Every video is a joy, Tom, but the shift videos are the bread and butter of this channel! I absolutely love seeing them, and I always wish that they go on for longer than they do.
I had to laugh, I have a colleague who likes to tell the cab driver which way to go because he thinks he knows best and he always opens the windows and asks for the aircon to be turned on even when it clearly already was before he opened the windows! Most of us avoid getting into the same cab as him as he always the last to arrive at the destination due to him 'knowing best' !
Hiya Tom, just thought I'd leave this here. I'm a Londoner born and bred, and I used to work jobs that got me driving all across London, so I like to think that I know my way about a bit. I now live in Edinburgh, and although I'd never admit it amongst friends, I do miss home from time to time. Thank you for uploading shifts like these. Your videos are such a joy to watch, to see my old stomping ground and share a laugh or two about traffic and tourists. I may not be as quick off the mark as yourself, but it's a lot of fun to think to myself things like "yeah that's right" or "oh that's new" to your routes and just keep my London knowledge ticking over. Cheers mate!
On German buses and trains, where you can flap in the upper part of some windows as emergency ventilation will have a sticker saying "Air condition is working most efficiently with windows closed." Usually that helps a lot. In my car the AC is set to 21 all year long...
Sitting in my room in Whitechapel watching this on a March afternoon when it’s been nothing but stormy and under 5 degrees all day while the sun comes down before 6pm. man I miss the summer London days in this video. Great music choices in this one too
For what it's worth, I set my car's AC to 20, and most of the time I'm comfortable. But if I've been out in the heat all day, as some of your passengers could have been, I turn it right down to 18 until I cool off, and when it starts to get too cold, I turn it back to 20. 22 is a bit warm for me. I like it cold. Also, was that guy hailing you down at 12:23? Might have missed one there! I love videos like this. Thank you for taking the time to edit and upload them.
Great videos mate. I'm debating doing the knowledge. I'm currently a heating engineer but fed up of the hard labour and paperwork. Only advice I could give if you're fed up of the aircon convo, would be to maybe put the aircon on around 19.5-20°. 22° is warm imo.
Your Sunday Summary is fantastic! Love knowing what’s going on in your life. You’ve always got nifty recommendations and I love your perspective. Compared to myself, you’re an intellectual! Hearing you go on about those topics makes stuff feel almost attainable to understand lol
Great insight Tom, thank you for sharing your drive on a Friday. I am already a subscriber to your cracking newsletter. Well done. Hell from London, N2 : - )
Love these videos Tom - as a video editor myself I know how much work will go into them, but hope you continue with them every so often. Keep up the great work! I'm still traumatised by trying to navigate Oxford Street as a visually impaired person (one of the big drivers in me starting to use a cane!). It was a nightmare! I can't imagine trying to drive down it!
Hi Tom Great video as per usual. Have been in London a lot lately and have had some great conversations with cabbies. Hopefully sometime soon I’ll get to have a conversation with you
Some of these passengers make me scratch my head, like if you're already at Paddington station and want to get to Holloway Road station then surely you might as well just jump on the Underground and pay 3.20/2.60 rather than 25-30 in a taxi when it is going to take roughly the same amount of time anyway (not a knock at Tom or black cabs at all!), I could understand it more if it was a group of people sharing
I still absolutely love the fact that you include all the clips of cyclists and other red light jumpers with absolutely no commentary on the issue. Silent judgement is the best.
