Well, I'm glad I'm Australian. Our borders are our coastline.

    • @nk53nxg
      @nk53nxg Před 4 lety +11

Thats true about the Oz coastline , and an invasion through the Northern territory would be funny to watch. Any invading army would have to cross the red centre, and that would be logisticaly very difficult. However China is buying up small Island Nation states like Fiji with bogus infrastructure projects, so China will eventually militarise these small Pacific Islands close to Oz like thay already have done in the South China Sea. China is playing the long game, and choking trading routes which will strangle Australia into submission. Australia's Geopoliticaly remote position is kind of protection and also a problem. Australia depends on America for military weight, most of Australia's military tech is European and American so if trade is cut off Australia will only last so long. China wants America tangled in a war with another power which will move resources and intelligence to another part of the World. Once Australia is exposed and China has its permanent island military base chains up and running and controlling regional trade routes, Australia could fall quickly and easily. Not only that but an invasion of Western Australia, mainly Perth and the South West population centres, would be hard to defend from the corridors of power on the Eastern coast of Oz. Its a big place with spread out highly concentrated population centres and not much inbetween. Australia is a great country I visited for a year and travelled, but it has politically and economically opened its legs to China and allowed itself to be violated big time. An economy built on digging raw materials up and selling it to a totalitarian superpower that never plays by the rules will always end badly. China is making inroads into the most mineral and resource rich continent on Earth which is Africa. And once China is well into Africa it will drop an expensive and hard to corrupt state like Australia for easily exploited lawless Africa. China would not dare attack Australia while America and Europe are around, however once these two big allies are distracted Australia may become very vulnerable. America has more projected military power than China just now, but China knows this and will use different tactics. Economically Australia is already vulnerable as your Politicians have allowed your industry to die in favour of pathetic service industries, this is what has happened here in the UK too to a lesser degree. The West's own greed in pursuit of cheap unregulated labour means our own corporations and companies abandoned native labour for foreign shores, which goes full circle to China. China has become the Western worlds workshop through our Corporations own greed, we have deindustralised ourselves, lost generations of skilled industrial labour, lost our technical supply chains and lost our ability to produce industrially at any scale (except Germany). And we did all this by training up and helping China become a World economic superpower, we trained a dangerous totalitarian regime to become an industrial powerhouse through exploiting its cheap, educated and unregulated labour. The West created its own shit storm out of pure corporate greed and short term gain. China took advantage of our stupidity, we will pay for our arrogance. Australia is a great country, but it can be very vulnerable to invasion.

Let me give you an insight into the Polish nobility (szlachta) :-
    a) they elected their king, who was rarely ever Polish.
    b) they were entirely obsessed with their own status and
carried all their wealth on display : eg riding to town with another 6 horses in tow simply so people can see their wealth, eg shoeing their horses with gold shoes etc.
    c) many nobles with voting rights were dirt poor and easily bribed : so the elected king was the one who bribed most liberally.
    d) nobles didn't invest or modernise.
Between 1500-1800 agricultural productivity in Poland increased 25%
Compared to 200% in Britain and 100% in France.
    e) legislation passed in the Sejm had to be unanimous : which meant any foreign power could block all reform by bribing just one impoverished noble.
    f) Polish nobles believed themselves descended from a mythical Greek race ( Sarmatism )
They regarded Polish peasants as an inferior race to be subjugated.

As Czech, I don't know how would I feel about Union where Poland has a strong word, no issues with the other nations.
Either way I think eastern European countries should co-operate much closely and create certain counterbalance to tandem Germany - France. We have have plenty things on a common agenda:
    1. Agriculture in East Europe being ruined by unfair imports of heavily subsidised food from the West.
    2. EU technical norms and legislation taylored to suit German companies and to eliminate foreign competition.
    3. Stop and reverse left wing progressive agenda coming from Germany and France.
    4. Strengthen and grow economic and military ties with the USA and Israel, lower economic dependence on Germany.
    5. Decolonization of the east, e.g. mandatory labeling of the origin of goods on the EU market. Made in Poland, Hungary, Czech republic, Romania etc. instead just "Made in EU"

@@basilmagnanimous7011 Yes, absolutely! The Eastern European countries need to work closely together to free themselves from the German - French grip. The United States and in lesser extent the UK are the crucial allies.
I recommend book by George Friedman "The next 100 years - a forecast for the 21st century". I very much agree with most of his conclusions. Some of them are apparent already today.
Poland and Turkey will become major players in European politics and economics in this century. Political power of Germany and France will be declining.
The recent crisis in Ukraine shows that Germany and France would both be happy do sacrifice Eastern Europe and Ukraine in exchange for keeping relations with Russia. They absolutely cannot be relied on. Eastern Europe needs to construct robust infrastructure in north - south Direction which is inferior to west - east direction, strengthen its military cooperation, NATO membership and close cooperation with the US. That is the way forward. 👍

I can say from my own experience that there's always a natural social ease in company between Balts, Poles, Hungarians and others of the Commonwealth, which must have made it work.
As the author concludes, it may be that the rapid changes in power distribution coming up could make a renewed Commonwealth not just feasible but essential. Let's see.

