Thank you so much for sharing this post. It help me a lot. I have been digging for a week to find out how to use the audio setup output> Now it works!!
Once again this video saved my insanity. Had to go to WASAPI Shared so I can control the overall volume through the computer system volume level. Thank you!
Thanks for the help. Fixed my issue after searching for an hour.
Thank you!! This is a very helpful tutorial, and you covered things that I was overlooking.
This video helped me a lot because this was my first time using anything like CakeWalk, and I could not get it to record, but after paying attention to the details I solved all my issue.
Thank you Bros. I have had a number of projects which just ceased to play. I have been able to solve all the problems with the help of this video.
Thank you so much for that info,it was a week trying, finally i fixed it!
It worked. Awesome, thank you 😊

🥰🥰🥰🥰
thank you so much for this
Sometimes when I play back during a session I tend to get a loud static noise feed for a split second or so not sure what to t could be ?
ITS TAKEN ME FOREVER TO FIX THIS LOL, THANKS
Any time, Jimin!
I almost quit this program because i could not ear any sound anymore. Saved my life =)
THANK YOU!! Was literally about to re record all my guitars which would have taken hours.
Rock on!
thank you so much saved me a headache
THANK YOU
I was hoping I would find a fix for this Cakewalk error...........
"Cakewalk audio driver error the following driver either do not support the current audio format or are in use by another application...."
I'm just trying to connect a Yamaha PSR-e373, and was told I had to use MME 32bit, though I also tried WASAPI and ASIO too.
Google says reduce the sample quality to 16bit, I tried, and it didn't work. After a couple of hours I gave up and accepted that I wasted $250. I wish music software was just plug n play, you know.
Hey there! Sorry to hear about that. Did you download the right Yamaha driver for the keyboard? If not, you can find it here: usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/portable_keyboards/psr-e373/downloads.html
You’ll need to install the Yamaha driver before opening Cakewalk.
Also… with Yamaha keyboards I’m pretty sure you have to set the controls to “Local” if you’re trying to send a signal to a DAW. To activate, first plug in your USB ports, and then press the “Function” button a few times on the keyboard until the screen on the keyboard says “Local”.
Next, try these steps:
Open Cakewalk then open Preferences. Make sure other applications that use audio are not running (players, browsers, etc).
In Preferences, go to Audio and make sure output is set to Speakers, and if available the input set to Line (or something similar). In Playback and Recording, where you tried WASAPI, etc., this should be set to the type of driver you want the DAW to use for PLAYBACK AND RECORDING not necessarily the keyboard (I use WASAPI Exclusive personally. MME 32 isn’t very fast and causes noticeable latency, though might have to use it to engage the Yamaha midi. So try MME first like you already have).
Next, scroll down to Midi -> Devices, and make sure the Yamaha is selected under Input. Unselect the Yamaha as output (preventing a signal from going back through the keyboard).
Make sure you click Apply then Close.
Next, add an INSTRUMENT TRACK (not audio). In the Instrument tab click SI-Piano and the output should be Omni. A piano patch will be created (this is where the midi recitation comes from). Once track is created, double-click the little keyboard logo on the left side of the track name. A keyboard window will pop up. You don’t need this open to play the keyboard but it’s always good to get a visual of the VST you’re wanting to engage.
Let me know if this works.
Hi, I have two issues with this program, no sound goes through the headphone output on my acer inspire but all other sounds do, one of my songs wont load up, it gets to " creating UL.." then everything goes off, any ideas ? thanks
Great tutorial.. one thing I am having problems with is not getting sound on my record input..help please

I am having an issue where Cakewalk and my Behringer Wing as an audio interface are fighting whenI choose ASIO. Cakewalk chokes and says audio device is not compatible. Now Divinci resolve is also on this pc. Any thoughts?
i jussst lost my input and output deviices after setup ASIO please help
Hello I need help I’m importing a beat but when I listen to it sounds horrible
How can I just create a clean template with no audio effects? I just downloaded, opened, and when I record my audio it is high pitched robotic and distorted. I do not have this problem when I just use the daw online.
