    Thanks for those tips, I fish in places with stocked trout that get a lot of pressure, hopefully some of these tips will help me net more fish. Keep the tips coming. ! ! !

      haha the only worms we like to use are the fake ones. Squirmy and San Juan worms are a must have in the fly box. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    I guess I am lucky in a way, as the waters I fish see very little in the form of anglers, albeit the trout numbers are low along the whole river(s). Still totally wild fishing, and sometimes it is like an expedition to reach some sections. Tight lines to you all, from across the big pond.

    Here’s the thing…when it comes to “thinking like a fish”, you have to understand what’s important to them. It’s not about what we think and the intentions we ascribe to certain actions. A feeding trout is going “that’s food, that’s not food, that’s not food, that’s food”. What you’re attempting to do with your presentation is to break past “that’s not food” and get a take. A number of things could cause “that’s not food”. A weird drift, the wrong fly, the curly/goofy/heavy tippet. And let me say this much…dude, there are times when it just won’t happen. I’ve been fly fishing for almost 30 years…since I was a little kid. To this day, I get the occasional moment when I realize “oh, this just isn’t gonna happen”. My best imitation on 7x with a 12’ leader isn’t going to do it. Where I have 95% of the bases covered, “that’s not food” extends to 97% at that particular moment and I’m not going to catch this fish today. I think that’s important to understand, too. There will be times when they’re cued into something that your best imitation won’t replicate. It’s not a reflection of your skill as an anger, it’s a reflection on the state of the art. There’s only so much you can do with feathers, fur, polyester and tinsel. The only thing you can do under those circumstances is throw a couple of Hail Marys. Maybe a sweet terrestrial pattern, an attractor that’s worked in the past…if you’re in a tailwater, toss on a couple of scuds or a maggot fly and let er rip…

    I don't have to worry about picky trout here in central Ohio, I'm usually after bluegill ,bass,etc.

    When the fish are picky start with trash flys if they not hitting trash flys hit them with flys that are not fishes during that season. Like here in winter tons of guys will go throw tiny midges and ill go fish right behind them and throw a foam hopper in winter idk why but if the regular season match the hatch and trash flys are not working throw something crazy .

    Snell a piece from of but section to your fly line and put a perfection loop. Never cut into your but section of your leader then

    You know what I always say: there’s no such thing as picky fish… just bad casting(;
