- Watch! Can you pick the most valuable piece of original artwork? Is it a watercolor, painting or gouache? Do you have original works of art, paintings and watercolors that are #ThriftStoreFinds and you need to know their price?
Watch Ph.D. Antiques Appraiser Dr. Lori identify and value different pieces of #artwork including pieces by Erte, Diebenkorn and others. See how to value artwork, understand how to read a painting, how to determine if your framing and mats are ruining your work of art and if you need UV glass. Ask Dr. Lori to appraise your #paintings, watercolors or thrift store finds. Attend her antiques appraisal events near you or submit photos on Dr. Lori's website. - Jak na to + styl
“Because it’s antique doesn’t mean it’s valuable.” Everyone needs to hear that.
Nice to hear from you!!
Dr. Lori always following your posts.
Elhadji Amadou Johnson true !
Depends on your definition of Value.
Also if it’s in good shape I’d say any antique is valuable. No?
Love Dr. Lori. She is always a straight shooter!

When you value and identify Art, I love how you do it! My mother was a fine artist, Mildred Lapson...she passed in 2014. My sister and I have her collection now. I’m always interested in the value of what her work would hold. Thank you for another wonderful video Dr. Lori~
Sorry to hear about your mother. I appraise many artist estates. Maybe you can bring a piece to an event?

Dr. Lori, do you appraise a lot of vintage and antique clothing? I'd love to see an episode on that. I look forward to your videos every Sunday, they're like the cap my weekend. I always learn something new in each video. ❤❤
Thanks for watching. I have a few videos on clothing on the channel. My recent vids are just want happens to show up at my events. Keep watching as more vids are in the edit room. I remember appraising a silver lama jacket last weekend. It just has to be edited. Look for it on a future Sunday :)

Doctor Lori, I do have an eagle that is called The challenge by Frankie devita. I have the certificate of authenticity. Said that the value in 1996 was $14,000.00 by Sirra Galleries. I would like to know how I can get to you for the eagle to be appraised. Pls advise.

So wise reccomendations Dr Lori gives to all of us...
Never ever use plastic folds to protect antiques, they're awfull because they keep moisture!
And, of course, her advise to buy today what will be more valuable tomorrow.
THANK YOU DR LORI, we send you our greetings from Argentina.
We usually join together with one of my sisters on sundays afternoon, and watch the videos you load, while having our tea or coffee. (Or maybe a lemonade, because this is summer here now!)
Nice to hear from you Jorge!! I’m so happy that you are still enjoying the vids. How many sisters do you have? Are you the youngest like I am?
@@DrLoriV I have two younger sisters, but the one who enjoys your vids with me is the younger one, since the other usually doesn't join us during weekends, but on some week days. You can see we're quite an Italian family, we see each other very often! Thank you so much for you answer, and I hope you have had a nice childhood being the younger of all.
My sister always says that you're a very well educated person, since you answer to every single question or "antiques case" without consulting any source at the very moment! We also enjoy your sense of humor, which makes your appraisals so warm and enjoyable.
Thank you Dr Lori!
@@jorgeodelar974 Thank you very much. I'm happy to hear of your close knit family :)
@@DrLoriV This brought up a point for me because of a recently bought painting that I want to have wrapped in something before display to prevent pest damage given the wood and Masonite in it (plus canvas too I guess) and all I could think was clear plastic. Will moisture really be an issue and are there other options? Thanks for replying to one of my other questions.
@@weirdscience6820 Yes moisture will be a problem. And plastic traps heat too.
Best personality in the business!
SO much great information!
In the late 70s I was given a watercolor painting by the artist. I just learned from this video that it is in a Nielsen frame. It has been moved many times and the glass broke in the last move. I began taking it apart in an attempt to replace the glass. My point of telling you all this is to say they come apart easier than they go back together. 😆 At least when trying to do it by myself. (Think Lucille Ball escapade) 🤣
I will always regret not finding you 2 years ago when we downsized my parents things. But now I know who can give an honest appraisal and who cannot. Thank you.
Happy to hear you learned something from this week's video. Don't forget to share your parents' downsizing story so others don't have to go through what you did :)
@@deirdre2833 Sorry to hear it. But, eBay should not be used as a pricing guide. People post stuff there and have no clue of what they are selling (low values) and some list pieces at very high prices in hopes of getting someone who doesn't know the true value to buy it (high values).
@@deirdre2833 I do touch on this here and there in videos. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm actually working on a series of videos that will help you know what to buy low and then explain when to sell it high. Stay tuned :)

Hi Dr.Lori, loved seeing you again, we had fun as always. Phillip usually does not go to public events however he did ask to go when we come see you again. He really likes your show and finds you and your knowledge base very interesting.
I have been rewatching your videos about artwork, trying to learn a thing or two. I am trying to figure out why a painting would have both nails and staples used to attach the canvas to the stretcher bars. The nails are on the sides and the staples are on the back. This one is really confusing me. Do you have a video that explains why both would be present?
Hi Debbie, Great to see Eric and Phillip. Glad it was fun. Staples may be used to secure an old canvas to stretchers of a painting. Typically, the old canvases are first secured with nails.
I have a painting...very antique.
Dear Dr. Lori. I've been looking at a print of Spring in Montemartre by Utrillo. It is described as a lithograph, but I see perpendicular "screen" pattern (no rosette). The sheen of ink seems to vary as well. Do you think more likely serigraph, or a giclee that is showing the canvas texture? Image size is 24"x20". Thanks!
I can help but need to it see to verify the piece.

Hello Doc😘 got a question what type or theme art deco are valuable or might be, thank you and hey you're great
Good question to ask during my next Ask Dr. Lori LIVE video.
Any suggestions of what we should collect right now?
Sell the Art Deco now that I told you collect over the last 10 years. Yes, I advised y'all to collect Art Deco years ago and now you can make the $$ on it. I know the patterns of collecting and that's why the smart resellers watch this channel faithfully. Also ride the boho chic, vintage crafts, and houseplants trends going on now. And, for the future, start to collect Colonial Revival stuff, Egyptian (King Tut) decorative items, American Brilliant Cut glass, and vintage puzzles. They are cheap now and are going to be very desirable in a few years.
Good morning and your neck of the woods hope you're having a good morning I just wanted to ask you a question I went to Value Village and I found a nice large what seems to be after I inspected it with a magnifying glass a watercolor and it says T Thompson on it. No I know it's not the the original Thomas Thompson as the famous painter. But my question is can you identify every single piece of art if I got you to appraisal my stuff again? I tried finding it on the internet and it's next to Impossible it's huge I mean it's about 4 feet by 5 feet nice Oak frame nicely matted.
I can look at all art work :)
That's very interesting about how you said Art Deco will be going up in price. I recently picked up five old yearbooks. There's one from a teachers collage in 1930 and the cover is very art deco. It's so fascinating looking through all the photos and content. Oh and I hope I make it into one of your sessions tomorrow. Can't wait!

Thanks for watching! I do make in person house calls and FaceTime and Skype calls too. Scheduling details are on my website.
She is pretty good at her job....however I think her prices are a bit unrealistic ....
Thanks for the comment so I can clarify. My values are based on what I have seen others actually pay for similar pieces. Many people are looking at online auctions where people are selling things too cheaply because they don't know what they've got or they simply don't care about getting top dollar because they got the piece for next to nothing at a clean out or grandma's house. I put these sales records in writing when I prepare online appraisal reports.