Oh saying that Tom, me being a coach driver, a weekend is the worst time to be working especially when everyone is off for the weekend and all the roads are busy, especially Liverpool Street (bishopsgate).
Ah: The Strand. In Auckland, NZ, The Strand is both a street and a long distance train station on that road. I spotted a new trainee not knowing the booking from a hotel at 6am Saturday was going there instead of Britomart (within Auckland about 5 minutes away). I was comfortable making the assumption due to local train closures that are still going on for flood-proofing and other repairs and the fact that long-distance trains aren't as frequent during the week.
15:19 In my first 5 months of working at call centre (excluding my first month as a trainee), I disliked working on Fridays because it was the busiest day of the week from August to December just before school finishes. I think the floods in January gave me a different perspective. I was probably also worn down from working on Sundays as most drivers take the day off, and even buses have diversions for events, so I still am anxious even before I go to work, and still imagined how it could had been if I was called into work today.
I''ve just discovered your channel and am loving watching the London 'tours'. Your knowledge is - obviously - awesome. Gotta say tho, man, most of the cyclists down there are crazy.
Love you pointing the Acol Bridge Club in West End Lane. Other dedicated bridge clubs in central London include TGRs Club at Craven Road/Westbourne Terrace, the London Mindsports Centre in Dalling Road Hammersmith (the former Salvation Army Hall), the Andrew Robson Club in Parsons Green Lane right by the tube station and others in the suburbs. All the Pall Mall/West End Clubs, Hurlingham, Roehampton, etc. have bridge sections but they tend to be for members and guests. No worries, there are a ton of other places where regular players can get a weekly game and tourists are always welcome if they want a game too. The annual Inter-Livery Company bridge tournament is this Monday (March 6th) at Drapers Hall. Does the Hackney Carriage Drivers Company have a team? If not why not?
Just a point to the air con not being enough for some people. If they was walking about for some time in the heat they could be hot from that also. Where as you have been sitting. Just might help with understanding
Another good video, however if I have the Aircon in my car sat at 22° I literally melt. I know us northerners are more immune to the cold but by 20° I need shorts and a t-shirt .
Another great upload, doing what Tom does best, showing us what a day in the life of a London cabbie' is like. And TfL drastically slowing down the traffic with even more unnecessary under used cycle lanes.
Tom I've watched about 80% of your videos before today I realised Im not subscribed so sorted that out, Great work. Anyway Lower Roberts street please Driver
You're more awake in DST, but I just prefer it organically be sunset or nightfall when I finish work. This is why I dislike finishing my shift at 3 or 4pm like schoolkids.
Re the passengers who wanted 'Poland St, Tottenham Court Road'... they probably wanted the 'Z Hotel Tottenham Court Road' on Poland St. I had this last week in the cab and was just as confused. Just a badly named hotel.
Seeing your videos is always quite relaxing. Ever thought of making a hyperlapse of your shift with some smooth music? I think that could be very fun to watch.
26:32 Ah, I once caught a Didi to go to work 2 days after January floods, and I should had dinged the driver for over-reliance on Google Maps rather than "Not using GPS".
can't fault the customers for thinking the ac isn't working when its set to 22c tho. Thats still plenty warm, especially if the door was just open with them getting in.
It's climate control, so doesn't actually mean 22. That's just the most comfortable setting I've found. In the winter 22 runs warm. In the summer 22 runs cool.

You've put out a lot of great content Tom, but videos like this of you going about your work day are still my favourite!
Just about to post exactly the same thing. No need now, you've covered it nicely.
@@lyndonmaddison5860 I agree, getting boring now. Zzzzzzzzzz
Mine too :)
I hope he continue.
Nobody else can make me watch a 30 minute video about their job quite like Tom can.
Agreed!

YESS! Best kind of Tom videos!
Can now do typical January/Feb/Mar workling in London, compare how it differs throughout the year :)
That guy asking if his light is on, I can just feel his pain right there...

Thanks, yea it’s more of a climate control thing… so 22 runs hot in winter, but cold in summer.
22 is a bit toasty for me personally, especially if I've been rushing about all day! 18 all the way! 😂
Climate control. 22 is warm in winter but cold in summer
Given up reading all newspapers now so I do look forward to your Sunday news letter. I am over 7 decades old but your content is always interesting

People may have a lot of luggage, or they may be on a business trip and get it expensed.
some people just hate using the underground.
citystack is awesome! Love these videos atm
I'm loving your work Tom. It's like I'm getting a guided tour of London and its secrets. Oh btw fun fact I used to work at Paddington station
Great video, the newsletters are a great addendum to the channel.
Sunday Summery is always good.
Another entertaining day on the mean streets of London. I hope @CyclingMikey watches your videos. 👍🏻😀
Another great vlog
Plot twist. The first woman that said "the temperature is nice" was being sarcastic
Excellent from a non taxi driving perspective, cheers Tom…👍👌🇮🇲
Yh roll on summer 2023 ☀🌞🕶🌅 winter is horrible dark all time
Love how relaxed these videos are. Have you tried heating the cab to 27 degrees
I missed them videos glad they are badt
I couldn’t work in the city glad I taxi out in the countryside
these videos are my favourite
This is the content I love the day in the job
It looked like it was a pretty warm weather there. People wearing shorts etc. We in Finland have snow ❄ and it's minus 6 degrees Celsius.
Love this, how about taxi bingo? See if you can get hotel, station, POI, restaurant etc in a day/week.......
Nice one!
Hard to believe this is the summer. 😆. It’s March
I will one day be in one of these videos! Bright green delivery van!
I look forward to the day that when I hail a cab on the streets of London, that it's Tom the Taxi Driver who I find. One day :)
Hey Tom!
nice 1 again tom.
I still absolutely love the fact that you include all the clips of cyclists and other red light jumpers with absolutely no commentary on the issue. Silent judgement is the best.

21 or 21.5 if I wanna be a bit warm. I do not even put 22 on as heating in winter.

Well that's an old video haha! Everyone wearing shorts, gives me summer feels already
Tom - great vid as ever. What’s your average mileage a day / year?
I like to play the "why did Tom choose this particular cut?" game. With the answer usually being: because a cyclist is doing something daft
Love you pointing the Acol Bridge Club in West End Lane. fit a digital thermometer in the back of your cab. passengers can observe the true temperature in real time.
Just a point to the air con not being enough for some people. If they was walking about for some time in the heat they could be hot from that also. Where as you have been sitting. Just might help with understanding
Auto 21 is recommended temperature comfortable for most people
Another good video, however if I have the Aircon in my car sat at 22° I literally melt. I know us northerners are more immune to the cold but by 20° I need shorts and a t-shirt .
22 a bit high 20-21 works well in any weather
Another great upload, doing what Tom does best, showing us what a day in the life of a London cabbie' is like.
And TfL drastically slowing down the traffic with even more unnecessary under used cycle lanes.
First job - maybe cos I’m lazy I’d go along the top hat up York Way then get Market and McKenzie onto Holloway Road
Yea was splitting hairs. Mackenzie can get a bit clogged because of the Islington LTN's, especially on a Friday.
Is that the Wealdstone Raider on the bike jumping a red?
aaah finally you drove past my street. Been waiting for that moment! :D
Tom I've watched about 80% of your videos before today I realised Im not subscribed so sorted that out, Great work. Anyway Lower Roberts street please Driver

Not a mystic Meg reference days before she died!
Was that cyclist who ran the red light, the Wealdstone raider!? Looked a lot like him haha
For me 22 degrees is too warm in any vehicle. I'd say 20 degrees is a safer place to be with it on a hot day.
Got it up at 25 during the winter lol. 21 is the classic AC middle ground
@@dreamcrusher112 I guess this is the problem that Tom the Taxi Driver faces... Trying to find something that works for everyone! 🤣

Always had customers ask "how do you open the window" in my Vito.......
I know that these videos are a bit of a hustle, but could we get more of these full days in the job? Every now and then obviously. Thanks!
Tom? Does the air con in the cab work ? 🤣🤣 sorry had to
I was confused about the air con then I realised that the video was filmed back in the summer.
can't fault the customers for thinking the ac isn't working when its set to 22c tho. Thats still plenty warm, especially if the door was just open with them getting in.

22C is in no way "plenty warm". Some of you would surly die of heat stroke if you moved further south. LOL
Cyklist don't need to follow any traffic rules, everybody knows that 😉😅
Hi Tom keep it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6
19/20c is a better temp driver
Not gonna lie if it's a hot day I wouldn't mind whacking the AC down to 16 in a cab to cool off
Tom, I thought your content was recent. When you started talking about air con, I was confused. When was this filmed.
Summer, part of a whole week of shifts from last year
