Went up with BJ Shram in Albuqurque N M at Coronado air park and again at Stellar air park in Chandler Az What a great helicopter! BJ was the best!
I remember when I was a little boy when BJ Schramm took me up for a cool little hop in the Exec. over the desert.. Back in the old school era. We were at a company picnic in Chandler AZ. My father was the weld shop foreman.
While I fly a gyro it's on my way to flying Helicopters. Jus luv it! Rotors away!!!
Usually a mass helicopter fly in is a pretty intimidating sight, but not when they are so darn cute. Haha

WELCOME! Rotorcraft are pretty much the same as a Fixed Wing as far as getting your license to fly. You to get get a Private Pilot for Rotor Craft. It is... quite a bit more expensive however. And most get into it to go after a full time career. Not just as a hobby. But... for these DIY Builders, it makes it a bit more affordable because they are mostly doing their own maintenance.

What are the legalities of buying a clapped out jetranger with no engine and slapping in an LS with an X stamped on it ? I would feel safer in an old jetbox than a new kit helicopter.
would take a fair bit of engineering to accomplish as the tail rotor driveshaft and the mgb driveshaft are in line and go thru the engine. You'd also have to run the engine at 6,016 RPM and be able to put out at least 420 SHP while keeping the speed constant. As far as getting that as "experimental" you'd have to pursue "experimental exhibition" category as "Amateur Built" wouldn't fly. With all the time life components not sure they'ed be willing to let you do it. If you're serious talk to an FAA DER and see what he thinks. In the end you'd never recoup your investment and it would be hard to sell. Sounds fun though.