Russia or Germany do not want a strong bloc of countries in Central Europe. They will play to break. Especially Russia, which is economically weaker and weaker. It will try to generate problems between the countries of the region.
The whole project has a chance to be completed when both centers of power from the east and the west weaken plus the protectorate of a strong external center. Or at the moment of total chaos.
If you look closely at what is happening in the world at the moment, each of the elements I mentioned is happening right now. The last condition is still ahead of us. If the peoples of Central Europe have the will, everything is possible.

Germany needs stable but divided Eastern Europe where their superior economical strength can Secure them maximum profit through political negotiation, something that would be hard to do if East European States would for a single negotiating block.
There is ofc the threat of Russian aggression as they cant accept re-establishing of Commonwealth 2.0 and Internal instability of multi - national/cultural/ethnic "federation" ( look how "stable" EU is).

Hello I'm Polish. I am of the opinion that together with the Czechs and Slovak we should create a federation something like the Great Britain. Together with Poland potential, mainly due to location, surface and natural resources, we could build great strength, not only in Europe but also in the world. It would give us 53 million people, a big army, 440,000 km and nearly one trillion PKB of surface area with access to the sea, which opens our way to the oceans of the world. Everything due to the fact that we are close ethnically, culturally and linguistically.Of course, for this to make sense and to be safe for us, we would have to get rid of corrupt politicians implementing foreign agendas, mass migration, but most of all the special services and residents of such a federation had to be completely loyal to each other without looking at history and their private views.

Sorry but at this point it's more of wishful thinking, eu project seems to have more potential, it's not like it's stupid, just 20-30 years too late.
      However:
      - so far Poland missed brexit opportunity to be one of decisive powers in eu
      - weimar triangle talks pretty much stopped
      - eastern eu countries can't really agree on anything
      - Polish goverment prefers usa military power over eu economic connections
      - shift from germany to uk as main eu ally wasn't that bad idea, however it was very unfortunate, and left Poland in a void for a while.
Ofc, it is still possible to create central european block inside eu, and this might be the best option, however current goverment needs to shift it's focus from usa to eu.
Fortunately they are trying to talk with eastern eu countries, however poland's position in eu is too weak to create strong ties with Czech, Slovakia, and baltic countries.
When Poland will get involved in eu and find comfortable position in it might be quite easy to create easter block in eu which will be strong enough to rival Germany-France allience.

@@Kocan7- Let us remember that we were entering a union for economic cooperation between nations in Europe and not for it to make states and nations disappear in Europe. This was not the case in the referendum, and you must defend yourself and your country against such a thought. The European Union is an organization. Not the state!

      @@hubertszadurski3344 I wasn't writing about that.
Let's think for a moment, and leave aside our personal views.
Ofc, there are many forms of integration like common foreign policy or army, but let's talk about most drastic one.
In federal eu Poland region would have 5th in population, that means politicians and parties would need to seek for votes of Poles if they want to be elected. So the risk of being under Germany and France influence is lower than currently.
Also it's very good way to be big when we have giant rivals: usa, china, russian, and soon india.
If federal eu is possible countries would be more or less like Texas, with very strong Texas identity and patriotism.
This is impossible in short or medium term, eu, as you said wasn't meant to be one country, things like second common language in every every office would be mandatorry and the same language teached in schools, to even seriously consider idea of eu federation.
Ofc the largest hurdle are politicians, most of them would loose their jobs, or loose most of their power, integration is not in theirs interest.
Also too many normal citizerns in eu view eu as "them", not "us", they would need to feel as Polish/Chechs/Portugals and Europeans at the same time.
Those are giant problems in eu integration, because as you said it wasn't meant to become single country,

@@Kocan7- Note that countries such as Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom are in the top 10 largest, richest and most technologically developed countries in the world. They do not have to race against China, America or Russia, which is not very rich compared to these countries, destroying their national identity by some utopia of the European Union. Europe is a continent of many nations with the right to self-determination in their own country.

The best bet for eastern Europe is to form a strong bloc of people that wish to preserve traditional Europe and they try to spread their influence and reach to other parts of Europe while remaining independent. Europe needs heroes right now to fight off liberalism/neoliberalism from the west.
