      In my opinion, if a puzzle lends itself to alternative solution, it isn't well-designed. It's a beautiful piece, certainly, but like a few other puzzles I've bought, it's sadly not what I would want as a puzzle.

    There’s the long and boring way, work out the correct solution to a puzzle, or Mr Puzzle’s way, which is quick, efficient, and much more entertaining, just rip the contraption to pieces, job done! The man is brilliant.

    "This year's Puzzle competition goes to Mr. Puzzle, who solved the 'round about' disassembly puzzle in 34 minutes and 13 seconds. While this is much longer than second place, he also managed to disassemble the puzzle into 2 separate oak trees and 5 pounds of iron ore before putting it back together."

    They should make the other pins half a millimeter longer and loc-tite the threads. Then all of the pins would rotate freely but only one would be removable.
    That's how I'd do it anyway. I'd call this one a good beta still.

    • @Mr.Puzzle
      @Mr.Puzzle  Před 5 lety +8

      Yes, that would fix it!

    • @EleanorPeterson
      @EleanorPeterson Před 5 lety +5

      Agreed, Johnny Steen. It's definitely a 'mistake' having a tension-critical sliding mechanism that can be adjusted unintentionally. Your solution is spot on. On the other hand... overtightening the screws (without any threadlocking goo on them) would be a neat way of rendering the box fully inaccessible. Especially if you used (dry) bolts with left-handed threads! I think I'd use the box to store my tubes of thread-locking goo...
