If they run they're an AI; if they stand still they're a well disciplined AI.
Get Some!
"HOW CAN YOU KILL STUPID AI"
"SIMPLE YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEAD IT SO MUCH"
How much firepower you want in a helicopter?
Mil design bureau: yes
Any idea if AI for ground troops (infantry) will get improved to react etc? ie. not just stand about in the open.
From what i understand and have read, ground AI(as in not just programmed shooting at enemies or moving a bit when a nearby friendly is shot) is supposed to be coming with the dynamic campaign. Which has been in the works for a long time now. ED mentions ground AI pretty sparingly, but if they were to release the dynamic campaign without it it would be a flop. As it stands now getting AI to act like an actual person requires a shit ton of programming events and triggers in the editor. I still don't understand how AI hasn't been improved yet though. Something simple as making AI not deadly accurate with an AK wouldn't be that difficult i'd imagine and greatly improve gameplay for helis.
@@JD96893 Because the game is already taxing enough on the few CPU cores its able to use. If you were to throw more complex AI it at it, without improving the engine, it would likely break the game. IF they coded it right and offloaded it to another core or two, we might be able to enjoy more complex AI but I just cant see that happening dramatically until Vulkan API (which is delayed and unknown at this point). Ever been in a server with very complex scripts and ground unit movements? Imagine that, but also on your own personal CPU which is probably already taxed enough trying to render.
@@Munky332 It would actually be LESS demanding if properly done.
As right now the infantry AI will shoot long bursts, that are aimed with that same basic DCS manner (target is inside engagement ring, shoot at it!) and every bullet is modeled with a Star Wars blaster beam (because ED programmer writes in the code itself "It looks cooler!"). Every bullet is calculated with a trajectory and effect.
For every burst, every individual soldier will check and calculate LOS, and propability at what angle to shoot at the target.
All that is very heavy for CPU as lot of processing is wasted to just put laser beams and thousands of bullets in the air in few seconds.
Just limit the shooting to two modes. A calm and panic. A calm mode is where soldier shoots single shot once every few seconds. The panic is where the soldier will shoot few bullets per second to longer burst. And that should have small change to occur and last only some time, like 5% when getting shot at and last only 15 seconds.
Then remove the laser beams. They are useless and totally unrealistic. Only show the muzzle flash, so you can see it in low light and somewhat in some direct sunlight conditions.
And then as well remove completely the impact effect. Completely useless to have a huge smoke to raise on every bullet that hits somewhere. Sure you can get that to happen on some dry areas with clay soil etc. But not so critical if it is missing.
Now you have shrank the CPU demands to 5-10% of the current state. The firefights will last 10-30 times longer, because there is less bullets flying and less death to happen. So gameplay is a much greater experience when firefight is not over in 15 seconds, and no more clever heavy scripting is required to get the AI stay alive so player can see something happening before it is over.
And do same for all such guns, tracers are removed, the dust particle visual effects are removed or clearly minimized, adding big benefit to lower CPU and GPU requirements.
And it all becomes more realistic, you only see muzzle flashes and no more star wars fighting. No more infantry sniping your helicopter from 600 meters like nothing. And it becomes more challenging to use all kind weapons.
@@JD96893 I do play mainly on a server where the AI are programmed to move and try to hide once they've been engaged and after a short time they will pop out and start shooting again. It's pretty nice.
@@deekamikaze Wow that's amazing! Someone told me that would be impossible now due to performance hits, sounds like it was BS. Did you see any performance problems?
YES! Finally. My favorite module in DCS, I've been waiting for this since day one. Thank you WP345, for the concise showcase.👍
nice. looking forward to it
Very nice video I look forward to playing around with the gunners
Very cool! The hind is my all time favorite helicopter
Mine to
Outstanding.
I thought this was an official video for a moment. Subscribed
Very exciting! So, there can only be a gun on the left or right but not both simultaneously? And can we swap between seats in multiplayer if there are only two players? Eg, can the pilot or copilot switch to the gunner with a hotkey or do they need to re-slot?
