles of this game, and if they relly did not want him to have story impact they could have at least hade him as a bonus character or an easter egg that you unlock later. but no did not even give him a cameo or shout out i don't think they even reference him or mention him at all, what a waist of a perfectly fine character, they could have made so much more interesting stuff with him.
they could have mixt both of their concept together so that you still have the strategic parts but once the bakugans attack each other it would go into a similar fighting face like in this game with bakugans getting advantages depend on what element and card they landed on and its effects, maybe it would have been too difficult to pull off but i believe that they could have made it work. objectively this is a decent or an above average game that is great if you like bakugan and a ok fighting game,
Hahaha, switch to the psp port and the game feels more substantial. You'll think it's pretty decent for a portable game. 😂
