  • A fix to a known problem amongst Akai users, regarding low quality plastic used in manufacturing a keyboard, unlocking keys, rendering keyboard unplayable. Shame on You Akai ! :). No drilling required. We found it to be fast, reliable, and super easy, to be done even without super tools. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT for this fix would be: superglue, screwdrivers, piece of material - ribbon, about 0,4 cm wide, or whatever strong, and gluable material You find arround.
We did this superfast, hope it helps You guys. There is a fix on YT, that requires You to use screws, and drill in instrument's keyboard frame - we found that plasic in Akai probably will not stand the stress of a key returning up, and eventually screw would start to move over time, and finally break the rest of the frame.

Thank you so much for this, I ordered a used MPK49 from Guitar Center, had it shipped to the store and took it home to find one of the keys was popped up. I was heated. However I did not have to take it allllll the way apart like yall did i just stuck the ribbon thru the slot. Thanks once again!

Thank you for sharing this approach. It worked like a charm on two of my lifted keys.

I fixed my Minibrute by gluing a piece of wood as a stopper, but it's impossible to line up and not very strong. I never would have thought of using a ribbon like that. I'm gonna try it out on mine. Thanks!

Akai don't make the keybed although obviously specify to use a cheap keyboard, I'm pretty sure that's a Fatar keybed. The key bushings (the blue rubber things) look exactly the same as the ones on old Ensoniq gear

I agree they're overrated and overpriced. Still we buy them!?
Well, just like you, I bought it without knowing the build was so bad. About 250 euros for the 25-keys MPK25....blah! Pads bad...plastic VERY BAD...KNOBS VERY BAD! Each one with difference force to be applied! I have the Korg Legacy MS20 controller here and it's MUCH better. Also, the AKAI is needlessly difficult to use and setup, to set up the arpeggiatore for example. Stupidly hard!
Have a problem with two keys on the AKAI now but I don't know if it's the same explained here.

Does anyone have a hack or fix for two dead keys on my MPK249. I called Akai and no help and even called a local music repair shop with no help. They wanted to charge me around 200 bucks to fix it but they were going to send it to Akai repair in like Texas. Anyone with a fix I would appreciate it.