Hi, i need your assistance please. This is in regards to Cakewalk the free version. My issue is: I am trying to get the software to recognize my YAMAHA PSR 36. I t does have midi in and out at the back. Another thing that i have realized is that: in Cakewalk, in Preferences, Audio-Devices-Input Drivers its empty. Then below that at Output, the box is checked and it say Speakers (Realtek High Def...)
At Preferances - MIDI the above is the same only differance is Output which has Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. Please assist me.
Hello.
Do you have a video showing a way to use the sounds directly from my keyboard? I don't like any of the midi options and it's just simpler for me to be able to record what is actually in the sound bank of my keyboard. How would I go about that?
Currently no. But it’s something we’ve thought about doing. Getting sound from your keyboard to your DAW is pretty easy. However, you’ll need an analog input (such as a Mackie interface) and then use that as the input to your track. Much like you would with a microphone. So check your keyboard for a) analog outputs or b) a way to send an analog signal via USB, as the USB is probably just sending MIDI signals. Pretty sure your keyboard will have instructions somewhere on how to do that.
@@JimmyFlame Thanks for replying.
I will have to look into that. Right now even when I use it to control MIDI I'm only able to get the piano sound on Cakewalk. I download other stuff and I select other plugins or whatever but... I just gave up on it because it seems like more steps that I wanted to take LOL.
@@rachelle_banks Try dragging the VST sound/instrument directly into the track, and make sure it’s a MIDI track. The instrument panel should pop up automatically.
The software won't let me change the ASIO, I don't know why? And it just scanned and returned WASAPI Shared every time. I didn't find the answered from you yet
Same here
I don't here the midi keyboard that I set up with this musical project-----on this same project when i am trying to record a vocal part the midi it does not play where I can here it with music, I can here the drums audio however, is this some type of input or output issue ( or just your expert---advice needed). ....That I don't quiet understand? Thank you appreciate much !!!!!! your videos and right to the point too!
Could be a routing or assignment issue. Check your midi configuration to make sure midi is being sent from your keyboard at Preferences > MIDI > Devices.
Also, when you drag/drop a midi instrument into the timeline, make sure to check boxes that say Simple Instrument Track and Enable Midi Output. I don't mess with the Ask Me Everytime box (doesn't have anything to do with sound but make sure it's checked).
Oh and also, make sure the track you have has an instrument assigned to it.
Hope this helps!
@@JimmyFlame thank you for responding! I will give all a try at work now!! Thanks Again!!
Please man I have a very important question
I have been working on project on cakewalk i saved it and i closed the app the next day I opened it and there is no sound i looked for the problem for hours please help man
Go through your driver sequence and make sure nothing has changed. Make sure no other apps are controlling your sound, especially if you’re using ASIO drivers as they only allow one source at a time to play. Try different drivers in Cakewalk. Sometimes an update either from your OS or Cakewalk itself will change settings including sound settings without alerting you. So just go through the settings and make sure nothing has changed.
worked for me
I'm having a problem with Cakewalk, sometimes while playback the audio stars to sound tune up for no reason, does anybody knows why and how can I fix it?
It wont let me change it to master just says new drum map?
hi i got a problem i cant hear the mike i want to use for recording, my daw will play imported audio but not my mike which is hooked up to my sound card , i use wasap shared, pls help, i m desperate
There’s a couple ways to fix that. First, if your mic has a dedicated headphone output just plug your headphones directly into it and monitor from there. Make sure your track is registering a signal too. Second, if your mic doesn’t have a dedicated headphone out, check the track’s meter to verify it’s receiving a signal. If it is, turn monitoring on for that track. Keep in mind you’ll likely hear an echo or delay because you’re in WASAPI shared.
Oh, and verify that your input signal in the track is set to receive from your microphone. Cakewalk doesn’t necessarily automatically detect where a signal is coming from. At least not all the time. So yeah, under the record button in the track you’ll see an in and out option. Click “in” and choose from there. If you don’t see the in/out options, drag to expand the track window.
Anyone tell me, cakewalk didn't active
I own a Korg Kronos and have been using it with Cakewalk Sonar for four years. This month, I bought a Korg Pa5X, but even with the latest Korg driver installed, Cakewalk isn't seeing Pa5X on the MIDI device list. In fact, NONE of my audio and MIDI software on Windows 10 detects the Pa5X. The only thing I can do is transfer files back and forth to the Pa5X' internal drive from my PC.
