  • After playing one of the worst Sonic games, I decided to return to my roots and create a video around one of my favorite childhood games being Bakugan Battle Brawlers on the Wii. This was the first attempt at creating the Bakugan world in the space of a videogame, with some returning characters from the tv show and two brand new characters, along with a transformed story from the tv show, and some mechanics that were brand new to this version of the game. Will I enjoy my playthrough? Guess you need to watch the video to find out.

This game is also unique to me for showing that the silent custom protagonist isn’t necessary. Like the purpose of that cliche is to have a character represent you the player making it your story but this game refutes that by having a fully voiced protagonist but is still a completely blank slate having the best of both worlds a player character unique to them along side character development and character interaction.

@TsubasaAmsel2120 okay, _soo_ , i could go on for hours but I wont, admin for nihce ps2 emulator group, _but_ the short answer is a specific setting is needed to fix PS2 bakugan textures that _all these yt'ers ignore_ but is easily fixable. Its 1 setting in the emu settings and they just refuse and record their gameplay with it broken, which is really funny to me. The side thing is that since its 1 setting, you can easily tell who does and doesnt care about accuracy based on that.
Its one of the monotonous settings like aliasing or double renders, but its easily searchable to find the fix. Most just ignore it completely.

  • @MBV97
    @MBV97 Před rokem +5

I would say it had potential of becoming as popular as Pokemon. I was in 5th grade when I found Bakugan from my little sister and loved the toy. It had some problems but so did Pokemon when it came out so I was gonna give it a pass and hoped its sequel got better. But then most ignored its original gameplay and went to fighting games and other types of games while barely having any stories. It such a shamed caused I'd still believed Bakugan could've been more popular if they fixed the game mechanic and strategized more in the gameplay but sadly they went a different route.
Bakugan will always have a special place in my heart and I will always say it had a missed opportunity to becoming more popular.

I still wish they added more to the story because the story was good but it made me feel like it was still incomplete. We never got to resolve the conflict with Hal G ourselves compared to the anime and left little after play and no epilogue after we got back Leonidas. It would have been cool to at least try and get Vladitor back since we got the silent core and tried to revive all those who have fallen into the doom dimension and Hal G constantly attacking us and eventually succeeds in taking back the core or holding a grand tournament where he steals it back or something. I mean they literally modeled Hal G and Naga so why not add them to the roster of the games playable characters along with Alice instead of her just being stuck in the shop make her able to fight too. And I wished there was a hard mode to the game where it opened more minigames than the timing, shooting, and button battles and made it to where it had more of the anime rules such as if your bakugan lost the battle you cannot use it again for the remainder of that battle.
P.S. Who else got confused when Jenny and Jewels talked and their voices were swapped compared to the anime?

What's funny is I had this game on DS as a kid, so the controls and everything was conpletely different. The story was still the same, but there was no voice acting nor characters that moved a whole lot unless the movement was small or specific. The minigames were also pretty different. From what I remember, from the obes you mentioned, the popping minigame was one of the only ones they had in common. If I'm remembering correctly, one minigame requires you to slide the stylist back and forth on the touch screen as fast as possible. Another one has you following a loop as best as you can using a stylist (the longer you hold, the better the output).
Something I noticed that you didn't mention (probably because it was unique to the DS version) is that while rolling the Bakugan, the NPC's can also try to manipulate the Bakugan to either go to one of their Gate Cards or have it stop, which has you wasting said Bakugan.
Despite the differences, I remember loving the game A LOT as a kid, choosing 3 Bakugan of different types so I can use the Ability Card that gives a Bakugan 400 G Power I think? Or something like that. I just liked seeing the number get big.

I wish the game also went over the second part of season 1. It would be a challenge since the hybrid gatekeepers don’t have ball forms or brawlers to use them but if the game could already make unique bakugan and brawlers, why couldn’t it make followers of Naga that use the hybrids? Naga could have found pieces of Vladitor and revived him to try and take his power but he fights back. Vladitor then returns to earth injured to warn the brawlers about Naga’s plans and help them take the fight to him. I think the player being there should change the ending a little by letting Wavern live and Vladitor & Leonidas become the new silent and infinity cores.

