    " A Glorious Adventure,
Kill , Kill , and be Killed "
" Beautiful ideals were painted for our boys who were sent out to die.
This was the 'war to make the world safe for democracy.'
No one told them that dollars and cents were the real reason.
No one mentioned to them, as they marched away, that their going and their
dying would mean huge war profits. No one told these American soldiers that
they might be shot down by bullets made by their own brothers here.
No one told them that the ships on which they were going to cross might be
torpedoed by submarines built with United States patents. They were just
told it was to be a "glorious adventure".
Thus, having stuffed patriotism down their throats, it was decided to make
them help pay for the war, too. So, we gave them the large salary of $30 a
    month!
All that they had to do for this munificent sum was to leave their dear ones
behind, give up their jobs, lie in swampy trenches, eat canned 'Pigswill' (when
they could get it) and kill and kill and kill...and be killed "
    - Major General, Smedley D. Butler,
one of America's Most Decorated Soldiers,
who wrote the short book " War is a Racket ".

The sacrifice Gordon and Shugart made definitely saved Mike Durant's life. The entire crew of Super 6-4 survived the initial crash and copilot Ray Frank and crew chiefs Tommie Fields and Bill Cleveland defended the crash until the snipers showed up. Durant was left inside the chopper because of his broken back and leg. The snipers moved the crew to the tail section of the aircraft but for some reason put Durant against a tree away from the others. They all fought until they were overrun. In talking to someone who is a modern day crew chief, one thing that was changed because of the battle is that the miniguns are now powered by a back-up battery in case the helicopter crashes and loses power. The miniguns could have given them a better chance at survival had they worked.

Wow, helicopters in movies always bring such a dynamic and thrilling element to the screen, don't they? The way they maneuver through the skies can be truly captivating. And pairing those scenes with haunting theme music? That must create an incredibly atmospheric experience. It's amazing how soundtracks can significantly enhance the impact of a movie scene, adding depth and emotion to the visual spectacle. Helicopter scenes, in general, are a testament to the creativity and technical skill in filmmaking, offering viewers an exhilarating perspective that's hard to match. Just imagining those scenes is exciting! 🚁🎶✨

I flew Blackhawks in Somalia but don't recognize the "LOH" aircraft the movie showed. We had them in Vietnam though! Whenever we had troops rappel we would joke they were " dopes on a rope" but hoped things would work out for them. Often, they did not! One morning during our daily briefing one of the pilots asked the Commander "Do we kill the people today or do we feed them?" This really happened as that is how fucked up things were. "We" had no idea why we were there or what we were doing! Things appear to not have changed much! Best of luck!

The movie was an excellent tribute but there were several things left out or briefly touched on, you never see the SEAL sniper's deployed to assist in the operation and the Air Force PJs only briefly portrayed when they played such a pivotal role in keeping the wounded alive. I don't know maybe my memory is a little hazy since I was only a 19 year old specialist on that faithful day. For the longest time I wouldn't watch the movie.

I was denied entry into the US Air Force back in 2011 for having a "slightly curved spine" beyond a certain parameter. I was told by an officer I couldn't join. I drove home, completely breaking down because it was always my dream to be in the Air Force. I was crushed. I was told I couldn't get a waiver. But, thanks to some solid advice from the good ol' parents, I saw a spinal surgeon from Stanford hospital to give me a proper eval. He drafted a letter saying my back was fine. I sent it to one of the recruiting commanders. I received a special waiver. I was in. I graduated Air Force BMT in 2012 and here I am, 2016, still in after about 5 years. I'll be reenlisting, switching jobs. I want to be an aircrew member. "Don't give up, even when things seem to keep you down."

Cliff Wolcott flew me back from range 29 at Ft Campbell on 10/27/92 so i would be there when my daughter was born, he went down in the first Blackhawk on that day in Mog. . to this day i still have that attachment to him. when we talk about her being born at FT Campbell i ALWAYS remember the flight, the fact that we were in an armed bird so we were not allowed to land at the hospital and had to divert to CAAF where Joey Sorenson (a SPC 4 in the Armt. shop was waiting on the tarmac to take me to the hospital) he had a 280Z and he proceeded to run it flat out down Nightstalker way scaring the shit out of me (there is a 90 degree turn at the end of the airstrip) i screamed "joey i want to live to see my kid" we beat my wife to the hospital(we lived on post (our neighbor took her), i get there i ask where is my wife? they say she isn't here, so im panicking, as my wife waddles up and says im here. if you served you get this. Thank you SIR to Cliff, Mr Wolcott. NSDQ!

Our soldiers are badass and they don't give a shit what the motive is. If our country calls on them they serve without question. Maybe your thinking of our boys who were sent off to die in vietNam or Japan but not these days. In fact that might be insulting to a soldier.

To whoever said jacked up on steroids, I'm in the british army infantry(5RRF), if you take steroids of any form (even whey protein that has a small amount of steroid in it in some circumstances) your military career is over, I don't know if that's true in the US but seems to me the UK and US pretty much share the same rules, Its true some people do pis themselves when they first see combat, but it's like any job after a while and experience you get used to it, soldiers are tough mentally and physically and need to be for their job no matter what you do within the military, you are trained to deal with the mental and physical side of things, but it will not prepare you for the real thing, so yeah soldiers have a right to be afraid, we are fighting for a cause, whether it be good or bad, we just do what's best for our country and our people...
