- This one was not up to the same level as some of the other old truck kits I have completed from AMT. I would not suggest this one for a new person to the hobby.
Hard to argue with the bold style of this truck though. Very menacing look to it. I recall staring out the back of my dads 9 passenger wagon with the rear facing seat and feeling a little intimidated by these as they came up behind us. - Zábava
Built it was a hard build but one of my favorites
WOW NICE! The seam looks fantastic.
I had this truck and really liked it.
I never searched AMT builds until now but remember this kit quite well from my youth (I think I remember these kits being a whopping $10 or $15 back then lol). I look at the moldings now and their poor quality reeeally sticks out compared to today's parts. You did a fine job cleaning up this old kit! There are probably a number of model railroad detail items that are now handy for detailing these old kits, just like the rivets you used. Even as a kid, I hated that seam... Little did I know, I would end up driving trucks after ten years of starvation-wages in radio stations and the first trucks I drove were cabovers in the early 90s (an '89 Freightliner being the first, long after White had parted ways). They're cool to see restored these days but my joints ache just at the thought of getting dressed on my back and crawling over the doghouse in these old flat-tops! lol
Good job and thanks for sharing a very nice build!
Thanks for sharing your story. I am glad you liked. I have an international cabover in my pile of ‘to-do’s that I hope to complete soon. It is apparently completely retooled and goes together much better than some of the older kits.
Looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. Can’t wait to start the new tooled Transtar cab over….I have a feeling it is going to go together a little better.
@@heathjohnson4486 Oh yea, that is a GREAT kit!!!!!
Heath , you did an incredible job on this. My Dad used to drive a COE Freightliner and tis is awesome!. This is one I'd like to do! those rivets also come on some kind of sheet too so you don't have to apply 1 by 1. I just got back into building cars and trucks. I just posted my build of the Smokey and Bandit. It turned out pretty good for being my 5th truck and trailer.
Cheers!
Earl
No way I would have the patience to pull this off. Outstanding effort.
I totally concur with your assessment on how these OLD AMT molds are. I really want to build this kit, being a former trucker and a son of a truck driver, And spending more time in a Freightliner or a White Freightliner than any other truck. I've experienced the same problems with the AMT Kenworth W925 model kit trying to make the Smokey and the Bandit tractor and trailer as well as the Trans Am. I got mostly a very sketchy rolling chassis and engine until it fell inside my closet in a box, so I gave up but I still had the trailer tandems complete and perfect. So I am going to build the Revell Kenworth W900 aerodyne tractor, but use the AMT W 925 cab sleeper and hood. I enjoy the big truck models more because like you said they take time, it's mostly what me and my dad built but we also built a lot of classic cars and a few helicopter model when I was young. I like the detailing in the big trucks models a lot, and it is why it takes so long for me to build a model because of the detail I like to add. I love your channel great builds!
Hi Denny, Thanks for checking out my channel. You might want to check out the international transtar cabover. It was completely re-tooled about a year back. I have not opened mine yet, but I have seen many others report that it goes together super nice with the modern tooling.
Denny, I just got back into building cars and trucks. I posted my build of the Smokey and Bandit. It turned out pretty good for being my 5th truck and trailer.
Cheers!

Awesome Freightshaker!👍😎
Very nice!! Thanks for sharing. Your Freightliner looks great!!
Rig looks Awesome!!! Love all the rivet work!!! Well Done!!! Thanks for sharing
Great job, I have built a few model trucks in my younger years and can relate to the problems you have mentioned but I never thought of going to the lengths you have to achieve a perfect job. Well done 👏👏👏😎👍
Very nice work, looks great
That's good looking truck. But I can't help but notice how, those guys over at Round 2, seem to be on top of the game, and fixing those molds. They do good work over there too.
Love the round two team as well. This has really been the only kit out of a dozen or so I have got from the round two brands that the quality was not very good. Usually I am quite satisfied, especially given the age of some of these kits.
It would be cool if Round 2 did re-tool that kit, join the cab together and supply the day cab too!!
Cheers!

Brother 👍 good job on the rivts detail .cannot go
through all that..
Very Nice build! Looks real, you do a super nice job love the detail. I built a few of these myself, on my time off the road! I like Cabover,s! I had a couple brand new ones back in the day! And they were pretty good Tractors. Someday I will try and post the photo,s of em.
I would enjoy seeing the photos. I have a international cab over in my collection to build. There are a couple models in line before I get to it though.
Looks real cool mate👍
This model truck would look good with a livestock trailer or a spread axel flat bed trailer box or refrigerated trailer!!!
It looks good brother..
Sweet Rig. Awesome job!!
Looks great!
Thank you
Always love the cabovers. Really digging it!! This kit is a beast to attempt, but you knocked it out of the park!!!
Well thank you much.
Classy ride...nice job
Thanks!
Nice job on the rig, I like the 2 tone paint job, I have an old Titan 90 that I’ve had for a while I have to get on, thanks for sharing
Thank you…That titan has my eye. Love cabovers!
Good looking job on it though, regardless of the problems and things, very cool, very good looking buddy! 👍👍👍👍🤘✌️, I really like the rivet's, real nice touch!!
Thanks man.
Look very nice. Good job on the build.
Very nice work. Considering the quality of that AMT kit, you did an outstanding job. Thanks for sharing.
Bravo on a job well done! 🙌 I too struggled thru this kit a few years ago! Man, you have waaay more patience than I do with those rivets!! Just crazy! At any rate, it looks great!!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you…not sure if it’s patience or insanity.😂
OH YEAH" OLD SCHOOL KIT EVERYBODY 👌 😅DON'T HAVE THE SKILLS YOUR BUILD GIVE IT @ 7"◇10-4.😮
having built a few of those old amt truck kits I know the difficulty and you over came them amazingly.
I agree Aries
Looks better than the 1st one I did about to do it again hopefully I've learned from the 1st one
Good luck with it. Was definitely a more challenging kit.
Beautiful job! Love the rivets. I'm about to start on the AMT International Transtar kit. This is the new, supposed better quality molds for this version. Hoping it turns out half as good as yours.
Thank you very much! It was a lot of work drilling all those holes. I I have that transtar cab over in my stash….I remember round2 making a big deal about it being all new tooling. Can’t wait to see how yours comes out. Good luck with it. Heath
I'm working on one right now and the mode quality ..sucks..
