Some men are just build different. Guys like Duran, Jake LaMotta, Marvin Hagler (RIP) maintained sharp mental faculties into old age despite fighting wars.
Add Dwight Muhammed Qawi to that list. For as many wars as he had in his career, he's as lucid and alert as a young man. If you don't know Qawi, you need to look up his fights on CZcams.
Those types are the guys who had better defense than it looks like I think, they didn't actually get hit clean much in their careers. You can take a lot of steam off punches if you know how
To those that are too young to remember Duran in his prime, this guy was, hands-down, one of the toughest bastards of his time in the ring. Don't let the Old Man persona trick you. He was the type of boxer that was willing to take 2 punches to give 1 explosive punch.. THAT'S how powerful he was
Absolutely! The greatest lightweight ever.!!!! Moved up in weight to fight bigger men. His skills were amazing one of the greatest defensive fighters ever.
@@stevecvino totally agree. Best lightweight I've ever seen. He had it all: he could box, he could punch with either hand n as Mike Tyson said, he was a "defensive marvel." Guys would come into the ring n look across at him, n you could see the fear in their eyes. And he fought em all, the best of the best in multiple weight divisions. One of my all-time favorites. 👍
I agree with the others in this thread. Roberto Duran is known for his aggressive brawling style, but his defense was often highly underrated and overlooked.
Over 100 fights, over 100 wins boxed well into his 40s. Beat and fought some of the best boxing had to offer back in the day and hes still jumping around like a little kid. He held himself well. Durable Duran dodged a bullet when you compare it to guys like Ali and Thomas Hearn who you could tell age and all those hits caught up to them...

He was a Monster in the ring and a warm giving humanitarian outside of it . Roberto Duran gave his money away to people from his Barrio yes he partied a lot but he never said no to the people in need . Bless you “Cholo” !

He is an a so legend. Even though he’s aged so much, you know it’s him, and it’s in his eyes. One of the greatest fighters of all time, and to achieve world champion belts in lightweight, welterweight and middleweight before he retired is staggering!
Not many remember Freddie Brown! When Rocky Marciano nose was sliced in half against Ezzard Charles, Freddie's expertise at treating cuts was a big factor in Rockys eventual victory.
@@paulmackiewicz9836 iirc, Brown was the actual trainer for most of training camp, and had the unenviable task of getting Duran up in the morning to do his roadwork. Arcel, at least in the last stage of his tenure with Duran, would only show up at the final stages.

One of the GOAT’s
Duran truly liked his craft. It seems as if Roberto enjoys teaching boxing as much as those lucky enough to learn from the master boxer himself.
