      Thanks Jeff! Yeah it actually works pretty well, the only changes I made were bigger holes on the outlet tube as these were getting clogged too easily and if I wanted to spend more money but make it look nicer, put down that white egg crate material to hold the batting rather than a screen I had lying around.

    when you upgrade to a larger pump you will have to redo the pipes as well in order to increase the water circulation otherwise there will be no change in the actual amount of water your pushing around. Your pump will just be bottle necked at the hoses or top pipe(drilled holes) or overflow your filter because the exit pipe cant handle the amount of water.

    One suggestion you can add something like an accumulator before the pipe you have drilled so that there would be much less pressure or load to your pump and the holes u drilled wouldn't be clogging frequently atleast by the larger particles which would much likely sediment in the accumulator

    • @DanTheTurtleMan_
      @DanTheTurtleMan_  Před 5 lety +1

      What I'd be worried about is the sediment building up and still clogging, therefore what I did after the video was add some much larger holes and it allowed the water to flow continuously even if the smaller holes were clogged. Thank you for your idea!

    You should remove the pipe from inside or take out the cupoling on the end because it will give you problem soon specially drilling a small hole on it and if im gonna do this type i would add at least 3 dividers inside and add some sands,rocks and charcoal to make sure filtration will last and better experimentation 😂😂😎

  • @whoknowes1

    Buy a tripod. You have some goodbideas, but the follow through seems a little weak. When you built the pond, you left the liner exposed to direct sunlight, that's not going to last more than a year or two before it starts to crack. All that work wasted. At least cover them with flat stones. The filter should use filter media, not plastic scrubbing pads which may not be turtle safe. The batting again shouldn't be used it is to dense. Visit your local pet store or online and order some cut to fit filter it's 12.89 on Amazon. I would strongly suggest a larger pump for that volume of water. Again, good ideas, but the execution is weak. The PVC burrs on the ends of the pipe you shoved through the seal in the tote more than likely scratched the seal. You will probably have leaks. Check out Kamp Kenan's channel. He's a turtle guru.

    • @DanTheTurtleMan_
      @DanTheTurtleMan_  Před 5 lety +3

      Hey there! Unfortunately I couldn't afford a tripod at the time of filming, and I try to keep all costs at a minimum. The pond liner is 60ml thick and therefore can take quite a beating! I have plans to cover with stone, but my initial plan was to get it set up for my Terrapins as soon as possible. So far it's been a year with no issues. I couldn't really afford stones at the time of filming as well, I spent most of the budget on liner. The pot scrubbies actually turned my water crystal clear in about 3 weeks of running after and algal bloom. The 100% polyester is the exact same material as filter media is made of. The "more dense" media catches finer particulate matter and if anything may be better for the filtration. The plastic pot scrubbies also are 100% plastic and safe, they've been used by hobbyists for years. The pump for the pond is to be upgraded in the Spring in a few weeks! The seal lasted all summer in the intense heat and worked beautifully. I watch Kenan all the time, he's a huge inspiration. Thanks for watching!

      @whoknowes1 Před 5 lety +1

      @@DanTheTurtleMan_ If you are following Keenan, you know he does things cost efficient but doesn't "rig" it. If youre going to keep doing videos, then even a starter table top tripod can be bought for less than 20 dollars. and greatly allows you to demonstrate "how to" do things and free up your hands. I'm NOT trying to slam you by any means but people watching want to see how guys like you and Kenan do things and how its best done based on experience not just fast and cheap. Check out Wal Mart for a budget friendly tripod, there are two listed one a 50 inch for 15.99 and a 6.5 inch that can be made to fit various things like a tree or a post, maybe a ladder for 5.99. A wise investment.