Upon closer look, the new driver does not support Pa5X, so it looks like Windows users are screwed.
in my version of cake walk running on Windows 11 ASIO and ASIO4ALL doesn't work and cakewalk tells you it won't work
In Cakewalk the looping of tracks sounds flawless on playback, but on export it glitches upon the start of the loop. I've tried the add a fade in/out in audacity etc but still get a slight click, highly annoying, as I realise it's the square wave and clipping from the end and start of the audio, any Pro tips to get rid of this glitching to create a seamless loop would be much appreciated. It's for an android app as well. so they are quite small files, usually 100kB to 1MB at most on export.👍
My issue is with playback. I get a constant ticking when I playback pre-recorded audio.
Something recently changed and now I can only get input on WASAPI exclusive but not shared, any idea why that would be?
What bitrate are you using? WASAPI drivers have had issues in Cakewalk running over 44hz. Also, check your recording buffers/sampling in Shared. Shared mode allows the drivers to be used by more than one source, which is ideal for mixing. So… the good thing is as long as Exclusive is operating normally for recording, you should be able to use the less CPU intensive Shared mode for mixing. Another thing you can do is check the “Suspend Audio Engine when Cakewalk is Not in Focus” box. Has nothing to do with input, but it could free up more CPU on playback especially if other windows are open.
Try all that. Let me know.
Ohhh one more thing. If you’re using an interface. Make sure the interface is set as the default Windows device as well. Do it in Windows Sound settings and make sure the bitrates for input and output are set to the exact bitrate in Cakewalk.
@@JimmyFlame Thanks, I'll try the bitrate settings but I've already fiddled around with default device settings. I can't see any difference between the settings for Shared and Exclusive but one keeps registering no input while the other works fine
Cool. One other thing to check is the Output routing from WASAPI Shared. Sometimes the routing changes in Cakewalk (for whatever reason) when switching drivers. Also, when in Shared mode, is the input track receiving a signal but you just can’t hear it? If so it’s likely the speaking routing. Keep me posted!
@@JimmyFlame Hi again! The bitrate between the device in the Windows settings matches CakeWalk and the output drivers are the same for Shared and Exclusive but Shared continues not to register any input from the USB interface (it *does* register input from a different source however)
This cakewalk thing seems to have the potential but it is very cumbersome I use Audition/ProTools wanted to try this I loaded a Wav file and no sound I don' get the screen on this video , the most basic thing load a file and play doesn't work
PLEASE HELP ANYBODY , how do I get rid of this robotic sound out my voice when I record … my voice sounds wierd when I try to record my vice
Increase the buffer size in Preferences > Devices > Sync and Caching.
256 should default, increase by X 2 to 512, see if that does it. Keep in mind that increasing buffer will increase latency, which is what’s likely causing the robot sound. Might have to increase Playback buffer too (Cakewalk can be weird), but first try increasing Record buffer size. Should fix your issue.
whenever I put in a audio file it glitches and misses like every beat how do I fix that
What’s your computer specs? RAM, etc… What driver are you currently using (WASAP, 32, ASIO)? In the meantime, try adjusting your buffer size, both playback and record. Do this in double increments. Increase 256 to 512, and so on.
@@JimmyFlame I dont know how to do that I'm new in this whole music making thing, I've tried audacity and I like it but the thing is that my mic is delayed as fuck
@@JimmyFlame 8gb ram
@@qtRisky 8GB should be ok. But you’ll need to adjust latency. What driver are you using? If you’re in any Windows driver mode, go to Edit>Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings. Try moving the buffer size towards “Safe”.
If you’re still having issues after increasing, then your hard disk buffer needs to be increased. Go to Edit>Preferences>Audio-Sync and Caching. Try increasing both Playback and Recording I/O Buffer in double increments. 128, 256, 512, 1024 and 2048. I’m guessing you’ll need something like 512 or 1024.
So… adjust audio driver latency first. If you’re still having issues THEN adjust hard drive buffer.
Hope it works for you!
