  • Bubunne (or Bubunia) is a matriarchal totalitarian country led by the ruthless La Générale (Generaless). In Bubun, the roles of men and women are reversed, up to the point where the male population is deprived of any civil rights, including work, education, military service, freedom of marriage etc.

There is anovel called "Egalia's daughters" by Gert Brantenberg. It even turns around speech. Most male readers don't understand and feel offended by assuming the author wanted to establish such a society, which wasn't the aim. This is what the women in Afghanistan are or will likely be going through right now. Same in other middle-eastern or southwestern asian countries. This movie is appreciated and needed, because it shines a light on those that are forced to live like this, in a perspective many in power don't consider or feel empathy for, being the ones in control, never having to live like this. Nobody deserves to be treated like they're less human to another person in their society.

@Mcheetah The way I see it, Jacky behaved the same way when he was a woman or a man. The generaless was more so specifically attracted to Jacky in general. It probably didn't really matter what gender he was. However, I do have another theory. The generaless was actually gay her whole life, she was taught/told to essentially BE a woman, therefore act gay. The thing is, it's established that Jacky is an extremely attractive guy. Which is the reason why generaless was so attracted to him, instead of any other woman at the party. He still has his "male features", which is probably what she saw in him.

Yet we do this all the time to girls and don't care about how they feel maybe uncomfortable, annoyed etc. The message of this movie came across quite well. 1. It really puts things into perspective when you see the actual absurdity of gender discrimination THIS bad. Worst part is in some parts of the world it is this bad, but in the roles we're familiar with.

The United States is one of the richest and most 'developed' countries in the world, but doesn't have a law on mandatory maternity leave? Oppression compared to other counties, of course it's further ahead, but its last compared to its counterparts in the 'developed world' . Sure comparing it to Afghanistan or something lol, but that's like going aww we do the bare minimum so it can't be that bad.

I see man in the comments saying that they rather stay at home cooking and cleaning, except they forgot the part about having no rights and being sexualized everyday. Women only now have the rights that they long fought for, and mostly man don't think that's a big deal, the fight is still not over, man still get paid more, respect more and is seeing as a more capable being.

men in the comments laughing at the absurdity of this consept- women go out and feel every bit of this daily. i could be dressed in sweatpants and a full long winter coat and still feel eyes on me. probably adds to why i haven't left my room in months. it makes you feel good when you're 13, but then you realize that its not the way you think. you realize those men want to use ur body instead of appreciating your beauty. at 13,14,15,16 i was taken advantage of by thinking it was a compliment. after that, I realized it was a threat that if the perfect oppurtunity for that man was to arise, he would not stop himself. multiply that by 30 grown men + guys ur age at the time per day, and the opportunity arises pretty commonly.
