  • Antique frames and #lithographs are valuable too. Learn #howto identify and value art frames from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Watch Ph.D. Antiques Appraiser Dr. Lori show you secrets to pricing lithographs and antique frames to find #bargains. See how to date frames by their decorative art designs and by looking at their backs. Discover how wood composition matter frames are made using a process involving Plaster of Paris. It's similar to molding Jell-O into an interesting shape. Dr. Lori also shares framing artwork tips for hanging your prints, paintings, lithographs, gouache and watercolors. See when to use a mat, how a piece should be framed using a piece of glass and tips about what to use on the back of a framed piece of art including how to attach the hanging wire. Dr. Lori also shows you an example of an archival museum quality frame and an acid-free mat.
Additionally, discover hand colored lithographs by Chandler similar to those of Currier and Ives lithographs that are marked Nassau, New York so you can spot them at the thrift store. Plus, Dr. Lori shows you how to read an acrylic landscape painting that was an auction bargain. Learn what to look for when looking at the colors in a painting. Understand how to spot a collotype print and a piece of the decorative arts for value. You'll be surprised as Dr. Lori tells you how Millennials are flipping the antiques for money that you put out in your trash.
Ask Dr. Lori about pricing lithographs and antique frames and thrift store finds. Attend her antiques appraisal events near you or submit photos on Dr. Lori's website.

This is probably my billionth time watching this video. I ended up buying a framed art painting today and the first thing that came to mind was this video and it literally answered every question I was thinking and all the information I needed to know not just of the painting itself, but the frame also which was the reason I actually purchased the piece.
Thank you for everything you do doc! Continuing to support and love you! ❤👏🙏😘

@@DrLoriV Thank you for your reply.Let me think on that, my ignorance is vast .I was inspired to write because of your analysis of a painting in the last video....you identified a "trained eye" in both composition, colour and the trick of retinal perceptions.
The painting disassembled and then reassembled before my eyes.So does the ignorant know what they need to learn....?
Maybe, what we see in a painting and what we could see in a painting.
How the artist causes our brain to respond.

Hey, I'm 59 and need income. I did this before 20 years ago for fun, now it's for bills. Thank you these videos.
Now I have a question if you don't mind about identifying silver. I bought a heavy, silver dish at a thrift today. It has kind of a rope detail about the edges with a shell and flourishes at compass points. On the back, there are spots and streaks of deep tourquise. There is tarnish especially around the ropy edges. There is no mark at all. I think I can see a speck of copper under a tourqouse spot. Is it more likely to be silver plate?

Hundreds! Lol. I took your advice and reinvested my portion of my grandmother’s estate sale profits in thrift store art I plan to resell. It’s turned into a substantial side business (I am a psychologist). I have done a video appraisal with you (it was a Victorian high carat gold serpent setting for a scarab seal intaglio charm/pendant); but now I have literally thousands of pieces. I am going to sign-up for Dr. Lori next month for help. I am good with dating from the back on frames/canvases 1500-1915 and 1970-present, but those early middle years of the 20th century are fuzzy. I would love to have a question featured on your show! I’m your biggest fan.

@@kevinvalentine6379 I think this is a great question for Ask Dr. Lori ... paintings during this period go through many changes based on movement just as the world was going through many changes during that time, circa 1915-1970 (political turmoil, social realism, World War II, post war modernism, etc.) so the artwork goes from highly realistic to very abstract/non-objective. Yes, I will discuss this more in an upcoming video. Thanks for the great question. So glad the channel is making your side business successful and that my info and videos helped!
