How GOOD was Dark Souls 1-3 PVP?

The Dark Souls games are built on visceral action and epic combat, so naturally the PvP of the games would be just as engaging. Dark Souls PvP between each of the games is so vastly different between the titles. Dark Souls 1 PvP is sort of a mess and full of exploitable mechanics like the backstab. Dark Souls 2 PvP is an interesting spin on the combat of the game with a plethora of different builds to choose from. Dark Souls 3 is a faster, more narrowed PvP that focuses on the roll and parrying. All of them have their strengths and weaknesses and it's difficult to say which is best. Hopefully Elden Ring brings new and an overhauled PvP system when we likely see it at E3.

I still find a lot of people in DS2. Especially on weekends.

You summarized it pretty good, I still think ds1 is the most fun despite (or cause of) its flaws, ds2 would have been cool without soul memory and with a red eye orb and ds3 is fun for a while, but like you said, the rolling around all the time gets old very quick, it feels slippery when you engage with other players

Unless your chase the bro who can run around read a roll and get a free backstab. Once you learn to punish rolls and weapon swap a whole bunch of fun can be found that you can’t experience otherwise.

@@DayMe1n yeah with more skill comes fun, but what I wrote described my experience with the games and I don't think I will reach this level in ds3, I'm happy I got pretty good in ds1 and now I'm waiting for elden ring :)

So I got into dark souls late and started with 3 a few years ago, then a year later beat 2 and now I'm going though 1. The servers for 3 on Xbox always seemed dead to me no matter what time I played, it usually took me awhile to find games but whenever I played 2 I instantly found games and invasions were more frequent. Haven't played 1 enough to have an opinion but to me on xbox servers 2 always seemed to have more players. Also I played 3 with all the DLC, Scholar of the First Sin, and DS Remastered.

Really? I was on Xbox as well and it was the opposite for me

      @daltonburroughs3811 Před 3 lety +2

@@Ziostorm not sure why but that was my experience. I have 120+ hours in both games so not a ton but not a tiny amount either. I had slightly more success for summons in 3 for boss fights but for PvP 2 found me games in the arenas instantly every time. The longest I waited was maybe 15 minutes and that was only 1 time. But in 3 I would usually have to wait 10-30 to find a game. I didn't do a lot of PvP in 3 because of that. I did have different internet providers for each game so maybe it was just terrible when I played 3.

    My rankings :
    5.demon's souls :
It is unbalanced. The magic builds are too op and there are lots of broken hit boxes ,the areas weren't really good
    4.bloodborne :
I don't really have anything to say
    It just wasn't fun
To be fair sometimes there were some really nice moments
    3.dark souls 3 :
It had a lot of weapons but the magic builds are quite underused and there are lots of cheaters
    2.dark souls 1 :
It had lots of weapons but it had some broken hitboxes
    1.dark souls 2 :
Great maps, somehow balanced magic builds, lots of weapons
( this is just my opinion)

I first tried pvp in dark souls 2, and it was fun. But I won't miss being summoned on the bridge and them having a barrier of lingering flames lol

I got into dark souls this year(I know very late) and bought remastered, it was pretty hard to get matches. I got most pvp and summons right before the ornstein and smough fight, other than that I barely could play online. I hope dks3 will be diffrent.

bloodborne pvp is still decently populated. more so than the demons souls remake. could be subjective luck though. bloodborne pvp, when it clicks, is by far the best. there are many things that need to happen though as it can be horrible if they dont. gunspam, poor connections and extremely strong builds in early game all contribute to people hating the pvp in bloodborne. put these issues aside, and god damn, it is so aggressive and fluid. people have tons of variety in their builds, the animations are slick and the rhythm of the duel is unmatched in any of the other souls games.
dark souls 3 has great invasions, playing on the banned servers with cinders, the convergence and all the hacker mini bosses is fucking awesome. duelling in vanilla dark souls 3 is all about spacing and prediction. but when you throw all the crazy spells from the mods in, it’s a whole other beast.
i haven’t had as much time in dark souls 2 and 1 pvp. ds2 seems extremely technical which i found intimidating at first, especially with how arrogant some of the really good players are, but after awhile it was starting to click. i haven’t checked in the last year but i found a ton of duels in that game, not so many invasions. and it was ps4, pc was dead.
dark souls 1 is kinda like bloodborne to me, when it works, it’s at the top of its class. unfortunately so many fights start out with your opponent immediately trying to run at you and quickly turn behind you to get the back stab. so you hold up your shield and back up and it devolves into this ridiculous back and forth. when your opponent genuinely enjoys the duel, it is awesome. both of you can feed off each other.
another thing is i don’t mind healing. as i usually invade, that’s normal, but i mean in duels as well. if you don’t heal in bloodborne, every fight would be over in ten seconds. i kind of bring that philosophy over to the souls games. it just lengthens a duel and makes it even more fun most of the time. still though, unless i’m invading or being invaded, i’ll wait for the other guy to heal first.
conclusion: all the games are great.

year late but idc. dark souls 1 is the best for tryhard PvP. but i completely understand that for a new player who doesn't want to tryhard its not a fun environment. however for tryharding all the mechanics really have deep skill expression and a very nice skill ceiling to climb. theres always something u can do in every situation and no fight is the same. even if you are fishing for the backstabs. theres a lot to the backstab game that people dont want to learn but its sick

Yeah, i believe that once you accept backstabs are broken, (and everyone can use it) then you discover that the pvp evolves around backstabs!