It blocks a door for infantry inside so i dont think it was ever mounted in both sides irl
iirc they could use the lighter GPMG PKP or PKM which would be neat to see also
@@l.a.xgunner yes then you could have 1 on each side. Like the did on sone of them in real life
what would be cool to see too, once we get infantry in the helicopter is if they can shoot out, the real Mi-24 had mounts and gun-ports on both sides of the helicopter for AK rifles. Imagine the sight of that barreling in, with AK fire flashing out the gun ports, the heavy machine gun slamming out the side, the 30mm main cannon thundering off and rockets firing off the rails. The armor and the sheer firepower is makes the Hind such a amazing helicopter.
@@miller8097 There is video on the internet with double PKMs. So why not double Kords, but like you said it will remove the infantry access so I don't really get why that configuration would be used.
oh thats nice finally a small update for redfor
I really would like to see more Mi-24P videos!
Well thought out giving us players a choice with head movement separate from gun sight, very nice from the coder/ developer .
So excited
Reminds me of that scene in “Red Dawn”.
(Hind gunship intensifies)
"Get some..! Get some..!"
Voice Attack comes to mind.
is there a way to control the camera and weapon movement with the mouse without restarting the game if you started it with track ir on?
All hail Himd
Out of curiosity does it also remove bombs and external tanks on inner pylons as well?
Get some!
This is one of the Mi-24 KORD gunner moments of all time
So I can set up some infantry and fly over and shout "get some" from the side door gunner position?
Sir, do you have recordings of patrol or combat missions?
Just got out of prison, so happy you finally made it to 100k
Hope this works in VR, so far gunning from VR due to the view doesnt work too well in other helicopters
Same, I'd build a dedicated door gunner controller just to do this.
Whe need Fuel module and bomb dispenser module for the Hind.
Have like 4 dudes in back with ak’s with jester control
"Speznaz, dokladivayte!"(c)Rambo 3
Will it be possible to switch positions on the guns to left or right, while being in the gunner position?
From everything everyone else is saying, you can't in flight because having both guns wouldn't leave room to get in the back, and even if you did, there's not room for both guns and both gunners. It does appear however to be possible with light machine guns with a bit of effort.
awww yeah RED DAWN!
do you have to buy the aircraft’s
so that means the mi24 cockpit is complete?
Are you using TrackIR or Tobii for head tracking?!
Short and sweet! Don't actually HAVE DCS but I always drop in to keep abreast (ooooERR missus!!).
What do you use for headtracking?
Like video
How does it work in VR?
So what do you shoot? Trees?
hahaha awesome, I always loved that kinda stuff, I can't wait to circle my big ol armored war helicopter around with fire spewing out the side.
But I assume if your buddy wants to be door gunner they'd have to buy the full Hind module, right? That's kinda too bad, being a door gunner would be a great way for new people to try out DCS (especially since it's something everyone is already familiar with from conventional shooter games) in a fun, social context where they're chatting and riffing with a friend and able to ask questions, but I can see why it'd be kind of a pain in the ass to program it to work that way.
Dont forget your friend can get two weeks free trial of most modules, plenty of time to convince them to get into dcs
Oh yeah I forgot about that, thanks for the reminder~
Hopefully won't be bugged like the Mi-8 door gunner position.
This is a multicrew option for the people who do not have a load of time but want to jump in with their friends!
On the one hand i love the fact that you can mount the gun finally on one side of the helicopter. On the other hand i love that you can mount the gun on the other side of the helicopter! Shame you need to sacrifice a weapon slot though
I am not so sure that weapon slot is realistic limitation. It seems to be more like a ED laziness to either:
A) Limit the gun travel artificially to not destroy the station.
B) Avoid implementing proper damage modeling for the weapon in station.
C) To disallow someone jumping in and destroying your aircraft from stupid bullying.
As in real photos of the 12.7 mm mounted in Mi-24, there has weapons been in the innerward stations simultanously.
As if you didn't have enough firepower already!
Come get some.
They have words on Kord mirrored. Why?
Why only Kord I want KPV
legit forgot the mi-24 was also a transport heli
Uhm.....feeds from the right and ejects rounds on the right?
Yup it does.
Hope you make more MI-24 videos, it’s by far one of my favorite helicopters!
One of my favorites too!
I wonder if there would be an option to mount other Mags in the future, such as the Browning M2HB
Why?
