Singapore is one of the cleanest, safest and most beautiful places you will ever visit. Be sure to add it to your bucket list or let us know your impressions of this fun city. John and Bev
Great video you two! Thanks!
There are countries far more beautiful, if you consider nature and such. But it's definitely a "clean & green" country
We've spent many many months up in Singapore on and off since 1980, we have direct 6 hour flights from Cairns Australia. A beautiful city indeed and all you said about it is spot on. We even have our own personal MRT cards for travel convenience, we travel all over the island on the trains and buses. You missed a great walk, the old Kranji railway greenway walk, 24 klms from the port area adjacent to the Marina hotel, right over to the Woodlands/ causeway to Malaysia area. Historic Railway tracks were pulled up and replaced with walking/cycleway paved path. We've walked it end to end.
For such a "modern" City Singapore has beautiful inner city and suburban forest areas.
You need to spend more time there, there are small private hotels for extremely reasonable money weekly.
Oh that sounds amazing! Been to Singapore once and want to return, so maybe we can do part of this walk.
These are some great suggestions and we do plan to return to Singapore. Thanks so much for adding your insights and knowledge of Singapore for our viewers.

If you’re on Orchard Road, head to the basement of some of the malls and you’ll find cheaper food options like food courts or small cafes. Those outlets at street level are way more expensive!
Thanks. Great advice. We plan to return next year and do a bunch of different things.

I LOVE SINGAPORE! (I Can't afford to live there unless a Singaporean hires me at a fabulous salary - I'm worth every penny ... don't worry about it & I can do everything Neil Armstrong and Chuck Norris can do). I'm twice as handsome, three times as loyal, and autodidactic.
We love Singapore too. The question is can you also edit videos 🤣

There are plenty of food courts in the shopping centres in Orchard Road - usually in the basement or top floor. They are not as cheap as hawker centres, but probably a lot cheaper than your pizza
We plan to eat differently next time and make our mission to find the best bargains around town. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Glad you enjoyed Singapore. When we were there a number of years ago the Flower Dome was filled with orchids. It was pretty amazing. I spoke at a conference there and had a discount to stay at the Marina Bay Sands. It was pretty cool being at the top in the infinity pool.
As always, enjoyed watching your vlogs. Specially this one, you guys did much board coverage than I visited. I was in Singapore two weeks ago. Wow, I missed a great opportunity to meeting you two (maybe, you do not like to meet stranger).😀
So glad you are enjoying our videos. We would have loved to have met you. We meet great strangers all over the world.

Singapore, not necessarily expensive.
1. Eat at local HDB hawker centers & coffee shops everywhere.
Newton Hawker Center & Lau Pa Sat hawker center both a tourist spot is also expensive.
2. Take local MRT & buses. Clean & punctual & efficient.
Great suggestions. Thanks. Very helpful. We did take the MRT everywhere, but appreciate the tips on the local hawker centers. We plan to return next year and do a follow-up video on Singapore.
John and Bev

A bowl of noodle cost $4.50-$5 Sing dollars, yeah getting expensive.
Simple solution:
1 lot of 5 packet of noodle from the grocery shop cost about $3.
Home cook this and add prawn & veggie will give you the same at hawker center.
(This will probably cost $1.50 per serving & you can have 5 serving) 👍
A good way to save.
@@RetirementTravelers Would also suggest you hop on any Double Decker public bus and see not only the city and streets of Singapore but they bring you right up to the heartlands where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks at local hawker centres without having to burn a hole in your wallets. Buses are clean, air-conditioned, efficient, extensive and fares cost only couple of dollars for the whole journey. Best to sit at the upper deck and enjoy the views. Cheapest way to see and enjoy "expensive" Singapore most tourists don't get to experience. Bet they won't comment Singapore as the most expensive city in the world after this bus ride.
@@limchyehock6722 This is a great suggestion. We will do it on our next visit. Thank you 😊 We have received many great suggestions.
John and Bev
What a pity that you did not visit our Zoo, Night Safari, Bird Park, etc.. , eat our local food in hawker centres, etc etc etc.
Will U both be coming back to Singapore?
Yes, we are returning next year and visit the places that viewers are recommending.

08:20 When I buy an orchid as a gift I always look for the one with the most buds. Watching the buds bloom over the course of days is exciting. I'm lucky I live in a tropical clime so orchids are not un-common.

Wow! I just discovered your channel (and website and newsletter), and am a subscriber/follower now! Your videos are wonderful. I was going to ask how you do the drone photography - but I saw on another video the list of your camera gear. You do such an excellent job of videoing - very professional! You must have to carry a TON of camera gear. Is all that separate from your individual backpacks? Just curious about that. I look forward to following your channel, and other posts.
Thanks. So glad you found our channel. We really don't have a ton of camera gear and carry it in our detachable day packs on our Osprey packs.

Excellent video. Singapore is a great visit. I tried to eat mostly food from various "hawker" markets & found prices very reasonable. Staying off season at smaller hotels away from the center of town helped alot also. I would add Sentosa island is also a great visit while in Singapore.
Thanks for the tips. We can't wait to return to Singapore.

Hi John and Bev, hope you’re both keeping well. I’m watching you from the UK on the south coast in a Seaside town called Worthing. If you decide to come to the UK be aware that the UK is going through a cost of living crisis and it’s very expensive to stay or eat anywhere. We are experiencing the biggest jump in 50 years of groceries and utilities. There are plenty of campsites if you don’t mind camping, that’s okay in the summer. Actually that would be the best and most fun way to see the UK by doing a tour of the campsites around Britain and Scotland. I’m sure you know that there’s a lot of history here so you guys would probably find that very interesting. Hope that helps and have a great day. 😊
Eat in the food courts of ION for reasonable eats and any other food courts of other malls
Great suggestion. Thanks.

Hi John and Bev, what a great video. Singapore looks like a must do location! Thank you for sharing it. My husband and I travel a lot and recently returned from Bali. We have a great driver connection there if your other one falls through! I can get you his Whatsapp contact info. Safe travels !

Hello,
You mentioned in one of your videos that you were going to stay in Europe for 9 months. How did you get around schengen rules? My wife and I are "FIRE". We spent one year in Valencia Spain. We are in the US now and we want to spend more than three months "slow" traveling in Europe.
We spent 3 months in the Schengen zone, then traveled through the Balkans for 3 months (loved it), and then back to the Schengen zone. It is a great way to extend your European travels.

@@RetirementTravelers Thanks for the reply. Best of luck on your plans ahead.
You should give yourselves a treat and go to Malaysia especially Penang, Melaka and East Malaysia (Borneo) Kuching, KK, Mulu. Many of the scenes in Crazy Rich Asians were filmed in Malaysia. It is so much cheaper and much richer in culture. The food is amazing. I know, as I spend much of my ‘winter’ months in Malaysia. My wife and I are retirees. Great to see you guys enjoying yourselves.

Do you ever hesitate to let folks know you are from the usa? Do you ever put away your baseball caps just to try to 'blend' in? I worry about this as I prepare to travel.... The world is so strange these days! Past experience has lead me to feel that humans can be amazingly kind everywhere in the world, no matter where you are from (and they can be stinkers too - regardless of nation boundaries!) but I wonder if you have noticed any change in the way people respond to you when they find out you are american.
