Cool video here thanks much. Curious: with these, have you ever swapped drive out with larger HDD? Thimking about getting cheap Pro on line and using one of my spare 20tb drives in it. TIA for the info here, slick workspace 👍👌

Thank you. These aren't really made to open and swap the drives like this? amzn.to/4eVrrpn
If you're buying a nice drive like the G Drive you should leave it sealed... Don't void the warranty 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@Zachus all good, thanks. never had long term luck with these types of docks. Unexplained disconnects, bottlenecks and never seem overly stable for larger Xfer. I’m becoming a Thunderbolt snob lol, and like the stability & passthru to my larger RAID array. Have 2x of the newer SanDisk pro 22tb, and they honestly don’t perform the same as these gdrives unfortunately, and looking for better solution.
Sidenote: I don’t know if my career would survive showing up with one of these docks on set lol.

If anyone reading this been down this road, love to hear if you’ve found larger HDDs to be compatible. Seems like 18tb+ can run into compatibility issues.

    Hi
I want to buy this hard drive but I have a question (hopefully not a stupid question) if I plugged in a old G drive into the USBc port on the back of this new pro drive and the new pro drive is connected to my Mac Studio with a thunderbolt cable will my Mac Studio be able to see the old G drive? Thanks

Simple answer is Yes. I have this one and an older one and I have both connected and they work fine. Just remember like I said in the video, use something like BackBlaze (secure.backblaze.com/r/01d4i1) especially with older hard drives. This way if they fail you will not lose all your files. Hope this helps.

Hey Zachus. I have two G-Drive PRO SSD 960GBs from 2019 that are basically unusable when recording audio in Logic ProX. The sound of the drive actually travels through the Thunderbolt cable and prints itself into any audio recording. Its like a bleeping sound. Super weird and very annoying. Have you had any issues regarding audio recordings? I bought it for essentially running all my VSTs with large sample libraries.

That's very strange. I've never had this issue with any of mine. Especially a SSD should not be making any noise... Did you try replacing it?

What do you use to backup in the cloud?
