Sleep Token! "Take Me Back to Eden" has some rap elements but it's a genre blend that you'd really dig. They're a Metal group but blend in so many genres, hip hop & rnb & country/folk, its such an interesting take on heavier music you'd really dig it.
Also Wax! Wax has been one of my favorite rappers for a long time, very lyrical, great for your type of breakdown. If you do check out Wax listen to Coins or "Raps over EOM beat". EOM was his producer who sadly passed but they were an iconic duo.

Dimash is fluent in two languages. Russian and his native tongue Kazakh. His English is also very good and he is constantly improving it. He also knows and understands a few words and sentences in Mandarin. In the meantime he can sing in about 15 or 16 languages, but he does it phonetically.
He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that.
The kobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable.
Stranger was written by the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. He has come out of retirement to work with Dimash. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him.The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship.
He wrote this song and others especially for Dimash’s wide vocal range.
Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range (no kidding), like Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You'll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It's more of a father-son relationship.
Please react to Olimpico from his Arnau concert in 2019 next. In this song he sings in Italian. You can find it on Igor Krutoy‘s Channel. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. It was written for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus 2019. And that’s why the lyrics are also very motivating.
This song and this performance from this Arnau concert is my absolute favourite🥰 I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I always get breathlessness. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so commanding😱. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. If you don't know what the song is about, you'd think he was going to war and is calling his army to a lost battle 😅! It’s absolutely stunning. And I don't even mean the vocal part, but also his stage presence. The whole package. Oh wow I’m starting to rave again…🤤 Sorry but I can’t help it🥺. I swear it is mind-blowing 🤯

You got it. I also believe that Dimash is a man of natural elegance, charm, charisma, style, showmanship and, yes, physical beauty. There is currently not one on the world stage with equal artistic prowess and dignity. And to crown those givens, he is soulful and humble. His musical artistry defies description. As a technician he can't be faulted. While vocal nerds analyse him to distraction (and I have enjoyed their different approaches), fall in love and then can only marvel at his mastery and learn. His voice touches our hearts and souls with his powerful, velvety bass/baritone or his insane lyrical soprano. There are those, who out of snobbery/ignorance or sheer emotional vacuousness, deny Dimash the praise he truly deserves already now as a young artist. Their loss! Dimash has only just begun and will continue to rise to ever greater heights.
If anyone had told me I would be listening to "schmalzy" music in my advanced years, I would have been offended.
But as you rightly point out, it's not just Dimash's voice that wows but the way he blends different genres, his artful delivery, passion and his old soul.

He speaks 2 languages fluently, Kazakh and Russian, he speaks conversational English and a few phrases in Chinese (Mandarin). And you are right that is the Kobyz played by Olzhas Qurmanbek a phenominal musician. Dimash puts his heart and soul into most of his songs, even if he didn't write it himself. Igor Krutoy wrote the music (the piano man) and American poet Sharon Vaughn wrote the lyrics and Dimash was the one who chose to have the kobyz play throughout the song. We also have lyrics by Sharon Vaughn (USA) and arrangements by Dimitri Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan)!

From what I've read, Dimash treats his whole body as an instrument, the way he moves to create his sound and the way he cares about every aspect of his body's care, like he gave up all cold drinks since he was 10 yo because warm is better for his voice. I really like your format of jumping right into the performance and having quick but real reactions!

I first heard him sing when he sang the Kazakhstan national anthem before the Canelo vs GGG fight last year. I was blown away.. idk how nobody else I watched the fight with mentioned anything about it. It was stuck in my head a few weeks later and I looked it up on CZcams. That’s when I heard sos and all his other songs and I was like woooowwww how tf have I never heard of this guy??

I get that this is somewhat of a rhetorical question but in case you do wonder: its the genre of music, and his promotion (especially in the western world) which is whats stopping him.
Unfortunately, with the way the music industry is, its very difficult for someone like Dimash to just enter the scene. Hardwork and talent doesn't mean much if you don't have good promotion, which he unfortunately does not have in the west.
He could sign with some labels and quickly reap the benefits, but he wishes not to, and wishes to take a more careful and calculated approach so as to not have his creative liberties taken from him. He is very stubborn in that sense. Luckily for us, he has met with countless musicians in the US and he knows how he can make it, its just a matter of when he'll be happy to take the opportunity.

I'm soooo happy you discovered him when singing the Kazakh National Anthem at the fight! A lot of other people discovered him through that too just like you did. In fact there was a bit of a social media storm on TikTok and Insta with people asking WHO. IS. THAT. GUY?? Some national news channels accused him of lip-synching when he wasn't. NOBODY else can sing it like that live, and the screens above him weren't synchronised with his lips so there was a delay if you watched him on the screens. He did sing it live. Even the girls in the ring behind him were grinning from ear to ear by the time he'd finished. They knew it was real. That fight was a perfect vehicle for him to open up America a little bit to his voice. He can and does sing everything. Most people, after listening to a range of his songs, end up saying that he's the best singer in the world. I wouldn't disagree ❤❤

Yes. At the beginning sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. That and the use of the fa minor key in the composition gives the vibe of Middle East /oriental/ exotic sound.
Think he´s singing to migrants in general: "New ground far as I can see, new ground underneath my feet, Stranger in a stranger land, new chance to see who I am if I have the strength to begin again"

If you are keen on Dimash's breathiness techniques, I recommend you react to "Ikanaide" from the Tokyo Jazz Festival. It was presented while in studio due to covid. This song was Dimash's first interpretation in the Japanese original version. Because of the accent quality, many Japanese reactors' first thought Dimash had to be fluent in the language but no, he sang it phonetically. He did cover this song in its Mandarin version years before. Both versions pull my heart strings, anytime I listen to either versions.

