    Microbrand is like microbrew. It evokes hand-crafted, artisanal products that are made with love and passion.

      Actually No. It evokes cheap Chinese manufacturing with maybe Swiss made movement. Those models coast about 30% or less the be made and the markup is insane

      I think this is a fair assumption. For most watch enthusiasts who live outside the Uk and US and have to pay exorbitant taxes on importing anything close to luxury, we prefer to go to brick and mortar dealers when we travel and purchase watches. I noticed most microbrands are available online only. I saw this video and instantly felt like I needed to add a farer and echo/neutra to my collection. I just love the finish and designs of both brands.

    • @trevorgray4852
      @trevorgray4852 Před 3 měsíci +1

      If you Google "what is a watch micro brand" one of the first things that pops up is "watches only sold online". Butttttt I think as long as they keep prices low, or at least better then big box brand alternatives and continue to have better or the same features as the big guys there still a micro. An example is Micro's with metal bands seem to have micro adjust way more often then the bigger box bands and the micros are usually cheaper as well, more features lower price. Also forgot advertising, micros usually don't have many adds thus the spending a company would need to gain from advertising is not passed onto the customer. So having a brick and motor store is going to increase the company's spending buy renting or building that space and paying employees. Undoubtedly prices are likely to rise or the company will start producing higher end pieces and changing more or more then they normally would have to make up for the extra spending on there end.

    I have never bought a watch for more than 500 dollars, but the Farer Lander 4 captivated me at first sight. The combination of colors seemed incredible to me. I had my doubts about buying it since it's a relatively high price for a not very well-known brand, but I started to investigate and the reviews about this brand were very good. After following the watch, I noticed that there were only two left (as you can select the serial number) and the next day there was only one left, so I didn't want to wait for the watch to be restocked and I bought it right away with its Marine Street Venere strap and the classic steel bracelet. I'm excited for it to arrive 😁

    Nice pieces and yes, lets end the micro brand label. Since Christopher Ward and other brands have started to blur the lines between the minor and major players, using the term microbrand is becoming a little redundant, When you factor in the Ali Express brands moving from homage to original designs, the picture becomes even more complex.

    Totally agree with the dial size being the main visual part of a watch that shows how big it will wear. I don’t know why more reviewers don’t tell you the dial size when giving you the specs. I can’t think of one CZcams reviewer that does it.

    Yes, Mark from Long Island Watch rails at being labelled as a micro-brand, and rightly so. He has a number of permanent employees and a bricks and mortar facility. Maybe that's the distinction. Thank goodness for small brands, there's no way I can justify $10,000 for something I don't need. Small brands keep me in watch collecting.

I am yet to review it officially on the channel but with this being my first hands on with the brand it I do understand the hype and I think it is totally justified. Have my eyes on Echo Netura, the brand name is a weird one but that aside also looks like very well thought out design language.

    I don't disagree with your deconstruction of the term "micro brand" but I do t know if we can abandon it yet. Currently it separates the enthusiast-driven small brands from the large brands who are solely driven by the need to turn a profit for their share holders.

    • @trevorgray4852
      @trevorgray4852 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes I agree. Micros often offer better or the same features as big box brands but are usually cheaper. Example micros with metal bands tend to have miroc adjustment build in the band where as the big guys usually don't unless you pay way more. One of the key factors for mircos is they don't spend much is any seemingly on advertising, if you know you know. Finding a new micros brand is like a kid going for a walk and finding a candy store he never knew existed. Also when companies spend alot of $ on advertising that will inevitably raise the price of the watches because they have to make up for the $ spend on advertising and if they have brick and mortar stores paying employees and rent/building the store the cost is also passed down to the customer. Lastly packaging, micros tend to have more minimalist packaging compared the big box guys, would you have have your $ going towards better packaging that will end up in a drawer somewhere or go towards a better watch?

    Perhaps better not to use the term ‘brand’ and completely omit it. Better to use ‘family owned’ or ‘small manufacturer’. Using the term ‘micro’ insinuates insignificant and is totally meaningless to describe something, unless you can barely see it.
