  • Giorno's Theme (Il Vento D'Oro) from "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" has a burning sax solo in the fun key of G#m for alto saxophone. The saxophonist is Masato Honma, the same sax player as on the Mario Kart theme. This solo sounds like a cross between David Sanborn and Eric Marienthal if you want to dig into some other inspiration.

Sax on steroids, that's what we all secretly need from time to time. The saxophonist is Masato Honma (not to be confused with also Japanse saxophone great Masato Honda). Honma did also the famous Mario Kart OST (and the Mario Kart lick). Also, let me know if you'd like me top make a tutorial on how to play some of these trick licks etc.
    -S.T. means: Split Tone
-The one with the false fingerings (as shown by the "+"s) is playing a regular B + octave key and add 3 RH and 1,2 LH). You'll need the right cavity to produce that sound as well.
Any other OST solos that you like? Anime, games, movies... can be sax but certainly other instruments as well!

Nice work Jorre, great transcription. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure the guy who played the Mario Kart Lick and did the soundtrack was Kazuki Katsuta and not Masato Honma, both great players though! Katsuta plays in another band called "DIMENSION" and you can hear him play that lick in practically every solo he does.

Thanks for that input. Do you have some external sources? I'd like to give the right credits, and the usually reliable Discogs website had Honma credited. It's kind of hard on this one, but I'm grateful for you pointing our that potential mistake.
On more than 200 transcriptions I did, this one (one of the more pop culture popular ones) has been one of the hardest

Split Tone. Spit the tone like you're Moses splitting the sea (tip: play a bit louder and aim the air slight more upwards into the mouthpiece. There is a sweet spot between normal sound and a dead sound where it cracks in the middle)
