uSDR QRP Transceiver made in China

- A very short first video about the Chinese uSDR sold at ebay. My transceiver worked for about 1 hour and then the frontend died. My antenna is small and there was no big signals. I expect very poor design. This video should give you a first impression about the transceiver. After I received my ordered replacement parts I will show you (hopefuly) a working uSDX.

The speaker is hard to hear since it is closed up inside the case so I turned it over to face up and drilled some holes in the top of the case to make it easy to hear.
I don't have this uSDX replica but listen to records. DSP AGC adds very noticeable noise floor comparing with QCX. Thus, I am still thinking about purchasing one. But variable filters looking interesting .
Thanks for video.
Bjoern, thanks for the video. I was particularly interested in seeing the innards of this rig, especially the bottom side, and you made that possible. Quite a few videos out there but only you've done the teardown.
Essentially, just wanted to see if they have used torroids in the band LPFs....
I'm seriously thinking of getting the original "sandwich" design by Manuel - manufactured. Some 10-15 units. The proposed group-buy may not work out quick, so....
Following you to see I just ordered one Regards Chris N3WER
Great videos - hoping for some more when you have time. Mortimer Rhind-Tutt G4BSK
There will be more! But at the moment I can't free up enough time. I planned a video about the repair of the uSDR and may be some more about outdoor operation. Vy 73 de Björn
Please consider informing youself about the background and history of this project. Especially hardware was never open source, as I never published my source files. But it´s a copy without permission of the DL2MAN Sandwich. It was meant to be a project for home brewers and what the chinese made out of it is not ready to hit the market. Bad quality, bad PCB Layout, bad efficiency, bad harmonic suppression..... 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
I understand your point. But the schematics find its way to China and now the marked is flooded with this trainscivers. There is no way back. But I expect that this will not hold a long time. The tranceiver I bought is so poor quality. I think many of them will go back for refund. So the story will be short. I like the form factor of the transceiver. I hope I can fix it. But it seems to be a very poor design. I'm waiting for the multiplexer chip over one month now... Vy 73 de Bjoern, DL2NEP.
My uSDX arrived on the 5/11/2021 and it seems that it has no TX output. I can hear the TX signal on a nearby receiver so it seems the TX signal is being generated (perhaps to the driver stage) but no output indicated on the power meter. I also note some audio instability in receive mode when listening on the internal speaker but the instability disappears when listening on the speaker mic. I saw some others complaining of audio instability, my guess is that the uSDX gets a lot of its RX gain at audio much like a DC receiver and the internal speaker causes feedback much like in DC receivers. I have left a message with the seller via Ali express message board. Lets see what happens. Regards, Peter VK1XP.
I heard voltage regulator is set to 12v instead of 5v in many units. This takes out front end amp.
I've a question: the audio works out of the mike or ext. speaker? On my usdr does not work anymore the speaker but mike and ext. speaker port (with headphones) does. Ciao
Both. There is a speaker inside the microphone and there is a speaker inside the transceiver. If you plug in the microphone all audio will routed to the microphone.
I just received this radio today, and see it does not come with a battery installed. I'm just getting back into HF, so what battery or power supply can i use on it. Tnx. 73s, N7BFT
It depends on the user profile. If you only want to be QRV a couple of hours, than a small LiFePo or 8 AA batteries will do the job. If you need more then you have to scale up this. I am using a 12.8V LiFePo4 battery with 3Ah. This is pleanty of energy for this small transceivers. Vy 73
Can this radio work on 12vdc, or must it have 13.8?
Thank you
It works on 12V as well. It will reduce a little bit the output power. But for my feeling the output is very high. So 12V schould be very good. Vy 73 de Bjoern, DL2NEP
@@echopapaqrp8166 Thank you

It is regrettable to see the transceiver initially inoperative :(. Most likely the fst3253 mixer IC is really faulty
Here's my experience with it: czcams.com/video/o4i7JWiVibw/video.html This radio has such great potential, but I had bad luck with mine. Thanks for the great video, Bjoern. I hope your new part solves the problem. 73
I think it's a knock off from DL2MAN radio. Check his YT channel
The one I got died in the same way in less than an hour.
I expected this.... very sad. The size of this transceiver is perfect. But electronic design is 💩
@@echopapaqrp8166
It's not clear to me what went wrong. Mine makes this loud buzzing noise that builds and crashes like thunder, and the menu button stopped working. I have a dispute open with Aliexpress, so hopefully I get my money back.
I also really liked the size of this radio versus the suitcase it takes to pack up my Icom. I was excited and wanted it to work.
@@contactmiller For me it looks like a massive design issue. Something begin to resonate or some feedback is to strong. I expect that my transceiver will die again if I get it repaired. Realy sad. I would be the perfect pocket transceiver.
@@echopapaqrp8166 It's too bad QRP labs don't make a SSB phone kit, they developed this software and the radio design. They are CW purists. This radio is just a cheap rip-off, used without permission.
I wrote it already as a reply to another comment, but I think this is a knock off from DL2MAN radio. Check his YT channel.
Yes, I saw his videos. He showed the topic really good. But on the other hand. I ordered this uSDR, it broke after some hours of usage and I finaly repaired it. The new chip works very good. It receives better than before. I compared it with an Elecraft KX2. If there is a very low signal on the KX2, you are able to hear it on the uSDR too. But on the KX2 it is readable, on the uSDR it is only something in the noise. I will do that as a video. But at the moment I am very busy with work and so on. No time left for making YT videos.