@@Cesko_Plny_Fialovejch_Zmrdu because M2s are everywhere irl, and some PMCs have Hinds
@@Tank50us A PMC Hind variant would be dope. Mixture of western and Eastern weapons
"Mi" is pronounced like short "Mee". It's two first letters of general designer's last name. Same with "Ka" (Kamov), "Su" (Suhoi) and other soviet era aircrafts.
We want a6 intruder
Left control windows plus three… that’s what I hate about simming.
This is a lesson in how to make a cool helicopter cooler.
is the mi8 door gunner fixed tho?
and multicrew
Get some! Get some! Get some!!
Kinda sounds like Spud…Aaaaassss Aalllllwaaaays
I didn't even know the mi24 could have door gunners would be nice to have a more varied weapon choice tho like lighter machine guns
What in the hell took you so long to bring this option up? This does look great. Will you have the option to just have a standard PKM door gunner?
Also, would you guys consider having the Super Hind Mk. III in the near future?
PKM Door gunners and Super Hind has my vote🤗
RAMBO 3.....
Get sum!
Well, I had no idea the Hind could have door gunners... Can you only have one though?
The door with the door gun isn't big enough for normal use (unlike say the Huey or Blackhawk door guns which leave a lot of usable space on the doors), so if you have both door guns the rear cabin has no entrance access unless you dismantle one of the guns first, which isn't ideal if you happen to reenact Hostomel.
I wish they had gunners on both sides... just like in Neal Ellis video: czcams.com/video/I1DCxpnqUzE/video.html
That's some dakka
Sure is! Should be fun!
I’m hoping you will allow this on your server. I’m looking forward to it.
Hopefully the AI gunner will repeat yelling “get some” when he is firing away
But wouldn't it be in Russian?
BLYAT
@@csdigitaldesign получить некоторые!
GUNNER POSITIONS IN THE HUEY AND MI24 SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED TO MODULE OWNERS. Such a stupid decision. Why would my friends drop 100 dollars on a module for a weekend ride as a gunner?
Totally logical argument. The door gunners should be free seats for anyone to join (if they know password, given permission etc).
There would be a lot more fun to play with even friends who don't want to fly DCS otherwise, when you could get them to sit as door gunners in casual game manner.
The online servers would have more players join with helicopter flights in the combat zone with proper door gun positions.
@@paristo Genuinly. Theres no way to justify spending 80 dollars just to shoot a machine gun out of a heli
@@MyHunter9090 There isn't. Neither there is to spend $80 dollars for getting to fly with someone in the trainer like L-39, C-101, Yak-52 or MB-339.
Seriously, those should only require one license to fly from backseat. And then allow _anyone_ to enter to front cockpit _as long the license owner stays seated in the backseat_.
Zadam! Now you have actual trainer aircraft to use. A virtual airwing has few people to have license for trainer, and they will take new gamers to training, without requiring them to own the license in them.
And no, the free trial doesn't help in that at all. It is not same thing.
The same thing is with UH-1, Mi-8 and so on as you say, door gunners should be free to be seated.
Having a four or even five players to allocate UH-1 or Mi-8 is crazy to think that everyone should have that license.
The multicrew aircraft would become more sensible if some seats could be free.
In F-14 it is completely understandable that RIO station requires license, or that Mi-8 co-pilot on right side requires license. But how about having a flight engineer in center that would as well be free?
Now you have a third position for players to sit and enjoy a ride while waiting to get to use gun in doors.
This same thing is a requirement for future ground vehicle modules. You never get a four players to man example western MBT or IFV. Driver, Loader, Gunner and Commander.
How about having a commander requiring the license, and he can invite players in specific seats? Like get someone act as a driver for them, or as a gunner if someone wants to be a commander. Or license owner can act as gunner and driver, while free is as commander and loader. And if there is no one, then AI will take their place.
@@paristo that's true, never thought about trainer aircrafts but that sounds like the perfect way to get people into the game. 100% a good idea. For the f14 it makes sense why the RIO and pilot require a license as both have full on modules to deal with unlike the trainers where it's just flying. It's just stupid that a Huey with 5 players costs $400
Sorry not the Huey, the mi24
What's a Russian Gunship doing here?
Left =or= right? But why can't we have both? :D
Anyone who runs is an Azov! Anyone who stands still is a well-disciplined Azov!
Those Russians will stick MGs anywhere