While in the ds version you can activate only one ability in any moment during the battle, so u may been winning the fight but before the countdown ends ur opponent use the ability to change the score and you lose, and there's nothing u can do about it.

By the arena orders Pyrus is "hard" on the beggining but the rest of the game is neutral in terms of field advantage, also the Special Shot whit Leonidas weakens by a long shot most Bakugans if it doesn't straight up kill them.
Darkus might put you in a bit of trouble in the final tournament but you can brute force your way whit enough power up cards until you beat Dan or just build a Haos deck. The Special Shot is great, do a Sphere Attack to pass over a Bakugan and steal energy, then get items and land to get a even higher lead.

Season 1 was goated. Season 2 was decent but lacked a overall cohesive plot with the latter arcs and felt underwhelming. Later seasons were a mess. The show became formulaic and gimmicky and most characters didnt matter anymore with half of them constantly being replaced. The characters don't grow much beyond season 1 and the interesting ones were sidelined and replaced. The sound design and music also got old as they always reused the same osts. The stakes and challenges they had to overcome in seasons 1 and early season 2 are not really present in later seasons. Gundalian Invaders was okay, but new characters like Ren and Fabia should been given more spotlight as main characters. Ren's arc was basically done when he became a good guy. Mechtanium Surge part 1 was a mess. Characters arguing and fighting over the dumb stuff only for it to be resolved in like one episode. I understand why they might have changed the cast, but removing all the original female members never sat right with me. Runo's is delegated to just being Dan's female friend/cheerleader same with Julie. Alice is more understandable as she always had a more passive role, but it would been nice to see more of her. Retiring half the old cast would been fine if they actually replaced them with characters that stuck, even the partner bakugan got replaced except Drago so there's no attachment. I stopped caring about Shun and Marucho's bakugan after a while cuz i knew they were just gonna replace them again. The game was kinda fun when it first came out, but most people just collected the toys and later no one cared about the game. Season 1 had twists and turns where you legitimately weren't sure what was gonna happen.

Disclaimer: This isn't a hate comment, I just like to leave critical reviews of things I am passionate about and I love both Bakugan and Pokemon.
This video is entertaining, but I'd rename it something like "Why you should play Bakugan Battle Brawlers for Wii" because you didn't talk about the main point of the video except in the intro and the conclusion which doesn't make a strong argument. The conclusion also isn't a strong one because Nuzlockes and competitive battles are actually a very small portion of the Pokemon community, especially in the timeframe of when this game and the original Bakugan show was airing. Competitive Pokemon didn't even begin until 2009, which is when this game came out, and the competitive scene has grown larger every year since then in terms of attendance and viewership online. But the biggest detriment to the argument that Bakugan (even originally) was better than Pokemon is sales. While Bakugan Battle Brawlers for Wii is a fantastic and fun game, it isn't even in the top 63 (I know, weird number but that's the whole list on the website) Wii games listed on Wikipedia. The bottom of the list only scratches 1 million units, meaning this game must have sold less. Every main-series Pokemon game and the vast majority of the spin-off titles sold better this game, and this game came out during the peak of Bakugan. So it's a hard sell to say Bakugan was better originally than Pokemon objectively, but maybe it can be argued that Bakugan is underrated even with all the hype that surrounded it back in the day. Bakugan was a massive sensation for everyone around me in my life back in elementary/middle school. So it is hard to imagine the scene being even bigger, but I imagine the growth was only propelled by kids. Has anyone ever heard of an adult playing Bakugan back in the day? Because I only see that now-a-days because of the reboot from those that played as kids.
Again, this video was a fun watch and I enjoyed reminiscing about my own experience playing this game, but I cannot agree with your points based on this video alone. Keep up the fun content! I hope to see more!