Still no sound :(
Bro mine is different please help im so confused
My Realtek drivers absolutely won't deliver input audio for recording with Cakewalk, but work fabulously with Audacity.
how do i fix the robot sound when i record
Probably a latency issue. Increase playback buffers first on Playback then on Record if needed. Your CPU might not be able to handle lower latency settings. But yeah, increase buffer/latency settings until it stops.
@@JimmyFlame ok it work thank you so much🙏
@@skut333 Excellent. Have fun!
I recently had to upgrade to windows 11 (against my wishes) and I'm running into several issues. Win11's ASIO sucks for me, ASIO4ALL doesn't work worth a damn because it hates my Audigy 5/RX soundcard, and I'll be working on a song and making great progress and then a vst (or multiple) completely refuse to play any sound at all. I've tried reloading the troublesome instrument, replacing, deleting and adding the same to no avail. I bought Sonar X3 (X3e build 244 x64) a VERY long time ago on Steam and it's what I pretty much only know. I've got so much on my plate in life right now that I'm so stressed and am smashing my head into a brick wall (figuratively. Hell, maybe literal the way things are going. Let's play it by ear HAH!!) trying to find a solution.
the fucking master track of course!!!
Checked preferences and everything , idk what happened..
How can I change the bitrate? I think I picked the wrong option when I first downloaded Cakewalk and now my audio from my mic sounds robotic and is sped up
You can choose a bit rate when opening a new song. 44.1 khz is the default. But you have sound and the robotic sound from your mic sounds like a buffer issue. Try this. Open your Record buffer setting and increase the buffer size for recording. Default is 256, double that or double whatever Record buffer size you already have. Note: increasing buffer size also increases latency. So do it incrementally. Also, turn off monitoring for the vocal track and use your interface to monitor the vocal take. Try all that. It should take care of the “robot” voice.
@@JimmyFlame Thank you soo much!! I really appreciate you taking the time to type that out. I took a screenshot and am definitely going to try it! I hope you’re doing well 😊
@@JimmyFlame I have the same issue, using a differnt mic to try out (Snowball Ice).
@@HeyItsEmilyLove all good! Hope it works out!
@@pistolpatpatr.9845 awesome. Try doing the same. Increase recording buffer, see if that works. Just keep in mind it’ll also increase noticeable latency if you have to increase significantly.
nice video!! i have a problem with my recordings. i am using cakewalk by bandlab..
i record in AUDIO TRACK.. but when i record the second audio track, it also records the first audio track even if i have turned off the "arm button" of the first track
it was not like this before. asking for help sir
Wow. Double check your sends and try turning off track monitoring. Sounds like you have audio bleeding happening somewhere in your routing. But then again, it’s recording to an unarmed track. So, check your interface routing or whatever you’re using to get audio to the DAW. Try recording to a third armed track too with the others unarmed. See if it sends to track 2 or 1, or both. Really strange that Cakewalk is recording audio to unarmed tracks. Could be a bug that was picked up from a plug-in too. Worst case, do a complete reinstall. At least that’s what I’d do. I know, annoying. But tracks should not be recording at all when unarmed.
@@JimmyFlame thanks man!! Im considering reinstalling it
yeah im having a problem where i sound like a chipmunk when i record
So much miss information. ASIO is only for use with a proper driver supplied by the manufacture of a proper audio interface. You need to deal with your audio as all through the video there is crackling of the playback.
I'm lost lol help
im still confused
I use a usb mic and when I switch to an asio driver cakewalk tells me that its incompatible and it switches me to wasapi. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Couple things… not knowing what mic you’re using… if applicable, make sure your mic driver is up to date. Might as well check mic routing while you’re at it. Also, if your mic is routed through an interface like a Mackie Onyx or a virtual interface, check for compatibility and check the settings to make sure it’ll communicate w/ ASIO. Pretty much all up-to-date drivers have ASIO and you shouldn’t have to do much except double-checking the settings.
Lastly, there’s nothing wrong with recording in WASAPI mode. Try it in WASAPI-Exclusive first.
Also… does ASIO record/playback other instruments properly when the mic isn’t hooked up?
In the future, always include your system specs and instrument info when troubleshooting. What I gave you are some general fix ideas.
This is a brutal explanation please look elsewhere... let's crunch some files? love the background noise!
Thanks for the feedback!
