    When I was in high school we had an elective called “Business Math”. Basically taught us to do everything from check writing/balancing to loans/interest calculation. From filing taxes to budgeting income. Luckily I’ve always had an interest in finances and I really enjoyed the class. Really think we throw people to the wolves when we send people out at adult hood without this knowledge. Not saying this is or isn’t their fault but I think classes like that would make people more cautious with financial decisions

    Coming from someone who used to work in the gig economy for food delivery/grocery delivery, what really helped me keep working a lot of hours was keeping track of my daily earnings and seeing how each day contributed towards my financial goals or hitting the income threshold I needed to get by. I started seeing daily income as a little game, and started trying to beat the previous “high score“

      @E-Nigma_ Před rokem

      Imagine doing the same with an actual job. The bonus is health insurance and paying into your retirement, set hours, etc. Of course, this only applies if the job is going to pay more than Uber does. But you’re not making anything with rideshare with the current state of the economy. Too many costs to do business vs driving to a job and your car sitting there not being used.

    • @E-Nigma_
      @E-Nigma_ Před rokem +1

      @Kemet89 Yeah, but no gig workers are making enough to take advantage of what you’re talking about. Especially if they have bills. The gig economy is slowly eroding away. People who do it are barely breaking even. Now if it’s supplemental income or you’re in a situation where you don’t have expenses beyond gas and vehicle maintenance, then yeah it can be a positive. I think the time driving would be better spent job searching/acquiring a skill.

      @E-Nigma_ Před rokem +3

      @@mikeyserrano9748 How long ago was this? Things are different from a few years ago. The profit margins have eroded significantly. In college, all you have to worry about is breaking even, especially if you’ve taken out loans. In life, you need something more sustainable, that’s my only argument. Gig work is extremely exploitative. If you’re working software in California, you entirely understand the point I’m making. And since you once participated in the gig economy, you have even more experience with this understanding. I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t trade your current job for gig work. Night and day difference.

      Only buying what you can afford with money that you have(credit is not money and you were an idiot for thinking otherwise) is common sense and something that really shouldn't need to be taught.
      The correct way to diversify your portfolio, how a 401k works, risk management, and how to build credit are skills that need to be taught.
      You have nobody to blame but yourself if you thought credit was the same as money.

    the girl seems pretty uninterested in improving anything in her life. She appears pretty lazy...Im sure once you give it a little time she will be yet another one blaming this and that and everything around her for the position she is in. I can't feel any sympathy for people like this. They get what they deserve.

    You can dole out all the stellar advice but someone has to be open and willing to do it. She seems stuck and not at all invested in changing. She's getting by on credit cards and hasn't had the reality of being at rock bottom yet. She's still young and there is hope.

    Have you ever considered interviewing people and reviewing their financial situation, then giving input? Could be a fun kind of content.

    If I was dating her, I would absolutely disqualify her as a serious partner/marriage potential. It wouldn’t be fair to the other partner to have to deal with that burden. Also, it shows a lack of self-discipline and financial maturity. So many red flags, whether the person were man or woman.