    • @stellamont
      @stellamont Před 8 měsíci +12

@@JeanneGwerz Dimash singing in a almost perfect Italian and Japanese is a bonus for me. His Chinese songs are far from perfect and the Chinese dears adore him! if Dimash had released a song in Portuguese that was so iconic as SOS for him, I won't have any problems that he had some words wrong. I speak a little French and I understood most of the song at the first time. What I noticed is that people as me that have an accent can understand better than the natives. Maybe because we are not expecting to listen to the exact words but words with accents or minor mistakes. And saying Dimash doesn't put any effort in something like this is not true. Some languages are easier than others.
I am studying a little Kazakh and the sounds in his mother tongue are very different. I see as a miracle that he can learn any song phonectly when most of the sounds he doesn't even recognize.
I teach Portuguese for foreigners and what I can say to you is that every languages have sounds that a foreigner can't hear, that it is not in your "sounds I recognize". Most of my Russian students even with 4 or 5 years talking Portuguese can't hear the difference from "avó" and "avô", for example. Something that is so clear for a child in Brazil. I study Mandarim and there is a sound there is not any similar in Portuguese. I sometimes hear it as a "j", sometimes as a "r". My brain is trying to find something similar, like when you go from one radio station to another in an old radio.
So learning phonetically a song is a big achievement using a lot of effort!

    • @JeanneGwerz
      @JeanneGwerz Před 8 měsíci

@@stellamont Thank you for your very interesting reaction. I know you are right...in a certain way.
A vocal coach explained the meaning of "the motherly tongue ". He said that every child is born with the manner his mother is using her tongue, and more, with the same shape of the mouth and tongue.
He said that when two people from different countries get a child, this child will automatically have his mother's tongue. His mother's way to pronounce the words.
That's why it could be so difficult to learn a foreign language.
To come back to Dimash, I don't denie he is making efforts. But I persist thinking each language has his proper rythm and melody. If you don't respect it, it's the same as not to respect the music of a song, of a musical partition.
As for learning phonetically, many singers can do that. Our well known Mireille Mathieu did it perfectly.
But it's true that some languages are stranger and more difficult than others, especially those with very specific ethnic sounds, that your tongue will absolutly refuse to reproduce.
      It's because of THE MOTHER'S TONGUE !

Bonus points for knowing what a kobyz is! ❤ Dimash often uses Kazakhstan’s native instruments in his songs. The music for this song was written by Russian composer Igor Krutoy, who came out of retirement to compose for Dimash. The lyrics were written by American Sharon Vaughan. You may know her from the country music scene in America. Her most famous composition is "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" sung by Willie Nelson. (Edited to correct the song title, I wrote the incorrect one.)

Who is Dimash? From Kazakhstan, beginning his singing career at age 5 (he's 28 now), Dimash was accepted into the most distinguished music academy in his country. His range extends from the top of the bass register to the highest notes of the coloratura soprano and whistle register. His first digital music album "ID" went platinum in only 37 seconds after release, and 3x platinum in only one hour, and 5x platinum in only one day on Chinese music platforms In December 2019, he made his US debut in New York at the Barclays Center. Dears (those he calls his fans) traveled from 68 different countries, 43 states & 2 US territories, and was sold out. Now writing his Doctoral thesis for a PhD in Musicology/ Composing, received all his degrees with honors while simultaneously filling arenas and maintaining his performing career, a first! He has a bachelors degree in vocals, a master's degree in composition and is about to complete his PhD in musicology this year.
Dimash sings in 14 languages, plays 7+ musical instruments, is a composer, an amazing vocalist, patriot, philanthropist and a very warm and humble person.

With this song, you just wet your fingertips in the ocean under the name Dimash ... React further to it and millions of Dimash fans will simply blow up your channel with hundreds of thousands of views and subscriptions. Dimash sings from classical to rap, he is full of surprises, have a good swim in this vast ocean of pleasures. Do you remember the Diva song from The Fifth Element, a movie with Bruce Willis? In this film, the song of the alien Diva was made half with the voice of an opera singer, and half synthesized on a computer to show an alien voice so that human capabilities could not cover the range and jumps of this song, and so: Dimash sang it calmly, which proves that Dimash is an alien.
When I heard Dimash sing, I thought that he was not human. When I heard what he said in an interview, I realized that Dimash is more of a human than all of us.

Great reaction! 👍 Stranger is an epic song with touches of medieval, Gregorian and even a march together. I love Dimash’s different voice textures specially the Middle East vibes in those riffs and runs 🎤❤️🔝🎼👏👏 Igor Krutoy said “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way”
The gentleman playing the Kobyz is master Olzhas Qurmanbeck, the best player in Kazakhstan 🎻🔝 The Kobyz is the first stringed instrument ever. Kobyz is an ancient tool of the Kazakh people. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝
