The guy in the video said it perfectly. In Valorant, if you are in a clutch situation, you either have an advantage or a disadvantage depending on your agent. That is not taking any individual mechanics and skills into account. In CS, if you wanna win a clutch, you're on your own and that's why every play is so memorable and gets the crowd going.

To be fair, Japan crowds are like that, no matter what game or event is happening. They are disciplined to show their suppodr by just clapping and avoiding howls or any loud noises like whistling. It might look like the crowd felt no hype, but it's just how they are disciplined to do.

    • @saladgreens912

For valorant, smurfs will not be banned and even they now have the new rank system to counter smurfs, they are still everywhere. TBF, Japanese crowds, even korean crowds tend to be more quiet until the end. Even in concerts or boxing / mma, the crowds arent rowdy like western countries. I grew up playing cs 1.6 all my life and a little cs go, been playing valorant for 2 years now. Skills are flashy and mechanically cs is harder, but with valorant you have to think more because of these skills, and there are more angles to check / hide / play than cs in my opinion, and valorant abilities actually takes skills to use properly. I've been playing cs since 1.1 or 1.2 and I've never played valorant but you can't compare a Japanese crowd to a Brazilian crowd, with the utmost respect to both cultures and countries, you're comparing the most well mannered, well behaved public to the most passionate and party happy people. Even if you compare the crowds in the same sport, like football or f1, the Japanese are going to be enthusiastic but reserved and the Brazilians will be energetic and going crazy. The other valorant crowd looks like what a crowd at a tournament of 1.6 or GO would look like 10 to 15 years ago, when the scene started to move away from totally wild Lans to a more professional, legitimate E-sport. Plus the crowd was smaller, you get a small cs event and the crowd will be tame too, ie. when they play in Malta, where between 8 and 50 ppl show up for normal games and the final pulls in 200.

Also, you have to take into consideration the what kind of event that is? Which country the event was held? Which team was playing? Or, who's gameplay was showcased on that big screen? A lot of factors has to be taken into consideration if we're going to judge crowd reaction. I don't understand why people has to put drama between 2 games, can't they coexist together without the fanbase going for each other's throat?

Context: from what my memory can tell this was the first time Competitive North America won something as big as this tournament. Cloud 9 were not just the underdogs, they were expected to loose by a lot of people and be one of the first to be kicked out. Only then to say "hold my beer" as they went and win the entire tournament. Mind you this is not just an NA thing, Every major team that could qualify was there. It had one of the longest and nail biting grand finals as they kept going into overtime as both FaZe and Cloud 9 refused to give up. With the entire crowd chanting
"SEND THEM HOME!!" Also other streamers were tuning in while they were streaming because of how big of a moment this was for NA csgo

I think a lot of the crowd culture evolves over time. Valorant hasn't had a crowd for a full event until like 6 months ago, first crowd was at Masters Copenhagen. And so the crowd culture hasn't really been made. Masters Tokyo the event going on right now has an amazing crowd but still it doesn't compare to CSGO yet, because again, that crowd 1 doesn't have a Japanese team to cheer for and 2 because it hasn't had a chance to evolve yet. CSGO has had crowds for so long, and so that culture has been made. The clouted teams don't really exist in Valorant, so for example, Sentinels are the most famous org in Valorant. Anyone from anywhere will support Sentinels because they are sentinels. In CS there is so many teams to cheer for, Faze, Vitality, Heroic. Another thing is, Valorant grew in the covid era, so event also just didn't really have the ability to shout. If you look at the regional league crowds they are very hype now. The The culture 1 hasn't been evolved yet and 2 its just not as global as CS. But, I am a kinda biased Valorant player.

  • @carlbot2

Speaking as an OW player, it feels really weird to hear people say that Valorant is a fast/action-packed/ADD game. OW is the game for 2-second attention spans and we know it. Valorant feels like so slow in comparison just because action is so spread out. As to the "Cassidy effect," we find moments like that interesting because normally the moment someone uses high noon, everyone is somehow behind a wall and also you just die because you have to stand still, so seeing more than a single high noon elim is actually kinda wild.
It's fine to have crazy moments when all of your moments are at least a little bit crazy.
