why exactly are they thrifting if they can afford an accessory that is $8000. the point of thrift stores is for people in your community who can not always afford clothes, or other daily necessities. why the fuck is thrifting a trend. this makes me so angry my god.
Hey there! Fun fact: only about 15% of clothes in thrift stores end up being purchased, the rest go to a landfill. Even if you have money, thrifting can be a cheap way to get unique and sustainable pieces. Millions of tonnes of clothing end up in landfills every year. Let me emphasize that thrift stores are NOT just for the poor or needy.
@@theteatree2457 that's a valid point; but another thing to consider is that since people with expendable income have begun to frequent thrift stores and made it into a "trend," thrift stores have in turn begun to hike up their prices to unreasonable amounts for people just looking to clothe themselves with what little money they have. and sure we can blame this on corporate greed, but in some cases correlation does indicate causation. so I still stand by my point unfortunately, it was a good addition though.
Okay no. Maybe that's how they started but in Australia it's been about giving clothes a second Life (or multiple lives). There's actually nothing wrong with going and buying second hand clothes as it's sustainable. Stop trying to shame people over doing something good. I agree that the price hike is shit, but that's an "issue" with the store, and even then, if it's a charity store the money is being put to good use (hopefully).
@@TheLunablackheart Personally I feel no moral dilemma shaming rich people LMAO. I'm not saying the average person shopping at a thrift store is evil, the average person is usually one major incident away from being broke themselves. And I do actually think your sustainability point is a good one, it's probably a good idea to buy clothes secondhand over using fast fashion outlets that exploit their workers. But also, there are a lot of thrift stores that are for profit organizations. Value Village (which at least where I'm from is one of the more, if not most popular locations) was actually sued in 2017 for intentionally deceving consumers and donors by providing misleading information that gave the impression that the company itself was a charity. So unfortunately, I still fail to see how the people in this video (whom I was originally criticizing) are doing a "good" thing. Once again I unfortunately do not feel one iota of shame shaming rich people. I just personally feel there is room for criticism of this industry.
